Nice idea for a single wheel trailer. I have been looking at several designs over the last few months. The engineering that goes into these intrigues me.

When I built this over a decade ago, I had no clue what I was doing... It actually has changed very little since then... But I have learnt so so so much from living with it... What I would do different? What changes I wold make? etc etc... I also had to rebuild the hitch to fit my new bike, Suzuki intruder C800 (videos of this are on the channel).. The Hitch has suffered damage from cars hitting the rear of the trailer, so is currently broken. I am going to rebuild it stronger and extend, further back, the braces from the pannier brackets, to nearer the UJ and hitch point.

Have you ever put the design into something you can sell online? I am on a 1300 V Star Tourer right now. I'd like to put on a single wheel trailer. I've seen some, but they just didn't 'feel' right to me. I like the way yours looks.

You mean plans? The videos I put up are to help people design and build there own, or get some-one to do it for them... I quite literally made this up as I went along, with basic tools, even the welder was s/h and years old before I bought it. The frames was an old childrens bunk bed and scrap I had laying around... I spent a month building it on my parents driveway.

OK, thank you. I'll have to get on that as soon as I clear some other long standing projects. I appreciate this series upload. Very helpful.

My pleasure, I enjoy making stuff and I come up with some very interesting ideas, so I share them with everybody, so they can do it too

The universal joint must be positioned with the vertical axis on the engine, the horizontal axis must be on the side of the trayler otherwise it will tip over in a sharp bend or when reversing.

Been running this trailer for over 15 years, never had a problem, and I do throw it around like it's not there!

I did have an idea of a "Quick Release" the two bolts you have that go on to the bike pickup point, you could drill that all the way through and get 1 long bolt with a hole drilled in the thread end and when you hook it upto the bike and put the bolt in you can put a "R" clip in it so it does not come out like it he with the rear wheel shaft on most bikes to stop the nut coming off. just an idea

you got t5he bolts done up too tight it's stiff ,there should be freely moving.
@millioncatz10 жыл бұрын
i'd of used a uj propshaft joint cos then youd get up and down movement too,u dont grease towing tow balls and shouldn't of greased that bolt .when you was showing it swiveling back and forth left to right it looked like it was notchy thats not good.

very nice uj.

Yes, I was going for redundancy (never a bad thing when its your safety) and security ie - the easier the release the quicker someone could run off with your trailer, which now has me thinking of putting the chain back on O_o Although you now have me thinking about it.... hhhhmmmm
