Actually, having dealt with my fair share of goannas over the years, I believe that you are correct. IMHO the best chance she had was to pursue and chase the lizard on that initial success and then quickly move the family elsewhere. Goannas are unbelievably persistent. Giving up is not in their DNA. We have learned from others who live in the bush, to catch them and relocate them a very long way away. Otherwise, they will just keep on returning. The only real option for the possum was to grab the kids and move away a.s.a.p.

Imagine how people were 5,000 years ago without God’s True Book. How would they have known how they were supposed to live? How would they have known how they were supposed to be in order to please their Creator? So God gave the law of Moses back then. This law was for the people to know how to be. They saw what God expected out of them. God had high expectations from the Israelites. Why shouldn't He? Should He drop His expectations for love and grace? If He drops His expectations to accommodate what man wants, then He compromised His perfection for man’s imperfection. Does a Perfect God compromise His perfection? So God has expectations once He tells His creation how He wants things. His love and grace gives His creation time to change. He is willing to help them change if they ask Him. Then His creation, while repenting or changing to do His will, see His Beauty. This is a relationship formed now with the Creator. If He is the Most Beautiful Being, which He is, how can His creation not want to obey Him? How can His creation not want to please Him? The reason why is because of foolishness. Man loves his own foolishness rather than God’s wisdom, Jn 3:19. Man loves his sin. If anyone loves himself, he will stay in sin. So man who stays in sin rejects his perfect Creator or Father, and exchanges it for his own foolishness. So now fast forward to today where we have God’s True Book. We officially know what God wants. God gave His creation a big help, the Word, to show us how He wants us to live. If we follow His perfect teachings, we all live with perfect peace, love, joy and unity. This is His perfect design for His children's lives. When we go against His perfect design for what we want, sin, we throw away that perfect plan. We throw away that perfect peace, love, joy and unity. Giving up these things is foolish. So sinning against God proves to be the worst plan for us! God wanted to help mankind. God wanted to save man from his foolishness. He wanted to help us the best way possible because He is Good. The best and only way to do it, as God saw fit, was to give mankind His Son. Why? The Son is the Word, Jn 1:1. The Word always obeys the Father's will. The Father's will is spoken through His Word. The Word proceeds forth from the Father's will and mind. So the Word that God speaks is the pure sequel to what was inside the Father's mind and heart. Jesus is that perfection manifest. He is the physical embodiment of God's will and thought. God's will and thought is expressed through His Word. Jesus, the human part, is the perfect, physical expression of God. Jesus, the human part that walked this earth, came to teach us the perfect will of God. How? He did this by example. This is why Jesus walked this earth perfectly without sinning. So Jesus taught us perfectly. He even was willing to die not only death, but the death He did not deserve since He never sinned against God the Father. He chose to give His life. That's why Jesus says no man forces Him to lay down His life, He chose to lay it down, Jn 10:18. God wanted to save mankind. Jesus wants what the Father wants. The Word always obeys the will. He shed even His perfect, pure blood for us. His blood is the fulfillment of perfect obedience to the Father. Why? Because the Son asked 3 times in the Garden, "Take my cup not by my will but by yours." The Father said the Son still had to shed His blood on the cross. The Son obeyed the Father's will over His own. So the blood was shed for that purpose. Nobody else had that kind of blood. Nobody else pleased the Father perfectly like the Son. So now instead of the law of Moses showing us the way to live rightly in God's eyes, we have the Son. This is the New Covenant. In Jesus and His blood, we now obey Him instead of the Mosaic law as part of this new agreement between man and God. So as man wants to live rightly to please His Creator, man now must turn to the Word of the Creator. So obeying the perfect teachings of Jesus brings us to how God wants us to live. The Son conquered the grave. The grave is the end of all who sin. The grave is the payment for sin. Satan founded the grave. How? Because Satan started death by being the first to sin against Almighty God. Jesus destroyed Satan's creation and fulfills the very first prophecy spoken of the Savior in Genesis 3:15. That's why Jesus came to "...destroy the works of the devil," 1 Jn 3:8. Satan came to ruin God's Creation with sin. Jesus came to ruin Satan's creation, death, with perfect obedience, which His blood shed proves. That's why in His blood, there is life. So the Gospel is God's reconciliation with man. How? Only through the Son. If you disobey the Son, you disobey the Father. Jesus says, “He who has seen me has seen the Father,” Jn 14:9. Repent and accept Jesus as Your Lord NOW!!! Then start to read the Gospels and obey His commands. Follow Jesus only, no other man, no religion. Only Jesus. Brushtail possums normally only carry one offspring, and they rarely share dens with other brushtails. So the statement about the monitor devouring multiple young is incorrect. Reference: Dr Anne Kerle's book "Possums". The confusion arises because Australian brushtail "Possums" (no "O") are mistaken for the Virginia Opossum (with an "O") which does carry multiple offspring. When Joseph Banks first saw the Australian animal in 1770 he thought they reminded him of the American Opossum and the name unfortunately stuck. But they are totally different animals. The Australian phalangerid is a diprotodont (like koalas) and mostly a herbivore, whereas the Virginia Opossum is a polyprotodont and a carnivore. This is the reason the brushtail possum mother's bite is ineffective because brushtail teeth are more designed for eating leaves, and they aren't carnivores' teeth with a sharp cutting edge.

There are things about this video that don't make sense. I should mention that I've been observing brushtail possums in nestboxes for about 12 years so I actually have some knowledge of this subject. First of all, the narrator mentions baby possums (plural) several times. But brushtails almost always have only a single baby at a time. Twins are possible but very rare. It's very very unlikely there was more than one baby present. Simply the fact that the narrator refers so casually to "baby possums", as if this were normal and not highly unusual, indicates that he has little knowledge of the subject and makes me highly suspicious that he's simply making assumptions about what is in the nest. Secondly, a baby possum that's young enough to be helpless will still be in its mother's pouch. Very young possums do occasionally venture out of the pouch on hot days when the mother is in the nest, but they don't stray very far and can get back inside very quickly if there's trouble. By the time a baby possum is too big to fit in the pouch easily it will no longer be helpless. If small it will cling tightly to its mother's back and if larger it will be quite capable of acting independently. In this video, when the mother possum first leaves the hollow, her pouch looks quite flat, so if there's a baby inside it's a very tiny one, and there was no youngster clinging to her back either. So the implication is that the baby is too large for back-riding and is hiding in the hollow. Now I admit I haven't actually witnessed a monitor lizard attacking a mother and baby brushtail (although I do have footage of a python attacking a mother and baby ringtail), but I can't imagine a baby that was too big to back-ride just cowering helplessly in a hollow. They are alert and feisty and they can run very fast if need be. I would expect the youngster would be taking cues from its mother and would have vacated the hollow when she did - or at the very least be looking out of the hollow and keeping the monitor under close observation. The fact that the baby cannot be seen at any point makes me suspicious that this may have been set up in some way and there is not actually any baby present. In addition, the monitor was said to have devoured the "baby possums" [sic] in "less than a minute". A baby small enough to be consumed so quickly by this relatively small lizard would still be in the pouch. Are we to assume that the monitor managed to extract a small baby from the pouch of its struggling and fighting mother? It doesn't seem so likely to me. I get that these things are often have to be staged to at least some extent, and I'm thinking that perhaps some sort of bait might have introduced into the tree hollow to attract the monitor.

Lace monitors are anything but small, and they can swallow fairly large objects(I’ve seen a monitor lizard swallow a fish 1/3 it’s size whole) and I don’t think the mother will be bringing her offspring into a fight with a giant venomous lizard that could rip it to shreds. Also the baby probably didn’t even see the lizard until it was already in the nest and if it did grab it out the pouch then the possum would’t be able to actually do anything about it as monitor lizards are armoured so it’s would be like attacking a rhino with a plastic spoon and she was backed into a corner with no were to go so the fact it grabbed the baby probably saved her life as it was probably trying to eat her. Also monitor lizards have very good sense of smell so it probably smelt the possums from a good distance away. Also the do you think she would stay around and fight if she didn’t have a baby with her, it’s a tiny little possum vs a giant venomous lizard that can rip her apart in a few seconds, I don’t think she would hang around if there wasn’t a baby in that nest.
@PossumTV
@PossumTV 6 жыл бұрын
It's probably futile to get into an Internet debate on what might have happened inside a hollow where we can't see; it comes down to one person's speculation against another's and there's no way to prove anything. I personally think that if a baby possum was present it must have been of back-riding size (or it would have been in the mother's pouch when she first left the hollow) and it didn't look to me that it would have either been cornered or taken by surprise when then monitor attacked and we should have seen it leave the hollow. Baby possums of back-riding age are alert and can move very fast. But this aside, consider that there is *nothing at all visible* in the video to indicate that a baby possum was ever present. The fact that the narrator repeatedly refers to babies (plural) - which is almost certainly wrong - implies that the film makers didn't actually witness the presence of a baby either. Wildlife documentaries are frequently falsified to some extent and if you think about it, this makes sense; there are deadlines to be met and animals don't perform on cue. You can't be paying for a camera crew to wait around for months just for the sake of a few minutes of film that will probably bring in less revenue than footage of some idiot getting kicked in the groin. In this case, the attack of a monitor lizard on a brushtail is a relatively rare event. Very few brushtail babies die while under the protection of their mothers and the greatest mortality occurs when they become independent and disperse to other areas. The fact that brushtails have only one baby at a time is evidence of this - smaller and more vulnerable ringtails have two or three and American opossums have more like ten or so. Even dogs and cats have a litter of up to half a dozen. So it seems unlikely that a film crew would just happen to be there - with ladders or whatever positioned to be able to film from a good angle - at exactly the moment an attack occurred. You could quite easily follow a possum continuously for years and never see anything like this happen. I myself have filmed somewhere around 50 possums over a period of 12 years, and on only occasion did I capture an attack (by a carpet python on ringtails) on film - and that was recorded automatically by a motion detecting camera when I wasn't present.
@jamesathersmith2191
@jamesathersmith2191 6 жыл бұрын
Possum TV ok I’m just saying that even if the baby is alert and fast, the entire nest is taken up by the mother and the lizard, it literally would’t have anyware to go and since the lizard is whole lot stronger then it so it would’t stand a chance in that cramped den. Also if your in a suburban area, then you will probably never see a lace monitor and if it can’t fit in the nest then it won’t bother attacking, so your chances of ever seeing one are low anyway. Also do you think she would actually stay and fight if she didn’t have a baby in that den and that she would’t eat and bait they left in there, she is an omnivore so I doubt she would pass up a little bit of meat sitting in her den so by the time the lizard got there the only thing there would be her and unless she had a death wish she would be running, because she ain’t winning a fight with a lace monitor.

Dawid It's a joke at the expense of nature lovers who forget that it can be cruel and brutal. Of course it can also be beautiful and loving at times. In a way, even the act of the lizard eating the babies can be viewed as "beautiful" in how primal and horrific nature often is.

Zhaksylyk Toktaukhan Not sad because now the spirit from that possum vessel is released. It was only there to learn what it needed to learn, once learned, it was released from the vessel it first obtained. Sure it looks awful, but death is the only way we let go of the vessel we were given. Hopefully, their next vessel is the human form where it can achieve enlightenment....

How did people manage to turn EVEN THIS VIDEO into a political debate? It's a video about one animal eating another but the comments section is full of comments on gun control, veganism, and atheism; I didn't even know this was possible. *What part of this video makes a person want to argue?* *How does it have this effect on people?* Clearly the video is haunted, and it was probably the dead possum.

but you cant deny that if the possum had a gun she would have protected her family. if the monitor lizard was vegan this whole encounter would have never existed, therefore there is no god. it breeds atheism

@@moesyzslak2939 Nothing wrong with people debating, it, in no way, interferes with anyone's ability to watch the video. Besides, I'd rather people fight things out with words then weapons.
