Showed this game to my parents to see if I could get them into boardgames. My mom spent the whole game building two and a half complete properties and was one card away from winning (which she had in hand). The moment my dad stole it all from her with Deal Breakers and Forced Deals that he had luckily found in the deck, she lost any and all interest in continuing the game. And I don't blame her...

ouch, yeah that sounds a bit familiar to what happened to me on my first game. It kind of feels good to get sets at first if you don't know that dealbreaker exists! -Ashton

@Shelfside There's just something about luck determining a player's ability to affect other players that can ruin a game for many people. Catan, Munchkin, even Ludo...

We love this game. When you start card counting with folks who know what is going on - it can get tense as heck. Best version of monopoly.

At 11:30 a London themed version is shown (hence Marlborough Street). Perhaps you could do a 'fun' review of the classic card game 'Pit'.

My family and I decided to buy this game this past summer on a whim because it was hard to find time to sit down and play an entire game of the board game Monopoly. It was all fun and games until I swapped with my mom to complete her set and then deal breaker'd it to win the game. Ever since then it has been mind games galore🤣

I wonder if uno flip is any better or if it's more or less the same kind of meh experience?
@AnthonyFloresCPAАй бұрын
New to the game, I love it. I have some questions though. Can the 3 cards a player plays on their turn be all of 1 type? For example banking 3 money cards, putting down 3 properties, or using 3 action cards?
@joeryan5587Ай бұрын
We took out the cards that steal complete sets and it makes the gane way more fun. Also, we made it so switching wild cards to a different color costs an action, and they cant be switched once a house is on the set.

You need the original version with the extra cards from hk edition.

I "Love?" Monopoly deal. I discovered this game with my uncle around the time I was trying to get into board games. I loved monopoly at the time but had difficulty getting people to play. This game fixed that for me in ways and I have always enjoyed take that mechanics with counterplay like just say no provides. The combos and stategies are just deep enough where I find this way more interesting and engaging than uno or the like. However Monopoly deal is also kind of a prison of my own making. I used the game to introduce my family and casual friends into gaming and they loved it, but 90% don't want to move beyond it. And because I'm the "gamer" I often find myself trapped in games of monopoly deal at parties or get togethers when I brought 6 or so other great games id rather play. I don't ever really hate playing it but it's definitely lost a lot of the appeal it once had I don't even use it as a gateway game anymore. But I'm still happy I own it and have a lot of great memories with it
@TalliesynАй бұрын
Maybe it's because you introduced it in the first place :D? Maybe they believe other games are just like that, just tad more rules and time to be spend. You know, around here Monopoly does not ring a "fun" bell at all. Like there are so many quite interesting games which take simmilar time, but make a lot more sense. Skull, skulls of sedlec. Then you can go into calico, azul and so on.
@hereisnickscottАй бұрын
@@Talliesyn I think you misunderstood my original comment. First off, I already know that that's why I made the comment "prison of my own making" and it really isn't that deep I've just accepted that my family likes Monopoly deal. Monopoly deal is an old game at this point I was in a completely different time and headspace when I was playing this often. My family members are not confused or think this is the only game that exists, they just aren't much interested in any game that goes beyond the basics. We do play other games, I just don't find the more traditional hasbro fare that interesting anymore. While I have an attachment to it from childhood, I also don't play monopoly much if at all anymore and I don't need recommendations to save me from it or something I already have my style of games I enjoy I play with my friends who are more willing to play tabletop games. Monopoly deal was arguably my biggest success from moving them out of the comfort zone apart from maybe dominion. I just wish some of the more casual people I know would be more open to other gaming experiences that's all
@ShelfsideАй бұрын
Hey this is an awesome story. Agree that many just aren't interested in moving beyond it- and yes it does have more combos/strategies than uno hah. And no problem getting people to play! -Ashton

I wonder what would happen if you would need to pay for every card you play. I mean it would slow down the game a bit, and probably you would need a larger starting hand to plan something and probably need to draw 3 card in that case instead of 2, but that could balance out the swingy cards.

Me and my wife love this game. Simple enough that you can just chat while playing, but also not so mindless and playing your cards right still matters. We play with owning 5 properties and 30M as the Win Condition. New design looks great but a minor nitpick: whyd they change the money cards to be vertically oriented? They used to be horizontally oriented and actually looked like play money.
@ShelfsideАй бұрын
30 M win condition is genius! Perhaps this is much better as a 2 player chill time with those house rules. Cheers! -Ashton

He made a big deal of the 10m card but in all honesty it’s not that much better then a 5 or even lower sometimes. A rule he didn’t talk about is that you don’t make change. So if you owe 2m and have a 1 and a 10 down and some properties your going to use the 10 most likely.
@dieterneumann7291Ай бұрын
He did mention that there's no change. By the way, than and then can't be used interchangeably.

Monopoly is designed to be miserable as a warning against capital capturing real estate as investments. Makes sense that any derivatives would also be miserable.
