37:00 bringing that up reminds me of how I use to play Teutons. my 2nd to main under Brits. Distract with Paladins, sneak around Teutonic Knights inside rams to the other side. With how Paladins are cavs and super tanky you end up with 2 death balls on opposite sides of you. Think about it, The things that counter pals are slower than they are and need to be highly massed. Plus they have conversion resistance being Teuton You have to use melee units it break the rams, then the Teutonic Knights get released to protect the rams. The Paladins are still reeking havoc on the other side. Never let a Teuton boom. Ever Goths have their god tier melee spam. Teutons have god tier melee tanks. Who else would love to see a match between these two melee titans?

Great game, but Mangudai are just frustrating to watch some times. Like I can accept them doing stupid damage, being insanely fast, and almost no shot delay. But 19 units being able to stack on a 2 tile gap is just unfair.

You must play Persians, as how Persians would go to war, you must have mix cavalry and every other good unit that they produce. Persians are not Paladin Civ. Play them as they were and you would win more games.

OP's comment seems to imply that most players are playing in a flawed manner that exposes them to risk from laming, and I'm wondering what alternative strategies they've discovered to mitigate that risk while still bringing in the boars at an optimal time. Saying I'm confused was another way of saying "I dont think this makes any sense". Its also pretty confrontational to say that most people are doing something wrong and exposing themselves to risk when the majority of games dont even feature any laming

Why does no one drop walls/palisades/houses/etc to block off passages mangudai keep slipping through? Surely it'd be worth the investment to run some villagers out to block off passages to force them to be funneled by castles and other defenses

It is just hard to pay attention to everything. There is just a limited amount of things that even pro players can focus on. In some cases it would definitely be worth it to focus on it, but it's also hard to recognize that at the right time.

yellow played well overall considering the early lame but why no skirms or crossbow? persians trashbow could make a huge difference or just full skirms. It would help to push mangadaï off trebs in early imp with cav in front to stop mongol lightcav. Persian should even skip paladins and make more cav + skirms + trebs. Persian vs mongols you have to win early as persians so I don’t see the pal upgrade as a great move.

The truth is Persians have a really hard time against Mongols. Skirms as Persians isn't a great move because they lack bracer, though it still might have been worth it to make a few. Light cav and trashbows are horrible ageist Mangudi. While the best thing would have been to win early, I think paladin was his best choice, considering the bonus damage against achers it has. The best way for Persians to win this matchup is a tc drop

@@ethanpappas2502 paladin gets kited around by mang... and mang can snipe trebs. I don’t see a positive outcome for pals unless you can mass them and dive eco/castles, which isnt easy in 1v1. Thats true they lack bracer but a mass of skirm + cavs in front BEFORE hussards are researched by mongols might work. Also yellow had a edge in castle age and seemed hesitant. When the mongol base was closed with 3 castle and he researched pals with no trebs or range, it was pretty much over regardless of his macro

@@gabbeat Yeah when mongols get 3 castles and elite mangudi, its the equivilent of goths fighting bystantines: Impossible. Again, yellow really didn't have a good choice in late game, but making persian skirms is never going to work, especially because of Red's hussars. Your own hussars get beaten by the mongol ones as do your skirms, and your halbs get chewed up and spit out by mangudi. The paldin is still pretty bad ageist mangudi, but at least you can tank some hits and do some damadge. Paldin was a bad move, but all of his other moves were worse

@@ethanpappas2502 i agree with the hussard statement but thats why you need to do early imp pressure and treb fown castles. The skirms are useful before hussards are available. The mongol player will be busy upgrading mang and wont be able to afford hussards straight away. U can easily face a bunch of mang with skirms and take a few castles down before the mongol player has time to spam upgraded hussards

@@gabbeat eh, I don't know. Again missing bracer is such a hindrance to your skirmishers. The Mongol player doesn't even need hussars, 10 light cav with chain barding destroy your whole army and snipe trebs. None of the upgrades are that expensive, so a mongol player can definitely have light cav on the field early on if they expect skirms. Persians fall off agiest mongols in imp, but yellow did the best move. He tried to kill with early imp caviler before red had elite mangudi, he did well, but it wasn't enouth. There wasn't much more he could do.

32:05 I think this was the big difference between Red and Yellow's play. Pro players are so good at sealing off their bases in the early game, but I often see them slip in the late game; once it hit late, Yellow's base was wide open, while Red was still willing to make building walls. I agree late game Mongol is amazing, but Hussar raids are too brutal to do nothing against, and it would have happened the same way with any civ.
