He is lucky to have you follow in his footsteps…boot steps? And you are lucky to be able to gain experience with things your father has been through. You get along so well. You two obviously love and respect each other very much! You are a very hard working team! Keep doing what you are doing! I am in Ontario, Canada… every once in a while you talk too fast for me and I miss something and I have to backtrack lol… also it took me a few times to realize you were talking about calving (pen etc…)I thought you were saying carving . It didn’t make sense to me! Lmao! Then one day you were actually standing in front of the calving pen…talking about the calving (carving) pen…then I got it lol. I am a bright person but that one stumped me😂 😂 but I am use to listening to you now! Thanks for sharing!🐄🐂🚜🐑🇬🇧

@Phuc_Yhou Жыл бұрын
You're right its technical, the type of mower, as Tom demonstrated, makes a big difference, one size certainly doesnt fit all plus the manufacturers spend millions on the design, testing and production of them. Add to that how many cuts, what height, speed control, weather conditions, labour resources, tractor set up and maintenance, collections and clamp loading, makes it all together a bigger task than some diy flymo numpty on a sunday evening would think.

I wish we had the grass you do . U. S. and Canada is going through a drought. Not enough moisture for grass or seed for crops. This is going to be a pivotal year for farmers here. Feed for animals will be in short supply and expensive. Many are trying to decide whether to reduce or totally sell their herds because we will have to feed hay over summer if the rain doesn't come. We need prayers for rain, if your followers will keep us in their prayers

I know sometimes you think there isn't enough content but we love you and your farm and would be happy to see calves, milking, or just looking at the sheep or cow's really! Can you do a video explaining hay vs silage, 1st 2nd 3rd and what animals prefers? And is this different from region to region?
@nialldaly7108 Жыл бұрын
Thechnically the differance is Hay is saved i.e. Cut, dried under the sun with a few turns so the sun gets at it all, left go mostly non green and rowed up and baled. Silage on the other hand is cut fresh, may be left to wilt a little, brought to a Silo Clamp, packed, Covered with Plastic with no air in there and left to ferment. It idealy should be cut dry and ideally about 11 to 12 in the day when the suggar levels are up. Silage has more feed value than hay but cartain animals like hay better, horses for example. If making hay by choice you would use different grasses than those for silage. Easier to save Stemy hay, hard tyo save green grassy stuff, better suited to silage. Alfafa would be ideal Hay. There is more to it but that is the basis of it all. Old meadows were different to modern fertilised fields. You could cut hay with a reciprical knife Mowing Bar in the old meadows. You could not do that now with modern grasses. In the USA they use a lot of Alfafa. Very thick grasses in UK and Ireland, Ireland generally has slightly thicker grass due to the greater amount of rain from the atlantic but not that much differance. And lastly you need about 3-4 good sunny dry and perhaps a little breasy weather to save hay. Just need a few good dry hours for silage now with current machinery and the speed it can be put in the clamp from mowing.
