It may have been lack of experience with mono green for Pavel, or maybe he had a very hard day already. At 28minutes40seconds you analyzed it correctly. Using the Strip Mine to take out the Plains, with that either forcing Philip to swords before combat, or animate the factory would have either brought the math to 5 attackers vs. 3 blockers or 5 attackers vs 4 blockers. Either way, Philip would have lost 1 life, causing the start-of-turn sequence with Serendib and Spirit link to matter. I guess Pavel was not aware of life loss happening first, or maybe not being familiar with the rules that causes states to resolve at the end of an initiative step. Either way, very exciting games!

He also had him at 24:30 when the control player tapped out for the Serra Angel. He could have swung with everything, and at least 2 points would have gone through and Pavel would have won with the Spirit Link triggers on the stack. One of those nuances with Spirit Link vs the modern Lifelink ability, hopefully Pavel will understand that and win more games in the future. Cool deck, good games!

Great game. Contrary to believes, the mono Green (or its more powerfull Gb option) is extremely hard to pilot and needs lots of practise.

The end of the first game he could have blocked a factory with the scavenger folk then before damage activated it to blow up the other to keep his dragonfly around

@17:20 don’t know how it works in old school but in modern, it is possible for the Scavenger to block one factory, then activate its ability to kill the other factory and by doing so preventing all combat damage, by doing so the other green creature would survive - is that durable in OS?

Yes. Neither Factory has Trample so it works just fine.

I recommend a couple of books and a couple of libraries for this deck. Also a couple of Killer Bees, not a playset but like 2x, could be devastating. The deck runs out of cards so easily and so quickly that a card that taps out can work. I wouldn't run any Factories in this deck either as they seem to have anti-synergy with the rest of the deck. A few Gaea's Avenger in the SB could be hilarious as all sorts of decks run a ton of mana rocks plus other stuff. And between MB and SB there should be 4x Hurricanes. Emerald Dragonfly should be cut.

Killer bees is not a bad shout. But book? Too slow, much better Sylvan Library, who cares about damage (especially against control players).

@@lozkko The deck as is runs out of cards way too fast and getting to 4 mana is not a huge thing for a deck running Elves and Ice Storm (because you want to curve into 3-mana Ice Storm on turn 2, it makes getting to 4 mana much more likely). The deck has so many 1 mana spells that it drops it's hand fast so Ivory Tower/Sylvan is not viable. So it needs a few more cards that let it tap out while it sits on Giant Growth or tapping Tome.

​@@Rorschachqp good to have another person's opinion. I have to say I don't have much experience with mono green stompy, so I could be wrong. While what you say makes sense, I can also see the disadvantages of the book, especially in this deck. This deck runs very few artifacts, so any artifact hate would hit the book, whereas Sylvan is only vulnerable to disenchant. And while 4 lives per card drawn is a lot, if you are fast you can generally afford to do so at least once or twice. I find that unless I have counterspells, when I use the book I rarely manage to activate it more than once or twice.

There are vertical decks and horizontal decks. Berserk belongs in a vertical deck while not in a horizontal deck. This mono green is built horizontally and not in a good way. Horizontal decks need a lot of card draw and really like cards that are X finishers. This green deck has no card draw and that’s tough as green is already the weakest color with only one silver bullet, the Ice Storm, which is only marginally useful. If I was given this deck, I would add Sylvan Library and at least two Jayemdae Tomes. Now you have your X spell and your card draw.

@@Rorschachqp except berserk is not only a offensive card, it’s also a control device that can act just like a StP, especially in combo with a Maze, which was in the deck, but you don’t even need a maze, taking 4 damage from a factory on turn 2 while destroying not only a creature but a land is crazy good. I would take Berserks over Ice Storms anyday. Past turn 4 or 5, ice storm is basically useless unless your getting rid of a LoA or factory. I agree though, where are the sylvans? That’s like a blue powered deck not using recall.
