I absolutely love this game. Got it on steam I think last fall. Would like it on Switch though.

I still think overall I prefer Gungeon, but if you only have like 10-15 minutes to spare it is excellent for that. Whereas Gungeon is more of a long haul 45 minute a pop sort of deal.

Monolith's shmup design is better in every way fight me IRL.

Considering that Gungeon literally just got a major content patch this week you have chosen a bold time to be making statements. Monolith is somewhat tighter in design because of the decision to limit the game to one screen box rooms with I beleive consistent enemy placements, this allows for a more refined experience. Gungeon has randomised enemy types but non-randomised placement and number of waves (a few early rooms that always spawn bullet-fairies notwithstanding). So as a result the rooms are less tailored to their enemy spawns. That said, the bredth of hidden content in Gungeon blows Monolith away, and Monolith isn't exactly a slouch in the department either. There are now no less than four hidden FULL levels in what is supposed to be a 5 level game, and that doesn't even begin to go into the weapons and the subtext background lore of how Melee Weapons are forbidden and come with curse in the Gungeon. Ultimately I would say Monolith has a nice clean minimalist purity of purpose, whereas Gungeon is a superlative monster of an experience.

I find the pattern, enemy and level design in Gungeon incredibly bland, so I don't see the long runs and large amount of content as a plus. I've played the update, and it's not like it fixed the core problems I have with the game, though it did add some neat stuff. I'm not looking to start shit, but I just think Gungeon is a bad shmup, and no matter how much variance and content there is, it can't save a game with bad core gameplay imho.

Twisted Banana Productions literally what would that improve I'm speaking as someone who curses like a sailor in roughly 90% of my speech and I honestly can't understand what a superfluous "fuck" would add to commentary that's gotten more informative and engaging over the years
