I built this recently as a nostalgia build. I made it several time as a kid. It took a lot of lead weights to keep it on its nose. Actually a pretty basic kit with some mediocre fits but it is a 1956 mold. Almost 70 years old and still going.

@@maxsmodels I’m building the 1999 reissue of this kit right now. The plastic used is noticeably softer than the original. The mold shows changes that were made over the years to make other versions as well. The tail hook location has been eliminated so to has the retractable stand of the Air Force version. Fit is not as good as the original issue. You can tell the molds are getting tired because there is a lot of flash, seam lines and extra ejection pin marks. A lot of extra clean up work needed. Im building it as if its 1957. Testors tube glue, enamel paint and an X-acto knife and thats it! Hopefully get the vid of it up today if all goes well. I will be sure not to show any boom sticks!

This is my favorite vintage model kit Channel, there are other KZbin channels that Explore vintage model kits, but none of them go into the detail and research that this channel does most of them just open up the kit show you the contents but this channel actually tells you the whole history of the aircraft the history of the kit it's a great Channel❤❤❤❤❤❤ keep making these videos and I hope that your channel grows and gets bigger

I built many Monogram kits as a kid. Loved the working features on planes like the Dauntless, Zero, Hurricane and others.

I used to see you these T 28's every day when I worked out of Corpus Christi TX. They were a rugged, dependable aircraft for the US Naval air training branch obviously at NAS Corpus Christi.

@@daveblevins3322 The Navy used them regularly well into the 80s with the last ones being retired in the early 90s. I wouldn’t be surprised that some small air force somewhere still has a few operational.

I have the 1975 release of the T-28B. Haven't built it as yet, though. I was surprised at how large the T-28 actually is in real life.

I built this back in the early 60s. The A, B, and D models all had 2 seats. The A models had that Wright R-1300. I worked on the B models in the Navy in the mid 70's. Sometimes when we would order flight controls such as rudders, elevators, and ailerons, they would actually come painted yellow, and still in 50's packaging..

Great presentation. 👏👏👏👏👏 Have a Kitty Hawk 1/32 T28 in my stash and what a chunky looking kit it is. A few years back I visited an aviation museum in South Korea and I was really surprised at the size of this aircraft, sitting high off the ground and that huge prop. A sight to behold.

@@MrDastardly It is big fat bastard! You can see North American used some design cues from the P-51. But it definitely looks like a Mustang ate too many Messerschmitts!

Just found and subscribed to your channel. Awesome channel topic. I will be looking around a bit but I already like what I see. I have a 1/48 T-28B in my stash awaiting a turn on the bench but operating gear and canopy is uniquely rare.

Thanks Ed! I just subbed your channel as well. I was making a build video of the T-28 and got it almost done and ran into a snag because of the operating gear. I glued some weights in the nose piece so it wouldnt be a a tail sitter. Unfortunately the weights bump against the gear in the fuselage when I tried to put the nose one. Fortunately they are lead fishing weights so I think I will be able to file them down.

When they issued the A version it differed from the previous B by having 2 seated pilots. When it was reissued in the Monogram Classics boxing they reverted to their orginal B cockpit having a seat in the rear & the standing instructor figure.

@@stuarthanna2417 I an building the Monogram Classic issue right now. I noticed the difference in pilot figure and the added seat. There are a fee more changes that must have been incorporated over the years. The slot for the swivel stand is gone. Holes on the underside of the wing for ordinance pylons. The plastic feels flimsier as well. Making a build video out of this one which will hopefully be up tomorrow.
