I would be very cautious with very wide red zone garrisons in pub matches. You can encourage all the players that should be defending to respawn too far away from the active sector. You gotta herd those cats.

you are assuming anyone in pub servers defends lmao. all the servers i play in are practically unplayable with all the dumbfucks running around in locked sectors and giving 0 fucks about anything other than kills. i can only tolerate maybe two games of it and i just switch to squad. i never thought it would be easier to find team players in squad than hll.

It's all fun and games until 90% of the team decides to go for the wide flanking. It's not easy being a commander in pub matches, but some games, those 1 out of 5 the stars align and all the right guys decide to do what they must, those are the matches that make it worth it all.

The games where you have a competent commander and a majority of squad leaders with mics are always filled with amazing moments. From coordinating a single perfect artillery shell to organising flanks in transport trucks, coordinating smoke screens and then mass group nading a position and then all charging in shouting hurrah down your mic, no other fps comes close

It was the most amazing moment ive ever had in gaming hands down.

A lot of things to be successful in this game are very basic, but people are so focused on just running forward and getting into the fight. There have been several games where my squad has turned the tide by flanking instead of following the blueberry wave

I know. It's kind of depressing that such basic things are considered advanced tactics and common sense is considered basic tactics. Even more so when you realise that most people don't know basic tactics. I mean I had a squad member complaining about how he just kept running around for 5 minutes just to die. I had to actually tell him to stop running around and then explain to him why it was getting him killed. You'd thing something as basic as that wouldn't have to be said. Or the people complaining in chat about being spawn killed. Spawn somewhere else ffs. Or better yet, get your squad leader to relocate your OP. I just realised this turned into more of a rant than I intended. Point is; I agree. Only basic things are needed to be successful in this game.

Also, remember that as a squad leader it its alright to hang back a bit. If you die, and the outpost is gone, your squad can’t spawn anymore. Let someone else take point. If you are thinking: ‘but then my guys don’t know where we are going’, place markers. This is something you should always do. That way you can coordinate better, both with a squad and the other officers.

New player here. Love the tactics as they are similar to actual military tactics. I noticed very quickly that it’s difficult to keep team integrity unless you have like minded players. The majority of what I see so far is every man for himself in most cases and very little communication. That is, unless you’re lucky enough to join a battle with teams that understand the strategy involved. Dare I say it - just like the actual military. Love HLL though. I recently started playing this game properly a few weeks ago now, I've had the game ages but never invested any time into it, now I am loving it. The only thing I dislike is I seem to get texture pop in/out when I aim down sights... I never had this before but I think I've changed a setting and now I get it all the time, anyone know how I can get rid of it? I'll aim down sights and a bush or foilage will appear/disappear. It's making it harder to spot enemies or something will pop in/out and for a split second I'll think it's an enemy moving, when it's not.

Spawn the loosing side. Die a few times. Get an actual good idea how to win back the middle. Sneak arround for 10 minutes to get the perfect position. You idea becomes reality. The only thing I don't like is this rotating role thing. It's weird. I think the devs should fix this somehow by making the supplies cooldown being squad based not player based. That would lead to more interaction between squads, it would force two squads to work together for building garrisons.
@monoespacial
@monoespacial 3 жыл бұрын
I think it's a necessary evil. I would just split my squad in two and communicate through discord if they made cooldowns squad-dependant. Very few games with mechanics as complicated as HLL withstand players trying to break/bend the intended game mechanics.

@TheStugbit 3 жыл бұрын

@monoespacial
@monoespacial 3 жыл бұрын
I just read it. I disagree with most of it however. While I would like to see the commander be able to draw arrows or stuff like that on the map, I don't think the rest of your suggestions would work. For example, you say "Let's say that we’re going to attack Position X, and we’re going to do so by splitting the team in half, one group makes the main attack, the other provides a flank support in the direction of Position X’s rearguard". Who decided that? The commander? Is the commander going to assign each squad to a task? What happens if a squad doesn't listen or agree with the operation? The main issue is that any battle plan like the one you propose requires discussion, or at least a briefing. There's no time for that in HLL. This is a game where a match can last 15min if a team fails to fall back and defend quickly enough. There is no time for grand strategizing once the match starts. Due to this and the general squad leader's level of incompetence, an effective commander is often giving orders like "able and baker squad please fall back and defend. I'll drop an airhead and need everyone else to spawn there". A lot of players won't follow the objective, ever. You could put a giant arrow on the middle of the screen and they'll ignore it and run to the closest enemy position, get killed and do it again, and again, and again. There's the old mantra in Battlefield games "play the fucking objective". There's a reason for that: half the playerbase doesn't care. The same is true in almost every other game and HLL is no exception. It's not a problem with the size or clarity of map markers, it's a problem with the players themselves. What you describe happens in private matches or tournaments, where each squad (ideally) gets assigned a specific objective or role depending on predetermined situations that might unfold. If you want that, then join a clan. The only other time when this (might) happen is when you get into a server with a high number of veteran squads on each side. For the most part however, Squad leaders are individually responsible for the success of their squad, not the commander. And what their objective is and how they achieve it is 99% of the time something they themselves decided. I think you are wildly overestimating anyone's willingness to have someone else tell them what they're gonna do and how they're gonna do it. In regards to your second suggestion, the problem with the support class is their lack of grenades. That's why you don't want a support player in your squad unless you actually need him. When I'm SL, I just ask someone to redeploy and spawn as support when needed. I don't really care if someone's actively playing support all the time.
@TheStugbit
@TheStugbit 3 жыл бұрын
@@monoespacial I understand. Thanks for your time reading it. But let me ask you, don't you think that having a huge mark in front of their faces wont get a higher probability of the players following the objective set by the commander at least a little, little bit? Because I see hll veterans complaining a lot about newer players, as if a lack of understanding on how the game work. I was trying to help the new players in game without the need of a tutorial or something like this.

This is where recon comes into its own. They can drop their OP anywhere behind the enemy lines and they're small enough to do a wide flank and drop the garrison in the appropriate place(s) without detracting too much from the fight at large. A switched on Commander (to drop supplies in the right spot at the right time) and a good recon spotter can win the game. I would argue that large wide flank is better performed by the recon squad, and they can also be looking out for enemy nodes along the way

For example, not building garrisons as a squad leader when supplies are right next to them, not communicating, not listening etc. I've seen people level 60+ doing this. Flanking does not have to be that wide of an L shape. You do not have to span the entire map for a flank. If there are enemies in the trench 100m in front of you, taking a squad along a hedge row perpendicular to the trench and hitting it from the side is a flanking maneuver. An excellent example of this is the Brécourt Manor Assault from episode two of Band of Brothers where Winters leads two squads and flanks the German artillery guns. That is a textbook use of flanking and is still used as an example at West Point (United States Military Academy). To be effective at flanking in this game you need to ensure a minimum of your Machine gunner, but preferably a second squad is engaging the position you want to flank. Then you move around and up until you are perpendicular to them. You initiate a crossfire and assault through the objective. Key points to remember, 1. Suppress the enemy position, 2. relocate the flanking squad perpendicular to the enemy position (Speed and Stealth are imperative for this to be most effective, maintain the element of surprise if possible), 3. Throw grenades then Fire on the position and advance through it (Push your squad forward while having the suppressing squad walk its fire in front of you so they don't shoot your squad) 4. If done correctly your squad will have killed/disabled the enemy position. BE AWARE: the element of surprise and speed really are imperative. If your squad fires on the enemy before in position or your squad takes too long, the enemy will spawn reinforcements from a nearby outpost or garrison. Strike Hard, Strike Fast.

Best thing to do if you are up for playing SL (in my opinion the best way to play other than mg or medic) is ensure your entire squad has mics at the start of the game, then you can all spawn together and coordinate throughout the entire game. I like sticking to the flanks, both defence and attack depending on the situation but the best part about having a full squad communicating and working together is thst regardless of how the match goes, even if you get blitzed and lose badly, you'll still have a bunch of fun with the squad

This is why I love to play as a recon squad. Just hard to find others that realize playing on point is only effective in a few scenarios. Rather have a low kd recon squad being a nuisance to nodes and other things then a guy who dropped 50 outpost farming.
@SpartanRush5th
@SpartanRush5th 3 жыл бұрын
15:33 This is what I am referring to when I ask players to give me a wide flank; when I am playing recon I call this the big sneak. Send a squad in deep to get around the enemy from a direction they are not expecting to encounter us. Going in deep and avoiding confrontations at all costs until you get your garrison up for the flank. Trying that flank within 1 grid of meaningful grid space will just result in their defensive line moving down and inevitably dragging people into a fight outside of meaningful space. You can use the opposite of this to help defend as well, send a team to build a deep garrison for your proximity alarm down there.

Sorry to disagree with you ar 15:00. Your first example is actually flanking. Your second is actually OutFlanking. Don't get me wrong, i am the guy that outflanks most, and is something that i am aware since i play main spotter for my clan, and secondly SL (playing since U4). But there are some caveats to that: You risk to be more than just over extended - you avoid completely the fight, and again you aren't at any important sector so you are losing time and manpower, and creating a hole in the line to be breached, not contributing at all for quite some time. I would prefer having the newbie that doesnt want to rediploy because in both cases there isn't any garry but at least he is doing something. I never suggest ppl do that because SL tend to bring all 6man in that outflank which is just 6man jogging, not holding any line. But hold on because outflanks are a very good strategy within this Spawn meta! There are 4 stages in getting out of Nooblike play. Take your bunch of salt, this is how i see things: 0 - you run straight line to the enemy 1 - you flank (usually here ppl get the first Eureka and somewhere here they catch a garry and get the second Eureka) 2 - (mostly because enemy is well extended at it's frontline, tight, you cant make that basic flank) you go all around the map but bring all the man with you. Worse than nr1 3 - you go by your own (at max bring one with you), while squad stays and holds the line using garry. You get in position, mostly behind them, and then put an OP. You make the squad teleport instantly. 4 - (responsibility) you dont flank where too many friendlies are flanking. HOLD THE LINE. I've seen this too often after a long period without a free weekend (ppl are getting better at the game). Ppl get the idea of flanking, love it and just wanna do it. READ THE MAP. There form a line! I never make a garry in a very far flank!!! So i desagree at 16:00. Blueberries will spawn there and that is receipt for failure. Why? There must be ppl pushing the line... putting a garry is dictating friendlies movement, mostly the unexperienced. Think if putting that garry there will pour friendlies out of somewhere and put them too far of relevance. You gotta heard the unexpirianced. Nowadays i don't go much with trucks in outflanks. I position at the end of our line and battle there, stopping the advance of enemy in the flank and pushing myself. Its more fun. But when i see things ugly here i go make a garry behind them. Getting a garry behind them and start the Cap will force them to fall back. Get your head around the concept of Sector VS SPoint, flank but dont overextend. Eventually you will cap if you surround them... but remember THERE ISN'T "CAP FASTER", THERE IS JUST "CAP FIRST". And again, there is a distinction between Flank and Outflank. There is.... Hugs
