I really like what you did with the sub-base that was quite the effort but I think shows super quality.

One of the best job site prep and pours I've seen on youtube, really fine work. Gave it a thumbs up but I'd point out that a time lapse is like taking in Tuscany from 30k feet up, all the valuable details get lost in the shuffle. Having said that, thanks for posting, I take what I can.

My bad. I've found another vid where you go on to show and explain the details prior to pouring. The fact that you are the home owner explains a lot about the adherence to high standards of quality. Great job.

you really spent some time on that rock base. Very impressive. It looks like your only compacted an inch or two at a time. I don't think a contractor would have done that. Great job. I'm looking to do one myself for a garage slab. You've showed me what it takes. Now I just got to get my ass up. Great work again!

From the start of digging the footings tell pouring concrete was a while because we had to put plumbing under the slab, put forms up, put rebar in, and get it all inspected. Sorry I don't have a time line but I hope the video helps. Thanks for watching. :)

I am guessing that the three 4-foot square deeper holes in the center are for support? I remember seeing you hand digging them out in a prior video, carrying the waste away in a bucket. I presume there was a reason!
@KoalityofLife5 жыл бұрын
Yes, we have a center beam holding up the floor joists and a ridge beam for the rafters, so we need 3 posts in the middle to support these beams. Walls will be going up soon. :)

Great video, what did you use as far as wood materials for forms? I've never done this and want to learn more. At your earliest convenience, provide details?
@KoalityofLife2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. There are many different ways to make forms for concrete, sometimes the soil composition in your area will dictate how you make forms for concrete. I have a video up on my channel about the forms I made for our house. Search the word "form" on my channel and I'm sure you will find it. :)

Are the three square “holes” in the center of the house just to add additional strength as extra “footings”? What is their purpose? Is it for plumbing reasons? Thanks!
@KoalityofLife3 жыл бұрын
The 3 squares in the middle of the house are where posts will be to hold some of the load of the house. Our house has some posts and beams with rafters instead of trusses so these thicker spots were added. Thanks for watching. :)

Is this type of slab good enough for Canadian cold weather?
@KoalityofLife3 жыл бұрын
That all depends on the frost depth of your area. Some parts of the US get way colder than we do where we are at but they still build on slabs. :)

Just curious, I didn't see you guys putting in a vapor barrier prior to putting down the insulation, is this insulation suppose to act as a vapor barrier, or does code not require it?
@KoalityofLife4 жыл бұрын
There is a vapor barrier under the insulation. It is a 6 mill black plastic, you can see it at the 7:15 mark in the video. Vapor barriers may not be required everywhere but they are a good idea to use even when not required. Thanks for watching. :)

Very informative, thank you! How many days did it all take? What was the cost of it per m2 doing it yourself?
@KoalityofLife5 жыл бұрын
I think it took a month from the time I started digging the footings tell the concrete was poured. This included waiting for the plumber to come out and help with the plumbing layout and install and waiting for the concrete guy to come out and pour it. We probably saved 2/3rds of what it would have cost us to have a contractor do it all. Thanks for watching. :)

It didn't look like the rigid insulation was put in the bottom of a trench on the fattened edges, why is no insulation put there when it is put under the rest of the slab and on the vertical sides of the fattened edges
@KoalityofLife Жыл бұрын
The county I live in only requires the rigid foam in one of two places, 1 under the floor part of the foundation or 2 around the perimeter of the footings. I chose to do both for better insulation factor. At that time (about 5 years ago now) no one was putting rigid foam under the footings so I didn't put any there. It would probably add to the insulation factor but I don't know how much as our frost depth is only 18 inches and the footings are a little over 2 foot deep. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. :)
@calvinkalmon6746 Жыл бұрын
@KoalityofLife yes, it helps a lot, thank you. I am going to build the same Foundation here in northern Wisconsin, right where I live the frost depth goes to 6ft some years. I'm pretty sure the code here requires the insulation to completely encapsulate the slab. Thanks very much, it was a good video oh, I learned quite a bit from it.

in most cases putting insulation under the slab is useless, unless you have groundwater under the slab not deeper than 10 feet . I would prefer to insulate the ground for 4 feet around the foundation
