Love your video. I just spent hours trying to figure on how to auto adjust on my new Onyx 55w to the point of utter frustration. This is the exact answer I was looking for. Honestly, I wish that there was a video library dedicated to this particular unit - and especial attention to suggest operational settings for various materials. Again, thanks for this much needed educational opportunity.

Thanks- glad the video was helpful! On my channel there's a whole playlist just for the Onyx!

For a fraction of the cost, the Onyx cuts so much faster than the crazy expensive Thunder Laser BOLT / BOLT PLUS. The Onyx "R" will be an even better deal with the auto-focus.

I just found this laser on amazon today and this is the first review I've seen. How have you liked it? I am looking to buy my first laser. I've done A LOT of research on various brands, models and types. I confuse myself so much. lol

What if my machine is not cutting through 1/4 in plywood with these settings? I am struggling
@thelaserchannel15 ай бұрын
First check the air assist is ON and also check that mirror #3 on the laser head is clean along with the focus lens. After checking those 3 things try running a little slower or adding more passes. I have found not all wood and plywood are the same so it's normal to have the use different settings.

what is the thickest material you can put on top of the honeycomb and still be able to use the laser? i'm curious if i could take a piece of wood that's a couple of inches thick (on top of the honeycomb) and engrave into it, or if we can't lift the laser at all.

Are you looking at the first version of the Onyx or the current second version Onyx-R? The machines are totally different inside and out.

@@thelaserchannel1 the new one, and i'm having a hard time finding folks who have stuff on it. My search skills are weak. :/

great demo and tips but you are showing only 3 mm material but nothing in 5mm polywood i just got mine onyx 55w laser haveing truble to do material test cut and engrave card 5mm polywood is not cutting right with the setting speed 400 power 40% still not cutting right .plus i dont see much of video on this machine only you are doing this .i have notic the honycom is not seeting tight on the buttom there are space in both direction about 3/4 which it caused the work space can moved and messed up the projectes when using magnet to hold down the material .not a good idea so monport should address this issue . i dont know i should give a good review on this machine or not .

Hi- I've been able to cut 1/4 think plywood with no issues in one pass and 1/2 inch thick solid oak in two passes. Wondering if your focus is off just a little bit- a ramp test is the best way to make sure the focus is spot on. The honey is designed to have a space under it- this allows the air and smoke to blow through the honeycomb- honeycomb does not perform well when on a flat surface without any air gap under it. Hope this helps. The Monport FB group is also a great resource where you can post photos and video of what you're seeing.

Very informative and done in an interesting manner. i can't figure how to align mirrors with my onyx. Think i need to pulse to align but can't figure how. Could you address this issue in a future program?
@thelaserchannel18 ай бұрын
Thank you! A maintenance video is scheduled for the Onyx soon that will include checking mirror alignment. The mirrors "should" be aligned from the factory but the 3rd mirror on the laser head is the only one easily adjusted- the mirrors 1 and 2 are inside a sealed metal box and do not need alignment; this is per the manual. In the video I'll show a super easy way to check the mirror alignment.

Nice video. The only problem is that Monport is well knows to have some of the worse customer support in the industry.
@thelaserchannel18 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I have read similar for all the brands around this price point. I have also read where people have a positive after sale experience. In the US especially people tend to complain more that they praise. I haven't experienced bad service from any of the brands- I understand there's a time zone difference and some delayed responses. I know a lot of people reach out to FB groups. There are brands where you would have your own sales person the regional support techs, but those machines also start at about $15k and quickly jump to $30-$40k. Thanks for commenting and I do respect your comment and wish you the best in your laser hobby or business!

@@thelaserchannel1 well said! Would love to have a CO2, it's not about the cost, I just heard so many stories of the ongoing maintenance of these and mirror alignments. I'll see what the next Roly MK3 has to offer, heard from Leo it's going to be a beast and tech packed.

@@I-LOVE-EARTH All the laser machines have maintenance to keep them running great. There's things I like about laser diode and also Co2 machines. The Roly looks nice. Thanks for watching!
