Great vid man, cheers. Time to dust off the o_C for the 4 quantisers. I really shouldn't have watched this before bed, I'm now buzzing with ideas! :)

Thanks! And indeed, always forget the O_C, but should be possible for sure!

Great stuff. I send complex CV to my quad quantizer all the time. All I need now is a matrix mixer to improve the workflow.

I literally just put a quantizer in my case yesterday! I picked up the qtone from DNIpro. I’m sending it voltage from a voltage adder with a Turing machine, 4 step sequencer and voltage from a the varigate 4+. Freakin melodic heaven 🎛️🤘😊

Is that a Hydrasynth I see in the background? How do you like it? I’d be curious to please see a video from you on how you use Hydrasynth and eurorack together.

Thanks as always for the great content, really appreciate it! Not sure where to ask this, but do you have any future plans on doing a series on the Tiptop/Buchla 200 series?
@MonotrailTechTalk6 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks! It was very high on my list, but since the start of this year mostly focus on more general ideas and tips. Might still try to get in touch with Tiptop one day to see if they would be interested in setting up a system, I would enjoy exploring it. In any case I am happy they are making the series. Beautiful modules!

I’ve had a Shakmat bard Quartet quantizer with expander for a long time, and this gives me a lot of exciting ideas about what to do with it. I’m a little confused as to the CV source that you’re feeding into the quantizer. Is it just any sequence, any envelope, any offset, and any random voltage, through a typical CV mixer? Can you eliminate any of them? A sequencer paired with a random voltage generator seems a bit redundant, especially considering that the notes are going to be quantized to a fixed scale. Is there something I’m not understanding?
@MonotrailTechTalk3 күн бұрын
Glad you like the video! You can use any CV source you like, and as many or few as you like. Each CV source has an 'effect' you can use and 'mix' in. For example, if you use a sequencer, you can use that sequencer to create a regular sequence, even though quantized again after the mix. However, you can now blend that sequence with other sources, for example a random source. If you mix a lot of random source the melody will become random, and the sequence redundant. But the beauty lies in subtle mixes. A tiny bit of random voltage will add subtle variations to the programmed sequence. Something like a slow clock division mixed with a sequence will transpose the sequence. Something like a very slow sequence with a faster LFO will create a looping sequence that jumps to different base notes, and so on. Just explore input signals. Tweak the settings of the inputs like LFO speed or rise and fall time of envelopes, and explore mixing in different signals :)

The Bard Quartet is possibly the most powerful quad quantizer. You can set it to either Sample & Hold or Track & Hold and pull pitches from any CV source you want. In fact it even has a separate Transpose input to mix CV with any or all of the four input channels. Using mixers and switches to combine voltage before the quantizer gives you more flexibility though.

Great inspiration as always…is the Hydrasynth desktop newer to your setup? Would love to see how you integrate that with your modular
@MonotrailTechTalk6 күн бұрын
Thank you! It moved from the other non-modular-off-camera side of the studio :) I am working on a live setup with the Oxi one + Hydra + single modular case above the hydra. Will talk about that a lot more, and finally recording music again! But have to admit I didn't use the CV in out that much yet!

will there be a video about the addac matrix mixer?
@MonotrailTechTalk6 күн бұрын
I plan to use it for a video on stereo audio feedback mixing. Maybe with a bit of stereo CV mixing as well :)
@loupasternak6 күн бұрын
nice to have hardware, but impossible to recreate settings... no ? At least with VCV you can save the patches
@jasonfnorth6 күн бұрын
And just slightly more affordable LOL
@MonotrailTechTalk5 күн бұрын
Modular is quite a hassle for sure :) But always like to focus on ideas, you can set this up with VCV, or probably some midi plugins as well!

That Addac quantizer is the most un-intuitive and difficult module I've ever had the misfortune of owning. It's a total nightmare. I'll use the o_C instead
@MonotrailTechTalk5 күн бұрын
That's the beauty of modular, people can pick the level of complexity they can handle. Personally really like the little keyboard for scale programming. And quantizing like done in this video is just plug an play.
@nickcope3 күн бұрын
The manual is abysmal, it lags, regularly misses top ends etc. Shakmat Bard Quartet is a much better module.
@MonotrailTechTalk2 күн бұрын
Don't have any of those problems, but enjoy the Quartet!
