The funny thing about this is in the 1980’s on the west side of the valley, my friends and I found a monkey farm out in the middle of the dessert. Looked for it a few years later and couldn’t find it.

That must’ve been kinda eerie. Was it open, or abandoned?
@spartallica91284 жыл бұрын
Mad Hatter it was really freaky because it was late at night and it was a house structure with a thick metal door. My friend banged on the door and monkeys went crazy and started banging back. We ran to my car and got out of there. I think it was probably 1982.

My dad tells stories about him and his friends riding their 3 wheelers down into the wash back on the day. He said that they didn't like to stop when they were in the canyons because the 2 stroke engines echoing through the ca yon made the monkeys go ballistic. So all they would hear is a bunch of lonkeys screaming like they want to kill something.

Talley Defense used to have to call the "monkey farm" anytime we did loud testing. The shocks of rocket motors firing would upset the animals so the keepers would upset them so the ignored the testing. Our Safety Department often claimed that the people in charge of the facility had lots of lawyers and threatened to move Talley. This may have no bearing on the current situation; Talley doesn't exist and Nammo Defense has strong support by the community and Defense Department. There used to be a riding school and horse training facility we had to call for the same reason.

A lot of people don't appreciate that Talley's land extended to the canal; we had to be concerned about downrange debris when testing new products. So the armed guards may have been for the Defense Department work, not the monkeys. The area above the facility is controlled air space and McDonnell pilots were warned to not cross our fence line. We used to make the F-111 capsule escape rocket motor that the plume would extend upwards... you could probably down a helicopter with those exhaust plumes. There was a yelling match between a McDonnell VP and our president: Stay out of our airspace. This was Talley, many years ago.

I feel strongly that we NEED the monkeys for RESEARCH, like making vaccines for us, testing different medication, people does not understand that we need that everyone likes taking medication‘s to feel better…… Now I think that there is a way to get the animals to cooperate, like giving them treats to get in the chairs, instead of beating them, and dragging them … Just change the behavior reward them for getting in the chairs reward them for taking the medication and doing the test, this is just something that has to be done , I feel like the people that has the test on monkeys has a very hard job, but in the end it’s for the greater good!!!! Nobody likes that that has to be done, but someone has to do it ….. You just have to keep praying …🙏

So what has become of this story? It's now September 2022... I live just a mile or two from this still-standing structure. Is ANY of my taxes going towards this place? Is it vacant? Am I able to see the property, if my tax $$ are continuously being funneled here? And if so, why not?? I pay for this - why is it OFF LIMITS? I LOVE primates. Would love to be a part of research for them. Would like to know if they are cared for properly, living in this extreme heat we fellow primates have to deal with... ANSWERS YET??

It’s a breeding facility for lab monkeys used by a University. They keep quiet about it for obvious reasons since it isn’t a popular use of animals. The monkeys are still there. The facility is off limits and the building sits on reservation land. The canal service road that the building is next to is accessible to the public. The cages face the service road at an angle so if you brought binoculars you could observe from a legal distance if you wanted to.

Hell those same kind of monkeys run wild in Los Angeles, Texas. Seen myself years ago when I went to get my grandmother. They was everywhere. Some lady was raising them, some how they got loose and went wild. They Re thriving. You wouldn't believe what all there is all to eat in the desert, so it is no surprise.

Do you want new medical breakthroughs? Well then you better get behind the idea of animal testing as we have no effective alternatives at this time. It's not great, no one wants to have to do it, but we have to do it.
@laughingachilles7 жыл бұрын
You're kidding right? I have worked in labs which use animals, no one wants to have to use them, it's just the only choice we have. Consider the immune system for a moment. Let's say we are trying to develop an anti-rejection drug which doesn't suppress the immune systems ability to fight infection. We identify surface proteins which look like they are suitable targets and so we enter the test phase. We begin with in-vitro tests and find that the drug does indeed do what we expected it to do. Now we need to make sure it's safe, but the complexity of a living body isn't something we can model (yet). There are no in-vitro methods to examine what effects this would have on an organisms entire immune system. We need to check whether the white cell count is effected, if the organism loses the ability to fight infection due to unforeseen effects or just horrible side effects in general. Once again, there are no alternative systems available to do this sort of research. Ironically to develop such systems we have to use animals in the research, which people like yourself wouldn't be happy about.

0ooTheMAXXoo0 a mister and a fan is called a swamp cooler and is a type of air conditioning. It does condition the air. It will lower the sensible air temp but greatly increase the humidity. It may not be as bad for monkeys but for humans it makes sweating ineffective. And we overheat.
