I love your videos and I get excited when I get a notification that a new one was released. I, too, missed the voice over. Mostly because I couldn’t figure out when you transferred the head onto the Gelli plate. Watched multiple times. A lot of time viewing cutting out the acetate (?) but not figuring when the head went down. Nonetheless, I loved the video and the two prints. I have 7 cans of liquitex acrylic spray paint calling out to me. Time to go play.

Thanks, it’s nice to know people get excited to see new stuff from me. Sometimes I find it a struggle to find the time to did a voice over, as I have to do it separately from when I’m videoing, and I wanted to also try a few different things to, they won’t all be like this. As for when the head went down, it kind of didn’t in a way as I really just made a silhouette by creating the background first, then I wanted the drips on these to be at the forefront and then I just added the small details of what I could see in the face after. Then the infill of the rest of the face was the lilac and off white colours of the two prints which finished off the heads. Hope that kind of makes sense??

Beautiful work! If you want the spray cans to spray more consistantly, shake for 1 minute. Submerge in bucket of warm water for a couple of miinutes, dry off then shake again for 30 secs, then spray, you'll get a finer more controllable misting.

Hey Mark! I love your videos and follow you on Facebook as well 🥰 I just have a quick question for you: if I wanted to use printed out images for a gelli mono printing, what sort of ink does the printout need to be to properly transfer onto the plate? I know most at-home printers are inkjet, but I used the library's printer (a laserjet) and the transfer didn't work, either 😔 Are magazines (and whatever ink/printing process they use) the ONLY type of image that will transfer to a gelli plate properly? Thanks in advance, keeping making great stuff!

Amazing talent here Mark. You obviously know exactly what you are doing. However I just can't get my head around what I just watched, lol! Same with some other videos I've viewed, many of which seem to do it slightly different than the last. I am so confused about the whole geli plate printing process in general. How do I start? Is it a case of working in layers from back to front (even that sounds complicated)? Should I know how the finished art should look or just do random stuff? Think I've watched too many videos coz my brain is boggled! 😜 Seems everyone and their dogs are geli printing with great zeal and success and my plate is still new and unused, lol!
@gelwithmark
@gelwithmark 6 ай бұрын
I think start simple. When I started I decided to pick one image, which was the same one in this video a man’s head and I set myself a task to do ten images using this same portrait but to try different techniques on each print allowing myself to become familiar and understand the printing process. Just start by doing one or two layers, cut out some paper shapes use them as masks for the first layer and then and the second layer of colour over the top and print and then work your way up to trying more complicated things as your confidence grows, experimenting is key in understanding gel printing things work and sometimes things don’t but it doesn’t really matter in the end, just have fun.

How long do you let each layer dry. So far I can't seem to pick up all layers when pulling a print. Love this technique.
@gelwithmark
@gelwithmark 10 ай бұрын
I normally dry each layer completely by using a hairdryer on its lowest heat setting and on its slowest speed setting. I always keep it moving and have it a decent height above the plate. The fluid acrylic drips I left to dry over night as these take a long time to dry. Then after I have laid my final wet layer down and added my paper I leave, generally, to dry over night with some weights on top. If you feel the back of your print, when it’s still down on your plate, if it’s cold to the touch, it’s probably still a bit wet, if this happens to me I either leave it a bit longer or give it a blast with the hairdryer again and normally that will be enough to get a decent pull. Hope that helps.

First thank you for your time! I'm learning a lot here. I have one question if you have the time. Whe you use permanent marker and some left on the plate after pulling the final print, how do you clean it? Also with oil? Thanks.
@gelwithmark
@gelwithmark 9 ай бұрын
Yes oil will get it off, I would normally put a decent amount on, say 4/5 good size drops, then massage it all over but giving extra attention to where the stain is, then leave for 5mins and wipe off excess with a soft rag or similar. If the stain is still there, repeat until removed.

Need more explanations- is the original image underneath the gel plate? Then You put the mask on the top side, I think. So far I only see spray paint, tho it says fluid acrylics. Can’t all this be done with acrylic brushes on?
@gelwithmark
@gelwithmark 3 ай бұрын
@@janetketo8066 yes you are right in thinking the original image is underneath the plate and then I flip the plate over and add my acetate mask onto the top surface. The fluid paint is what is being applied with the pen like tool I show and then blob spots onto the plate, I then lift the plates up so you see the fluid paint running down its surface. Yes you could probably do all this with brushes but I think you would struggle to get the flat unified covering that the spray paint achieves and also it would be very hard to get the blended gradient between the black and blues with brushes. I like to experiment with different materials on a gel plate so that it remains fun and exciting to discover applications of media which gives me more options for future endeavours in my creative practice. Hope that answers your questions.
