Watched this episode again as it was another great episode that needed to be enjoyed once more. I remember owning this particular laptop w/ the i7 740qm cpu, 8gb ram, GTX460m and 1TB hard drive. It served me well for many years. It’s amazing how long Intel stuck with their 4-core / 8-thread design …..great thing AMD changed this!

The RGB fan in me was frustrated that he painted over the Alienware heads eyes, so that the RGB didn't flow through. but meh its still rocked out! I have and restored a Alienware M17R4 currently it has a Quadro gpu cause I could not find a reasonably priced original 980 gtx to put back in it, the one I have was broken in half who ever owned it dropped it out a window or something I was told. so much damage took for ever to restore it. Love watching Cat because sometimes I learn something. Thanks for the videos Cat!

I had that same laptop with the gtx 460m graphics card and the card was very unstable since new. After years of suffering and trying everything i randomly underclocked the gpu and everything was great for a couple of years untill the mobo died. Great video!

It's an insane work. Respect. The golden parts with black dots look like they are made of gold metal. Also the black parts with golden dots look like made of marble. All in all this laptop has a very unique overall effect. Gongrats to this.

Good restoration - that looked like a lot of hard work and I'm glad that it ended up in your hands, rather than anyone else. Most people would have probably stripped it down, as a donor laptop, for parts only. Also, thanks to your videos and what I know, I've bought a HP ZBook 17 to upgrade and get fully working :).

20:59 it just confirm my teories that older motherboards, (i considered gen 1 intel is old enough)whenever faces to bios things like this, i can only use flashdrive 2gb or below it. Otherwise something will not work as it should be

I recently found this out while trying to update the BIOS on an older laptop and I didn't have any old USB Stick, but ehi! If you are in this situation, just use whatever Stick you have, delete ALL the partitions of that drive and make a really small FAT one, it worked fine for me, after this process! Hope this helps someone, nice video BTW!

I have the same laptop I almost upgraded everything in it can handle even unofficial components like gpu I upgrad it from gtx 260m to gtx 970M and it's works very nice...and the cpu from i7 720qm to i7 x920 2.00Ghz...this laptop is a masterpiece I never regret buying it that day before 8 years I think? But compared to laptops nowadays in terms of price and lifetime...Alienware m15x was a good deal 👍 Nice video BTW :)

Great job. The M15x is a temperamental laptop, I'd love to see how you repaired the motherboard issue. I should have a spare SSD caddy if you really need one. I also have a 920XM, if you want to max it out. A 770M, 780M or even 970M would have been a good choice and they only need a modded driver.
