Hey Jazza, you should try to use the different types of the cosclay (soft, medium, and hard) to sculpt something like a dragon, the wings could be made of a medium while the body a hard and the webbed part of the wings soft. I personally think its a great idea and it would be great to see it played out in any other way you think it would work.

Stiff polymer clay conditioning tips: break or slice it into a dedicated food processor and chop it up by pulsing the machine [so the clay won't get too hot] You can also use a dedicated electric coffee grinder, but it's real easy to overheat the clay and get it too soft. Some folks buy a special arbor press that repeatedly mashes the clay with more force than our hands can manage. Great tutorial and demo!

Devin Hollis theyre made from high grade polymers, come with the tripod, free shipping worldwide and they have been designed by an artist for artists. Yes I do think theyre a little expensive but cmon its just rude to say theyre made for less than 1 dollar like theyre some shitty product from Wish that was made in a sweatshop, cause these clearly arent.
@commenter4799
@commenter4799 4 жыл бұрын
@@voidsassin7607 the website says it's made from polyurethane resin which, from what I can tell, isn't all that expensive. Looks like one to three dollars per pound. I can't find the weight of the product, but it's probably less than half a pound. I don't know the R and D that went into this, but this "for artists by artists" product is a "for rich artists" product. A tripod doesn't cost much either. It may not only cost him a dollar per unit, but I'd be surprised if it weren't a 500% profit or more on each unit. It's his prerogative to charge whatever he wants. But, as someone with a patreon and KZbin channel, he hasn't made it accessible to much of his audience. Even if it is an expensive skull and tripod, he didn't need to make it that expensive. The FAQ already has what to do if it's damaged in shipping, so it's not indestructible, and if it were, why should it be? You look at it. That's it. Make it durable enough to handle being thrown in a bag, and most people will leave it at the house. Other KZbinrs do gear face offs to show you if expensive supplies are really better, and this guy is charging $85 for a 4 inch skull. I'm sorry if you like him and I offended you, but the fact is the markup on this has to be outrageous.
@ImpactedWhisper
@ImpactedWhisper 4 жыл бұрын
Sure maybe not less than a dollar per, but looking at the model it was likely 3D Printed with an SLA or MSLA printer then he made a silicone mold of the skull and jaw and profited. This is massive upmarketing and a completely unnecessary price tag, I 3D model and then 3D print with a resin printer and something like that would likely cost 30-50ml of resin to make, so even if he used the more expensive UV resins, that's still only around £1.75 per print, given it's a poly resin and likely silicone cast it most likely costs around £1-£1.50 per 50ml, but he'd likely be buying in bulk so possibly less than that. The stand maybe a £10-£15 stand right, but again cheaper as he'd buy in bulk It's nothing amazing, just a regular small tripod. So at most it's costing him per unit around £17 and he's then charged nearly 4x that at £66. But wait there's more because... he doesn't actually include a tripod! Pasted from the FAQ on his website ---> Does my purchase come with a tripod? No, but there are some wonderful and affordable desk tripods you can find on Amazon. So we're back to it now costing him maybe £2 at most per unit and he's upping that by a whopping 34x. Yep "high grade poly resin and free worldwide shipping" is definitely worth 34x the trade cost. Sure you can argue he's charging extra because of the design time, packaging, magnets, or maybe extra because of the initial cost of resin/FDM printing it and the creating the mold, but the mold is 100% reusable and can cast as many as he wants, and to apply a design time charge to every customer is just wrong. The reason this pisses me off so much is I'm a model maker and like to think I charge a reasonable amount given the time and effort I put into the model, but I always state when I charge the initial cost will be higher due to the custom model so I charge design time, but then any print after that is cheaper, example I modeled a 1:43 scale MG Rover 45 (touring) charged £55 initially for 2 shells + design time as it took about 6 hours to model, every print after that costs me about £2 I charge £5 and then + £5 extra as it takes an hour to remove supports and fully clean up, so £10 +(£2.90 to ship) for a model that's 10.5cm long, 4.5cm wide and 3cm tall. You cannot excuse his shitty business practices, it's as simple as that.

I think the cost of the skull to produce is somewhat meaningless in this situation, It's crazy that id he wasn't buds with Proko he would have to spend $85 on a new skull.

I personally love CosClay because of its flexibility. Yes, it can be hard to mold at first, but with a few minutes of kneading, it works amazingly well. I use it for sculpting clothes for my sculptures. Great job on using it and looking forward to more!

Sculpt something using the CosClay, with parts that would be relatively fragile with the other clays. Maybe a cat, or a spider, or something else with little spindly limbs or a tail or some such, for bending purposes. Make one version that's actually well-done (for art purposes), and one that's a quick, low-detail copy (for stress testing), and just bend and drop the heck out of it!
