Monk had a lot of resentment towards this guy not just for the murder but throughout the episode he teased Monk about the murder of his wife Trudy. He even said her name to antagonize Monk but them claimed he was speaking about another Trudy smh.
@archsteel75 жыл бұрын
There was also the fact that they had history, where his wife investigated him once and wrote a piece on him for her news station and in retaliation he filed a lawsuit he couldn't possibly win. Then he just dragged it out for months and months, until the legal fees were so steep they had to give up their house. I'm not sure if that was *exactly* it, but I know it was something like that.

@@archsteel7 You right. I remember the episode briefly but I knew there was some underlying tension. I remember another episode where the whale told Adrien he knew who killed Trudy but refused to divulge the murderers name because Adrien foiled his scheme to assissinate a politician. **Spoiler alert** In the last episode it was discovered that a gift Trudy left Monk detailed who might've killed her but Adrien never opened the gift for years because he mourned her. Dale the Whale talked about Trudy. He never pretended there was another Trudy he was talking about. He did talk about his lawsuit against Trudy's paper/magazine and how it cost Monk and Trudy their home and lasted for a year. Monk lamented how Dale stole a year of Trudy's short life. Dale repeatedly said "bread and butter" to antagonize Monk, which were the last words Trudy said to him, which meant while they might be separated for a little while, they'll be together again.
@Adamguy20034 жыл бұрын
@@archsteel7 What happened was, Dale really doesn't like being featured in any media outlet, and used his money and influence to try and keep things that way. Trudy ignored this, and wrote an insulting article about him in which she called him "The Genghis Khan of world finance." Dale sued both her personally, and the paper that published her. He knew he couldn't win the case, but out of spite he kept the lawsuit going long enough that Trudy and Adrian had to sell everything they owned in order to pay their legal bills, including a starter- house they owned. Then, to spite them even further, Dale promptly purchased the house and used it to store his porn collection.

The craziest thing about the monk show that I only see now as an adult is that a real detective would never reveal their findings to the suspect until after questioning etc. As a kid however I just saw it the same as any other investigation show. It was as real to me as it could be because I hadn’t experienced reality yet. I love true crime and watching interrogations and that’s probably why this clip was recommended to me. But this show is truly up there with Murder She Wrote. But the niche works.

Monk is never really about the detective or police work. It is mainly a comedy with mysteries as a side-dish. In a few seasons, I remember almost every case is about covering up an affair or a theft, because the writers could not bother with coming up with more creative criminal intents. Even Trudy death is about another affair. But the writing remained strong for the full 8 seasons and never let us felt bored. Colombo, is about the detective and his catch. But once I grew up and had more critical eyes, the way the criminals is caught just screamed "acquited by jury".
@rhettorical2 жыл бұрын
It's just a thing with detective stories, it makes things more dramatic and entertaining. Sometimes it happens IRL but if detective stories were more realistic, they wouldn't be nearly as fun. Sherlock Holmes wouldn't be nearly as memorable if it happened like it does in real life. Reveal the timeline at the arrest and roll credits. Though there was that episode that starts with the revelation of the crime, then is immediately interrupted by the murderer's lawyer stepping in. Great episode that sort of addresses that concession that all detective stories make.

Dale the whale used to freak me out so bad when i was 8 years old...its been many years and he still freaks me out😂

A shame the show didn't bring back the original actor of Dale the Whale to play him again. He fit the character perfectly. Tim Curry did a solid job, but was a bit too creepy in it. Ray Porter wasn't bad either I suppose, but again, he just didn't fit the character like Adam Arkin did.
