actually it matters a lot, especially with intense games, or when manufacturers push a high refresh rate on a panel that can't handle it causing piss poor response times. A monitor with bad response times looks like a smeary mess, you should definitely look at pixel response times, and not what the manufacturer says because what they say is always bs.

***** panels like mine have under 1ms response which put them at CRT level. IPS has better color gamut than CRT too. CRT lovers have actually bought these as their first non-CRT display. Also IPS is better and they're getting closer to 1ms. Panels like the Acer Predator X34 is 4ms, IPS, gsync, 1440 Ultra Wide, 100hz and Asus amazing PG279Q with 1440p, 165hz, Gsync, IPS, 4ms. It won't belong before we have IPS 1ms, they've come a long way quickly. There really isn't a reason to use a CRT anymore.

I have a 1 ms response time monitor. Recently I checked my options and noticed that the response time is set to "faster" ("standard" and "fastest" are available to be chosen), I set it to "fastest" and I started seeing previous frames in inverted colors (black -> white, white -> black and so on). Contrast moving objects started to leave a trail with inverted colors. That's weird.
@maaax11732 жыл бұрын
That's called overshoot, it happens when the brightness of a pixel going from a dark tone to a bright tone (and vice versa) exceeds the target value, leaving a bright/darker trail behind. Manufacturers want to claim their monitors have a 1ms response time, so they add a very agressive overdrive mode that achieves quick response times at the cost of overshoot. Most of the time, you are better off with choosing medium or low overdrive, those settings will improve response time compared to no overdrive but keep overshoot in check

And a day later you posted the comment, lol
@HypeTrains5 жыл бұрын
The reason competitive gamers consider more than 2ms unplayable is because of input lag. The less time between an input and the action being displayed on screen, the more control you have. In an extreme example, I recall a documentary about Russia sending a space probe to mars. It was controlled from Earth, with a 5 *second* delay (there and back). The pilots had to undergo training to be able to control it properly, because of the input lag.

I'd be really interested to try one of the new 144 hz ips panels to see if the slightly higher response times are worth it for the much better picture quality, though. Also, calibrating a tn panel will only do so much since they literally cannot display as many colors as IPS panels.

lol monitor spec sheets are a joke, don't believe anything they say (besides like, the type of connections it offers, but even the power consumption is usually a lie) For example the most BASIC information on any monitor spec sheet will say 16.7 million colours. Bullshit. Liquid crystal displays don't even come CLOSE to displaying 16.7 million colours, not even half, and most monitors(TN I'm looking at you) not even a quarter of that. But the biggest lie on all those spec sheets is usually the contrast ratio. It'll say something like 1 000 000:1 or some bullshit like that. Goodluck, that's dynamic, meaning it adjusts contrast on the fly which means you might get darker darks, but it adjusts the contrast for EVERYTHING on screen, so when you get darker darks you'll get darker EVERYTHING. At best they are usually about 800:1 for a good monitor, about 300:1 for a crappy generic came-with-my-prebuilt one. In a bit of technological irony, our old "obsolete" CRT monitors and TVs did response times, colours, and contrasts order of magnitudes better than modern screens. They just were huge and used a lot of power and also burned out your eyeballs.

When I was looking for a new monitor I asked the guy at buy for the refresh rate and was told it was 1ms, the other thing I found is that people there will just tell you it's best when they have no clue. For instance I was told that a $199 monitor at Staple had a 144hz refresh rate and after a two second Google search I found it was as I figured 60hz. Just do your homework online and order from Amazon or some other online store.

I have a 5ms LG 60Hz display. I can confirm, that gaming on a 60hz display, is acceptable, but not preferable. I'm looking into upgrading. There even is a big difference between 60 and 75Hz, the biggest the Hz, the less difference. But yes, there is a HUGE difference between 60 and 144Hz. As long as it is under 10ms, you shouldn't see any ghosting, i am not sure though. I hate the fact that you had to wait 3 years to get a decent reply 😳

Yo I appreciate the reply LOL, I got a new monitor. 165hz with 0.5 ms response time and it’s honestly very good. 60hz is still playable but I just dislike it on PC. I feel like I concentrate on the refresh rate more than the game itself. I have a setup video on my channel btw, you don’t need to watch it but I have the monitor in there 😳🤘

Hey guys, I know I'm too late but Should I get a 4ms 165hz curved monitor or a 1ms 144hz normal monitor with pretty thick bezels?

How much of a difference is 4ms to 1ms? I have a Samsung Curved monitor 24" inches with 1080p, 60kHz and 4ms response time whereas my friend paid £110 more for everything the same but 44kHz and 1ms.

your focus should be 60% hz and 4-% response time. anything 5ms below and 75hz is going to be decent for competitive gaming, but you want 144hz, and 244hz is not needed but if you want to go that route, sure. rediculous saturation, 244hz, and 1ms response time would be the best monitor for competition as you can see people more clearly, and faster.

cant companies be sued for falsely advertising the wrong specs on a porduct?

Whats more important. G sync or 1 m/s? Apparently my monitor can't do both at the same time...

so basically a 4ms ips panel is the best "high end" bang for the buck. I just found some good deals for a 4k and a 2k monitor, So I just bought 5k retail worth of monitors for about 1k. not all that much has changed in the last 5 years except for prices and the features of the flagship models

Lol I have a dell s2330mx, which came bundled with my prebuilt. I am now using it with my built pc (Ryzen 1600 GTX 1050 ti 4 gb). It is 1080p 60hz 2 ms response time, which is pretty good for an oem, and it's energy star rated too.

Is 5ms good for gaming?

What's a good gaming monitor for 150 or lower? Something you are really happy with. Thanks.

Can you make a tech tips video on Clock Cycles / Why mixing ram frequencies results in throttling the greater ram to the speed of the lesser. Something along those lines, I think it'd interesting

So, this means 120hz screen with response time of around 20ms is worse than 60hz screen which suppose to be less than 17ms?

The extrem gamer monitor with the lowest reponse time is any CRT you can pick up for like 10$
@cestlavie52747 жыл бұрын
So let me conclude this, the lower response time the better right?

Yeah, bought 27" monitor recently. Turned out it have more delay than I found at manufacturer's website, and I'm too late to return it. It's really noticeable after my previous monitor with 2ms delay, so I guess I'll have to buy a new one. =/

I'm still using the Samsung SyncMaster T220 that I got about 8 years ago. It's has it's 2ms response time stamped right on the front. It's served me well even though it's 16:10.

+homeycdawg I still have a SyncMaster P2070 from 2009 which I am using now and it also has a 2ms response time and has worked quite well for games even though its only 1600x900 resolution max. I have pushed it to 1920x1080 using Nvidia control panel and it works, although its not the same as it actually being a full HD monitor and I do get a warning appear saying "not optimum mode" every so often. I still use it for games, but I did recently order a Dell Ultrasharp UP2516D 25 inch 2560 x 1440 IPS monitor for photo/video editing as it has 100% Adobe RGB, 100% sRGB, 100% REC 709, 98% DCI-P3 and I need the color accuracy over very fast response times. It supposedly has either a 5ms or 6ms response time, so may also be good for gaming, but that isn't why I bought it but I will try it for that when I get it and see how well it looks on some games. but still may use the Syncmaster for games.
