Here is a brief history of Sikkim. The several hundred years old Kingdom was briefly overran by the Nepalese in the 17th century and the then Choyal fled the country and ask the Qing dynasty of China for help. The Qianlong emperor sent an expedition to drive out the Nepalese and restored the kingdom's independence. Sikkim was left unmolested until 1975 when India invaded and annexed the tiny kingdom and kept the Choyal in house arrest for the rest of his live. His American wife queen Hope Cooke fled Sikkim and returned back to the United States. Queen Hope Cooke is still alive and live in New York.

@@GroguemanKeep on telling the lies. The referendum was about between voting for democracy or voting for the monarchy. It was never about joining India. India used it as a pretext to annex Sikkim, which the RAW has been working for years to make it happen. Why would anyone want to be part of India?! Every Indian will escape the shithole when given a chance and the Sikkimese want to be part of the filthiest country in the world?

They have academic education, playing time, holidays too, but all have it's timetable. Most of the monastery have football playground and some other playing items too but they are more systematic

Nice peaceful buddhism in gangtok.plz monk should avoid egg,meat,alcohol,married and living luxury life. Most tibetan cultural monks and nuns are not following this buddhist rules.bad buddhist culture was born in potala lhasa.buddha said if you don't have any food to eat then you can eat meat. Pureveg and simple living monks could teach us to be pureveg and live simple life without any violence. This comment is from the land of buddha lumbini nepal.
