Monkey Business - David Lovrien

This challenging circus march is a rollicking romp from start to finish, attempting to capture the excitement of a child's first trip to the circus: the thrill, the laughter, the joy. You’ll hear lots of comical percussion (whistle, slapstick, cowbell, etc.), in-your-face brass and whirling woodwind runs, all competing for your attention like a three-ring circus. Although it generally follows the standard march form, it takes every opportunity to “color outside the lines” and add whimsical elements such as altered scales and unexpected key modulations.
Monkey Business was written in 1999 for the Dallas Wind Symphony and premiered on March 28, 2000 at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.
