The origin of Gregorian chants is the Roman Catholics of early centuries who lived after the death and resurrection of Christ. Early Catholics turned prayers into gentle songs. Monks and nuns in Catholic monasteries living in prayer and a monastic life evolved the chants which remained with the Church right through to 1962 when the malevolent Vatican II Council removed them from use in the Church and forbade them. The chanting is named after Pope Gregory the Great who lived in 6th century doing great work for the Church.
