Why is there so many foreigners, talking about Mongolia as if they know everything that is happening here? The thing is that we don’t talk in Russian language, we only use the cyrillic alphabet, because we were forced by the Soviet Union decades ago. It has been only 30 years since we have changed the government system and we have been trying to implement our national transcript as our main alphabet, as all the students must take the Mongolian language and transcript test to enroll in universities, and after year 2025, the mongolian transcript will be used as the primary alphabet and every news, media will be written in our alphabet. The actual Mongolia is using Russian Cyrillic alphabets, but they're protesting about Inner Mongolia, which part of Chinese territory. Back in Qing Dynasty, all of Mongolia was part of the Manchu dynasty. Russia in 19th century forced the Qing to cede half of Mongolia to them. During the Soviet Union times, Mongolians in outer Mongolia were using Cyrillic (Russian alphabets) up to until now. Inner Mongolia were allowed to use their native Mongolia Script. So actually, China preserved their culture, unlike Soviet Russia. Also, there are more Mongolians living inside of Inner Mongolia, China than the actual Mongolia itself.

@@UVGardener It's more like the Mongolians in Mongolia were forced for decades to use Russian by the Soviets to the point where it was impractical and difficult to hold onto their native language. It's like Native Americans... Even at this point where English isn't enforced (anymore) the languages like Ojibwe, for example, still exist, but aren't taught as a primary language for practical use because most children grow up learning English in the home, businesses use English, tourists use English, schools use English and Ojibwe is mostly just used for the sake of preservation and ceremony, which gets increasingly difficult as time goes on and children take less interest. The same thing is a problem in Latvia, which was also under Soviet rule and still does enough business with Russia that Latvian isn't as practical to use as Russian now days in spite of active programs to try to preserve and reinvigorate national Latvian usage. This is the kind of danger that the Mongolian language is in... But in my opinion, a language first needs to serve its primary purpose: communication. Respect cultural diversity, not forbid the usage in daily life, that's good enough.

So Cantonese is NOT the native dialect of HK. People in HK actually stole this dialect from Canton.

In Inner Mongolia (China), everything written in both Chinese and Mongol, such as in bus, subways, shopping malls, government buildings, and even our identity card. How can you say Chinese government is trying to destroy the Mongol? In China, no any good universities have Mongol teaching majors. Teaching some subjects in Chinese in primary school and middle school will only help them to be more involved in Chinese education system, and get equal rights for higher education. People of Mongolia ethnic living in Inner Mongolia (China) enjoy so many benefits. For example, one child policy never applied to them, they can have more than one kid. They can have extra 10 points for final university exam. They can be promoted much faster than normal Han people in government, just because there is a certain proportion of government positions need to be fulfilled by people who are Mongolia ethnic. Please don't use Inner Mongolia as a tool for your political purpose.

First, China tolerated Mongolian language, just like it tolerated Uyghur language in the past, was because CCP didn’t feel strong enough to suppress these ethical minorities. These minorities are far less enthusiastic toward the communism ideology and far less submissive as Han Chinese, for the same reason CCP didn’t impose one child policy on them, because they know that would cause mass unrest. Now with Xi in the power, CCP has taken a much more aggressive position both outside China and inside China. Whatever economy reason cannot justify violations of basic human right to preserve one’s native language, not to mention that CCP is violating Chinese constitution as well.

We have a choice between what language to teach our children, the only reason you think English is imposed is because English is more versatile a language in India than even Hindi. The only way a state can have absolute Native Language without English influences is to be a separate nation, I hope you know the consequences of that.

To who doesn’t know the background: from 2017 Minister of Education of China published unified textbooks for Mandarin, History and Politics and to replace old versions in primary and middle schools. The last old versions were from 2001 while dozens of publishers had their “products” to compete and sell to schools.

oh please! My parents migrated from China to Panama in the 1980´s (Central America, official language is Spanish), my parents´ mother tongue is type of Hakka dialect, so I learned Hakka from them. They rented HK dramas video tapes for entertainment, so I leaned Cantonese. My whole school years were in Spanish and English. Later I went back to China to learn Mandarin. What I´m trying to say that I still know my Hakka origins even if my whole school life was taught in a official language that is not my parents´ dialect. I learned about our minority culture from them, so they are not lost. And I know knowing Hakka dialect is a plus, is good to know, but good luck if you don´t the other more useful official languages. In the case of the Mongolian language, they can organize Mongolian language school, or something similar I don´t know... But don´t expect the official education system to tailor a specific regional school system, is not practical nor efficient. Imagine how many their will be in a country of so many minorities. That will be a mess.

One of the few reasonable comments here. It's this weird romanticization of "cultural resistance" against structural change in society, especially when it's happening in China (= bad) - even if this change makes completely sense and by and large society will benefit from it, especially the younger generation. I live in Germany, and in all educational institutions "Hochdeutsch" is taught (the standard German language), and not regional dialects. Same applies for "Sütterlin", an old-fashioned German script that had been in use until the end of WW2, but imagine writing a job application in Sütterlin today - the German viewers will agree how laughable this would be. People can learn this in extra-curricular courses if they like to, but Latin script is the standard script in Germany for an obvious reason I'm not going to explain. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if also this "cultural resistance movement" is again funded by the NED, and propagated by Western media for the usual reason (China = bad).

Mongolian is one of the languages used on the Chinese legal tender. Also, ALL government documents, seals and personal IDs in Inner Mongolia are bilingual. In fact, CCP has been in support of preserving the functionally dead Mongolian writing system since day one, when the independent Mongolia abandoned it decades ago. In fact, the Chinese government has helped many minority groups in China who didn’t have a writing system for their native tongue to develop one so these minority groups can better preserve their heritage. Try report impartially for once, DW.
