As a kid in Australia I remember sitting watching an ant fight in the garden between groups of red and black ants. Next day I went to look again, and there was a big neat pyramid of dead black ants, and red ants dragging more dead black ones from holes in the ground and adding them to the pile. It seemed fascinatingly brutal - as I’d slept in my bed just metres away, this whole bleak and terrible night of tiny but merciless warfare and carnage had played out, and next day they were silently tidying up

I had two small black ant colonies around my house. One lived within the cracks of the driveway, the other near the side of the house. They lived in relative peace with one another for over 10 years until one night I came outside and discovered a full blown war involving tens of thousands of ants was taking place. It was near impossible to see what was going one or who was winning. The battle consisted of two giant mounds fighting with smaller amounts fighting around the perimeters. Due to neither side having a physical advantage the strategy was 2v1 to eliminate a fighter. 1v1 fights were stalemates until another came along, checked to see which one was on their side and then the kill would happen. It was a war of numbers. Once a fighter was dead or disabled they would let the body go and the process would continue on throughout the night. I came out early the next morning eager to check on the progress of the war and a clear winner had been decided. The driveway ants came out victorious. They had now broken into two groups. One group was on body recovery while the other group was deemed the invasion force, driving into the nest of the defeated side house colony to kill off any straggles, clear out their stores and eliminate their queen. No quarter was taken, it was pure annihilation. This was about 4 years ago now and the driveway ants are still thriving to this day. Their story of struggle, famine, war and perseverance unknown to all but them. RIP to the side house colony, your energy lives on through the victors.

Michael Mathews If you mean humans were never cannibals than your wrong, much of Africa, and South America, as recently as the last few decades, have practiced some form of human consumption. If you mean humans have never tried to wipe out another group of people, then I point out the Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide. If you mean humans never fought over resources, then I point you to nearly every conflict in world history. If you mean people never fought over different monarchs or rules like the ants, then I point you to Europe for the period between 900-1940CE. Most of human history is filled with examples of barbarism in the extreme, and it is only in the most recent century or so that much of the world is now civilized or making strides towards civilization. A conscious doesn’t exactly separate us from the ants behaviorally for most of history, it just makes us realize that it was immoral to treat others like that.

I used to think that nature was cruel. I used to think that everything happened for a reason. I used to think that maybe bad things happened because you, somehow, deserved them... That a superior force had an unknowable way of judging all of us... Call it God, nature, the universe... Those forces kept life in balance in ways that you didn't have the right to know... But the reality is that sometimes, for absolutely no reason, bad things simply happen. Bad things happen to good people. Bad things happen to anyone... The best one can do is prepare for the drought, for the killing of all your kind, for the longest journey that is death, for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time... Because it may happen whether you think you deserve it or not, and I think that's scarier than the judgement of any superior force...

Not saying much. You could watch your neighbor's dog relieve itself on your own lawn and that'd be better than the entirety of season 8.

the writing has been on the wall since the start of season 5. D&D are adept at adapting already existing media, not creating new media. seasons 1 - 4 were excellent, but i remember watching season 5 and getting more and more annoyed because they started deviating from the books before ran out of material, there is stuff that should have made it to the show, but didn't, because D&D are stupid.

@@Murtagh653 yeah, they didn't include Stoneheart, moquorro, jon conninton, Jeyne poole, victarion, killed of Selmy in an alleyway yet there are alot of people still defending the writing 😂
