Butiful explanation of your patch ideas, and use of modules, liked that touch with invert mix (one sound suppress the other) ❤

This is exactly the video I was looking for. I'm building multiple smaller DIY systems in wooden suitcases for easy storage and portability. I'm trying to get as most as I can out of them and this video introduced me to a ton of possibilities. Thanks so much and keep up the good work ❤

I was literally just rewatching the video where you introduced this system and I was super excited to see it again. I'm committed to diy-ing my whole system and I'm finally at the point where I can start making music, but it's still slow going. This is super helpful in inspiring me to think about how to do a lot with a little

Good idea. I really don't understand why people think you need a wall of modular to do something. If you think about most desktop synths, they have a lot of limitations. You just need a voice or two, some modulations, and a few VCA's and you're good to go.

Agree! And that's very interesting! I haven't really made that simple reference before, but it's so true. People love everything from the model D to the prophet 6, huge price range difference, but both pretty limited when it comes to ingredients and modulation etc. Will keep that idea in mind :)

Some great ideas, I try to make all my modular music as melodic, rhythmical and harmonious as possible. It’s all too easy to fall into the bleeps and bloops rabbit hole that tends to give modular a bit of a bad rap…..anyway keep up the good work. Cheers

The title is a little pokey, but I totally agree! Larger setups have my love for sure, but want to show every now and then you don't need a wall of youtuber setup modular stuff to enjoy or get into it :) Cheers!

@@MonotrailTechTalk of course. I agree with you. Especially as we enter the future, modules are becoming much more complex. Great things come from humble beginnings as they say

As always, love your content even if it just to keep in my back pocket to reference later! As an aside: does anyone happen to know of any kind of tutorial/instruction (video or written) that discusses the minimalist composition process of someone like Helene Vogelsinger and her masterful use of layering, complimentary melodies, swelling/fading audio mixing, effects and textural flourishes that she uses? It's an incredibly fascinating style of music to me but the only video that comes close that I found was a Morphagene advertisement and she uses it for like 2 minutes. Then she just breaks out into an entire arrangement that is no longer a tutorial but a "now draw the rest of the owl" kind of thing lol. As someone who doesn't have an education in music theory, any input would be appreciated!

Glad you like the video! Love Vogelsinger’s work. I think it’s hard to find a single tutorial that explains that in depth, simply because there is so much to unfold. Sound design, melody, chord progression, mixing, atmosphere etc etc. I think it can help to listen a lot to music you like, and try and break down elements. For example, take Vogelsingers video in that empty old home and listen to it a lot. Write down and analyse elements she uses, synth lines, choir samples, and so on, and see if you can learn from them. Also google good tutorials on general useful things like scales, melody, chord progression and so on, to slowly add those things to your knowledge base. Getting good will require a lot of exploring, practicing and just doing things. But picking good music to be inspired by is half the job :)

Don’t forget about Michael Hoenigs (Agitation Free, Tangerine Dream, Timewind) contribution to this movie. I was always wondering which synths were in Koyaanisquatsi. I‘ve read that Glass used a lot of transistor organ sounds, but some things clearly sound like sequencers and some even Synclavier‘ish to my ears. Anyone know details about it?

Here's the setup in modulargrid, little over 2k, but in reality with case and keys this is closer to 3k indeed. modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/2262695

This is exactly what I hoped to find since I'm just starting to build a small rack! I have one module only so far, the Befaco Oneiroi. I want to stay small. What case are you using in this video pleae? And would you recommend it?
@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk Ай бұрын
Nice! The case is a 84hp powered skiff from Eowave. It's a nice affordable option is if you like the small form factor. I would generally advice people to get a larger case so you won't have to make choices based on size any time soon. But compact portability is valuable as well. All up to you! :)
