This was, without a doubt, their most personal and intimate, world tour. The reason for the incomplete nature of some of these songs is not because the band played them that way but rather the person who made this recording. He’s a friend of mine and actually turned off the camera at times. He was recording bits and pieces to possibly use in a later video that never came to pass. To my knowledge this is THE ONLY video footage to surface from this final tour. Remember this was pre-smart phone era. It’s unfortunate that the recording is incomplete. However, I am so grateful that it does exist. I saw them in Boston and NYC on this tour about a week prior to this show. They were in their finest form and Liz had just recovered her vocal range after losing it during the recording of Four Calendar Cafe. The intimate nature of this tour was chosen by the band as highly appropriate for the acoustic nature of some of the new songs as well as the 3 song set which Mark Clifford (seefeel) remixed live in concert with them each night. After playing huge concert halls and auditoriums on the 4CC tour 2 years prior the band AND the fans welcomed the small venues. This also made it much easier for die hard fans to stay after and interact with Robin, Simon and Liz as well as the touring musicians, Russell Fong, Mitsuo Tate and Benny DiMassa (live drummer). The band were usually always very welcoming, easy to talk to and even encouraged following them around as tour junkies. I just wish they would release the soundboard recording made in Paris on May 28, 1996, a month prior to this DV8 show. I have heard 5 songs from that recording and it is sublime. The seefeel 3 song live remix set was intended to be a possible cd-single future release. When the band split in 1997 all thoughts of that went by the wayside. Long live the Cocteau Twins. 💜

I was there. It was a small art deco building club, near the Space Needle. An intimate, confined yet vastly ethereal and soundly spacious with these angels playing. They played and my mind stretched to meet the sound. wow

@domiti9481 It *was* called the DV8 (or Club DV8), and it was one of the few all-ages venues in Seattle during its mid/late 90s heyday. The unique building itself was torn down in 2012, to make way another generic luxury tower.

I mean, they fucking INVENTED DREAM POP/SHOEGAZE. One cannot ignore their impact on music, if you do so, you do it at your own peril. They took their early "Banshees" sound and experimented with it and took it in a new direction, and created something entirely new.

This is a treasure. We get to see them up close and personal (in some parts). And some of the songs had acoustic renditions of them like we’ve never heard before. They all look great and sound great! I also love the lighting Setup they have with the different variety of projections.

Long time fan that never got to see them play, but it just occured to me that the studio vocals on those tracks set her up to having to pull off the near impossible when in the road. I'd imagine that must have been extremely stressful. If you don't know, the vocal cords can be unpredictable, and an off night can be a humiliation for a singer.
@billida Жыл бұрын
I’ve seen them multiple times live. Some were really awful ( one on Nancy, France, in particular). Others were Heaven, really. The Zenith concert in Paris for 4 calendar cafe was otherworldly. I still remember her singing Pur and Aikea Guinea like a nightingale. And I was right under her nose lol. It was an experience.

I saw them play at a venue in 1994 that holds about 1200 people. They played at the same venue in 1985. Sometimes you have to do what you can, and this was at the tail end of their touring career.

@eboethrasher11 ай бұрын
BUUUUULLshit. Simply because it looks like a smaller venue doesn't mean they didn't get a decent guarantee. I've booked bands into venues smaller and watched them walk out with $1000 easily, that would way cover gas and food and more. And most bands are fed a meal as part of their rider. They were playing 1000, 1200 seat venues for a large portion of their US career.

They were not a band you went to watch, more a band you went to listen to. You went for the electric experience of hearing that music brought to life in front of you by the band. The same reason you would go see an orchestra.
