I’ve ran a warforged Juggernaut named “Clang” for a while now. He didn’t give that as his name, rather a designation, that being CC-A-495, or, “Combat Construct Alpha 495.” the party named him “Clang,” because that’s the sound his massive footsteps make, and whenever he hits something. He accepted it as his “unofficial designation.”He was a 7 and 1/2 foot tall, slab armored behemoth barbarian. For flavor, the DM renamed his rage to “Target Lock” and various other little bits. He was found by the party outside of a long-deserted ruin of a dwarf city, thought to have been besieged centuries before the events of the campaign. The party artificer, after digging him out of the sand, repaired the damage and got him up and running again. In terms of personality, he is, more or less, a T-800 built to fight undead. He wields a flail with a 15 pound flanged head, and a 6 foot tall kite shield. He became a bit of a party mascot, and the artificer wiled away many hours trying to figure out how she could modify his design. She improved his speech programming, giving him a very slight +1 to charisma checks, and she programmed into him some basic moral precepts, which transformed his personality from T-800, amoral killing machine to, basically fantasy Robocop.

He pretty much was just a rogue/fighter/druid/monk mash, running around and making whatever the hell he needs out of these trees with a very weapon-oriented version of the Plantshape(Plant Shape?) spell. His wooden components were also constructed of said material, which made for some very fun Edward Elric style shenanigans

I like to think so, however, the magic that animates the Warforged is primordial and elemental in nature, allowing the entity to move around and have a semblance of life in a body made of inert matter, so, the primal power to transform the inert matter into a living form is outlandish, but hey, it's magic!

I like to make a character at level 1 and again at level 20 to give me a goal to work towards, so I'm not just fumbling and reacting to every twist the story has. Some people buy castles, Foo upgraded himself to be a walking magic item. He had so many things integrated into himself it was crazy. I wish I could remember them all.

Kind of the Iron Man/Inspector Gadget of Warforged :)
@DruPhred7 жыл бұрын
He put Iron Man to shame, we weren't just heroes, we were SUPER HEROES! He was super paranoid about dying so he had like 3 or 4 different ways to heal himself and a couple of different ways to escape if combat didn't go his way. Don't get me wrong he was quite the powerhouse (on the level 20 character sheet, which was DM approved as a plausible goal), His level 1 "Upgrade" was a Mithral frame, an attaching small shield, and a large Scimitar because of Monkey Grip, which was later increased by enchanting his arms as "Strong Arm Bracers" (this was back in 3.5 and the DM at the time said they stacked), the weapon was sizing so it would be whatever size I needed it to be. He had several embedded magic gems: in the left hand was a black diamond that let him cast a quickened, maximized Disintegrate spell that was Empowered to a level 9 spell and cast by a 20th level caster; he had 5 gems embedded into his chest that shaped like a "V" I don't remember exactly what they did but one was Repair Critical Damage (or whatever the high level healing spell for Warforged was); one was Improved Invisibility; I can't remember the other three, probably a teleport spell; he had his back enchanted with a cloak effect (I think it was the cloak of the web or flying but I don't remember); his feet were like boots of striding and jumping; the underside of his left forearm had a light crossbow that shot enlarging ammo so it shot ballista bolts with self creating "unlimited" ammo; the underside of his right forearm hid away his sword so he could draw it as a free action; and that doesn't even go into what his sword and shield were enchanted with. It was a high magic home brew campaign that had elements from several sources. I'm sad I never got to play him. :(

I had a memory about the magic stones last night and I wanted to share it with you. When Diablo 2 came out with socketed items, my friend and I immediately implemented them into D&D and later, when we got the Magic Item Compendium, when we found out about magic stones and rewrote how sockets worked in our game. Each socket counted as a +2 enchantment and the weapon/armor had to be +1 for the first 2 sockets and +2 for the 3rd and 4th socket, so an item could in theory be +2 and have 5 magic gems in it. I should have made the Warforged with 4 sockets in his "armor"/chest and swapped them out as needed... that would have been very interesting and a ton of fun :) :) :)

So, back in the day, me and my group of friends always played pathfinder. I once had a human wizard, whose name is lost to time, that became a court wizard for a certain kingdom. On one of his adventures he acquired the ability to create living constructs out of whatever materials he wanted. The intention was that these were low level constructs that could aid him in battle. These constructs were permanent, not some temporary construct binded by magic and controlled. So, in the kingdoms time of war against the neighboring wood elves, it asked me to create some sort of battle construct to aid in war. So my wizard got a natural 20 on the roll to craft this specific war construct. Mind you, the kingdom had also given my wizard, basically an armory full of heavy armor, at his request, in order to complete this task. So basically what was created was an 8 foot tall suit of sentient black armor. His name was Alfonse. So, since the end of the war, he basically has been wandering the forest nearby the kingdom slaughtering any wood elves he sees, for that was his purpose in creation. Mind you, my wizard was aligned pure neutral, se he doesnt give a fuck about all of the dead wood elves, he just wanted to learn as much as possible about magic and become as powerful as possible. I just thought it was hilarious that my wizard basically made a warforged juggernaut long before I had ever heard of the warforged as a playable character.

A warforged monk? A man made warforged who was to act as his deceased son (or grandson) but was abandoned , and later found by travelling monks where he began learning the spiritual ways. He then left the monastery to search for his Father and to find his true purpose for his creation and what his future will be. He's around 5'6 wears simple clothing, carries a napsack and with his stuff, and has artificial hair which he was made with and along with synthetic skin made for him by the monastery. He doesn't talk much as he takes his time with such things as communication. He has made it a habit that every dusk and dawn he would sit and meditate on the day and his actions, he would then practice his fighting technique. Ands that all I can think of at the moment for this character.

Was wondering how one might interact with an artificer as I already have written up a construct obsessed artificer rock gnome who would go as far capturing monodrons for research. Your mention of them being soul searchers and protectors made me think that a paladin would be an interesting class. Although is it conceivable one could be a druid when druids cannot wear metal? Can warforged make more warforged, and would they consider anything parents?
@AJPickett7 жыл бұрын
Warforged can be druids, though I have to wonder about wildshape ability.. can you picture them shape shifting into an animal but still being a construct version? That cracks me up. As for an artificer, sure, could go many ways, and a warforged, unless specifically trained in the art, can not make another warforged, so, if they were so inclined to make a new warforged, to be a 'maker' rather than a parent, they would seek out artificers, and the closely guarded, or rare and scattered lore, on how it is done.
@DuskyPredator7 жыл бұрын
You said they could live indefinitely, so it makes me think that if cut off a warforged with the abilities might continue to build an army for an empire that does not exist anymore, and or some sort of creepy Terracotta army sort of thing. Or really their indefinite lifespan could have them act as wells of knowledge in the material plane. Could one have been put in charge of an ancient library and have read all of the books? Be the builder of legendary items, or essentially made its body a combination of magical items.

In my group we have a warforged with unique caractiristics, specifically A. He looks like a robot Kobold, including the small size B. He's an artificer and C. He's a Van Neumman probe (self duplicating robot) sent by a universe overrun by the mindflayers to invade a world that runs on norse mythology, but D. Transitioning to another universe somehow scrambled his memory circuits and thus E. He's our friend and even if he gets his memorys back he's a self aware robot, (because mindflayers have been known to create partially self aware microscopes) and F. While he's only a level 1 now, when he gets his constructs up to 7 HD, they are small creatures in there own right, so the plan is, he's going to create a duplicate then he and that duplicate will create duplicates, then he and the initial duplicate will go off and have adventures while the second two, which have backups of all the important programing, go and build a factory continually making duplicates, and this will act like a clone lab, for a wizard, meaning this character can never die unless the PC, or the DM wants him to

Almost 3 years from the release of this video I am drawn back to it. I've been toying with the idea of a Lantanese gnome that wanted eternal life but didn't want to dabble in lichdom. A warforged whose soul is that of its creator. A gamble that might be a final project or the first steps to immortality.
@tylerdurden33473 жыл бұрын
I have used something similar to that. I used the Black Mirror concept of the "Button" that clones the mind and memories of the person it is used on. This is stored at the core of the mind of the Warforged. Normally, a clean slate button with only basic routines is used... But if a creator wanted to live forever, they would construct a warforged that only needed to have the "Button" inserted and then boot it up. If the button was imaged (like a computer backup) close to the creator's death, then the warforged would know that the creator had passed on, but they would have all the creator's memories from before their death. I would let you do that in my game, and would be enthusiastic to see what kind of experience you'd have.

So he wandered the halls of the ruins soul searching until he found an old library. He found many archane spellbooks along side other things, and basically taught himself magic for the next 40 years or so. Then an adventuring party found their way in The temple, and left the front door open. Seeing an opportunity Quill left the temple with the idea to explore, and catalogue what he found. (Basically what he considers his purpose for his existence.) He found that the ruins were on an island with no way for him to escape. Until he found a man who happened to be the other party member’s patron.

I had something similar in my Loom of Magus campaign world, well a lot of things more similar but I am about to tell you about something really Player Character Friendly: Argo, a hero NPC of one of my campaign worlds who was happily available to teach you certain Mana Techniques and can be convinced to join your party with the right CHA checks if it was against an epically bad bad-guy. Argo's real name, his designation, is ARGO P7B6. That's Automated Robotic General Operative of Prototype 7 of Build 6. He's actually a Movian Empire relic, one of their "golems"... a sentient one. The Movian Empire is one of my many "ancients" story hooks. They were also known as Atlantians, Atlanticans, and (as a slur) Reverse Elves. They were really un-gifted magically speaking but were gifted in all other intellectual things, but I digress. Argo adapted to his world lacking the "technological utopia" the Movians once had once they "defeated the magical barbarians and their barbaric powers"... he existed within the areas that did not see the actual front lines. He was surprised as to how effective he was as a "newborn" ARGO P7B6 unit because he was not yet given an assignment before he was shut down via an enemy ("terrorist") attack and put into storage, only to be discovered by the adventurers that created the campaign world the current Player Characters were in. He was able to teach the skill: Offensive Parry. If you have any attacks left in a round, you can use it when someone is attacking you. When they try to attack, you role an attack. If your blow lands, their attack fails and you do your damage. You can couple this with the Mana Technique: Extra Attack if you have no attacks left and have the Mana Points to do it and have that MP Technique. How is he akin to the Warforged? Well, his origin. The Movians created a lot of sentient war machines to be soldiers in place of their populous and not foster the hate of their dominated absorbed populations when they could produce enough of them. Also, he is philosophically a living being despite not technically being a living being... by AD&D standards, he's a living being. His innate armor was not nearly as good because Build 6 was supposed to be more of an infiltrator or otherwise superior general operative as a thinker and thus had no obvious damage immunity (natural armor). As far as he knew, he was the "best model of the ARGO line" that the Movian Empire did... and was traumatized by his learning that the Movian Empire fell because of factions after learning their Crystonian origins and that the Movians were an extreme minority and... meh... lots of noise too much for a mere KZbin comment. ARGO P7B6 looks like a normal man, he aged consistently and broke down as fast as a normal person, but he used an artifact that let him get normal eternal immortality that turns most people to ash. So, his people are not mass-produced immortal bots, they were mass-produced slaves. They were slaves built for war. He also eats, drinks, and "sleeps". Unlike Warforged, normal spells work on him while the non-living spells don't... only normal helpful spells are only 80% effective. Also, he has nothing to fear from Rust Monsters because he's about as metal as any living meat-bg that's mostly water. He was mostly polymers, polycarbons, and a whole mess of organic-based nano-machines that maintained a high-energy carbon-based cybernetic core... so, he can get energy and raw materials by eating things and stuff. Argo also let me pepper in the possibility of other Movian tech-monsters being a thing and I even allowed my players to be ARGO based characters and gave them a list of Build numbers... they did not have the prototype number because they were built after ARGO P7B6. B6 was Argo's build. If they chose it, they would look like a clone of Argo and could only select his basic build abilities. And on that, yeah... I kind of had my Warforged on introducing Argo and having THAT as a PC option. When players realized ARGO P7B6 was basically what they wanted but needed to do that to level 30 was needed they decided to stop going "I wanna be Drizzt" about it.

5e heat metal would be a bit iffy. I believe Crawford ruled it as not working against a warforged. I believe just because of "target a metal object" and saying warforged were creatures not objects. But honestly it seems like both.

I've always wondered where their consciousness/sentience and souls came from. Does the magic used to create them bring a soul into existence from nothing? If so, that has to be powerful stuff. If not, does it pull a soul from the aether or even a living being and just wipe it to a clean slate?

I think that warforged should/could get a unique curse. That only effects them. That could cause a lycanthropy like effect. A kin to a werewolf, but instead something like a steel predator. I know it's highly unlikely sense warforged are immune to diseases. But it is something to think about.

I just watched your video on "Don't Stop Thinking" where you are talking with CJ and it reminded me of this video which was one of the first I saw of yours. Anyhow...great interview and very insightful to how gaming is culturally different and the also the same as it is in America. I love videos like this...hearing about the cultural differences and all. In that video, you mentioned you are playing a game set in Eberron. What do you think about accents of the people in Khorvire?? For me, I think that Humans of the former kingdom of Galifar probably have various Eurocentric sounding accents like British, Slavic, French, etc. That said, for the Warforged being crafted by humans they all probably sound a bit like Korg from Thor Ragnarok....basically yeah...like the director, Taika Waititi. What is your take on this??

What would happen to a warforged afflicted with some form of lycanthropy?
@BoojumFed6 жыл бұрын
Depends if your world runs lycanthropy as more of a disease (which they are immune to) or a curse. And if it _is_ a curse, then will the lycanthropy you play with override their natural indifference to/ lack of hunger and immunity to unconsciousness to get you a more traditional " _I wake up naked in a field with no idea how I got there and the taste of blood in my mouth_ " lycanthrope; or will the curse keep running into walls where what it changes and alters are simply not there to work with. That may wind up with a 'Typhoid Mary'- type character who is unaffected by what they carry, but are still capable of passing it on to others who are. (I think I'll keep that little twist in my back pocket for potential use at my table, now that we've come up with it...) Personally, I'd probably simplify it all and say lycanthropy (curse or disease) needs a target from the animal kingdom to affect (something that _has_ an 'inner beast' to be released), so they're immune. The guys I play with would get _way_ too into the minutia of how it works for me to have answers prepped...
@princekermit05 жыл бұрын
I know this is late... but one answer occured during two eberon campaigns.. the first was a poorly worded wish spell a player cast. He was a warforged caster who wanted to become a lycanthrope but only during full moons. He didn't specify which one of the moons of Eberon. So I had the wish throw him back in time to when all of the moons were full, which was as the hight of the great war. And I gave him a new disease called the technovirus. Under a full moon he transforms into a construct version of a werewolf and has to make a DC 16, 17, 19 or 30 will save or mindlessly attack and maul other warforged. (the DC is effected by how many moons are full) And.... Eberon has 12 moons! This PC was later killed by the Lord Of Blades. The second player was a warforged who contracted the technovirus three decades after the last war. He was attacked by an unknown warforged under a night in which there were no full moons. It seems that the technovirus has mutated in the wilds. I call player characters and npcs with this condition "Were-forged".

In my game I have a race which Is basically warforged. The whole thing about them is basically a race made as life less automatons for a Great War when souls began to enter There bodies and they began turning on there warlord and unfree "unoccupied" brethren. Now maybe 15-20 years after the war there all mostly out casts as main landers fear the, from those events. And since it a steampunk world there's a law out right forbidding any construct like them to have technologically advanced weapons, which only really go up to guns between flintlocks and muskets to revolvers and old school western chainguns.

my warforged character Lobo has an interesting backstory if anyone cares to listen: Lobo was not always a warforged,infact many MANY centuries ago he was an Eladragon or often known as a "Dragon elf" (race created by me) and was a powerfull wizard and alchemist in his day,untill a great calamity struck that drove the Anciant Dragon elves to extinction,however Dremmer (his original name) had one failsafe up his sleeve,when his body was consumed and destroyed his soul entered a blank construct body for almost 1000 years he was put in a dormant sleep until he eventualy awoke,however there was one problem,he awoke a stranger to himself not remembering who he was or how he came to be and had nothing but a blank formula book and a mace.he adopted the name Lobo and began his journey across the world to regain his memories of who and what he is and rediscover his purpose in life...Lobo believes the secret to his past lies in the power and pursuit of Alchemy. he combines his construct nature and strengths with that of his alchemy to alter his metal plating and costruct body,and will even build a clockwork cannon to fire his more destructive potions like powerful projectiles of liquid bombs. he knows little about this strange new world,and none can answer his questions as they know nothing of his kind,as my character has the distinct roleplaying honer of being the only known Warforged in existance in my friend's setting.

thank you,i take pride in establishing my characters...when i take the time to make a DnD character i need to share a creative bond with them so i go a little unorthatdox and overboard with making them. another interesting thing about Lobo,is how he utilizes and uses summon monster (elemental) he (when possible) will summon an elemental from another plane,not for combat,but whilst resting as he will converse with them and establish trade with them,and enter perminant contracts for various uses. in the last game which i used him it got to this point: in one game,when i reached a high enough level i summoned four greater elementals (one of each type) and entered perminant contracts with them. the water elemental would summon pureified water for our party when needed,or would dive down into deep bodies of water to retreive things. and sell me magical items from its realm the earth elemental would trade me precious jewls and metals and magical clay in exchange for riches from the material realm and favors.(he even taught me a more powerful version of "Shape stone") the Fire elemental was my "demolition and pyrotechnics" assistant. who would destroy obsticals on my command,and sell me "bottled magma" and other ignious magical items. the Air elemental (whom i established the most fevorable relationship with) would summon more air elementals to serve as our parties eyes and ears over many miles...if a rumer of interest surfaced,a danger was spotted or the location of a magical item of interest was found,he would come to me and tell me...with the west wind on my side,i was rarely caught off guard. my direct fighting abilities were so-so when compared to others in our party,but my use as support,versatility and utilitiy made me an irreplaceable asset to our party as i kept us very well in money and suplies ( having contacts with other planes,i made a name for my self as a very saught out trader) these resorces combined with my potent skills as an artificer and alchemist made me capable of doing some pretty incredible things earning us huge amounts of gold for my services woops,there i go rambling lol

Like I say, I am not an expert on Eberron.
@derrickhaggard3 жыл бұрын
@@AJPickett I am. I've been reading up on Eberron and learning about it after I ordered my copy of Eberron: Rising from the Last War. Basically concerning the Warforged the king of the largest country on the continent of Khoravire died and he wrote in his will that his siblings were to see each other as allies that didn't happen as most of the siblings wanted the throne of the entire kingdom to themselves and did not take the oath of allegiance to the rightful heiress their sister who ruled the nation-state of Cyre and instigated a war with her and each other that destroyed the kingdom and lasted 100 years this was known as The Last Great War. Now where the Warforged gets involved is they were created by House Cannath one of the Dragonmark houses and was the house given the Mark of Creation and House Cannath served as weapon/armor-dealers during this war and pretty much sold weapons and armors to every nation involved including their home nation of Cyre. However the greatest achievement of House Cannath was the creation of the sentient robots made out of metal, stone, and wood known as the Warforged with the tech used to create the Warforged being based on tech recovered from Xen'drik and these were created for the sole purpose of serving as soldiers, scouts, spies, and assassins for the various nation-states that bought them during the war. However the war would come to a tragic end when the nation-state of Cyre was completely destroyed by what can only be described as a "magic nuke" resulting in it becoming a corpse-filled magical radiation scarred wasteland known as The Mourninglands this sudden catastrophic loss of innocent lives resulted in the remaining nations ending the war by writing and signing what is known as the Treaty of Thronehold, this not only ended the long war but also gave the Warforged their freedom as per treaty request House Cannath had to stop making new Warforged, along with the sentient robot race finally being declared people not possessions. However for the Warforged life on Khoravire would not be easy as due to being living remnants of a tragic war many many of the organic "races" wanted to forget resulted in unfair persecution, and illegal prejudice, and various other crimes including being forced into indentured servitude, and murder being committed against the Warforged with many individuals including Nolan a dwarf member of the Council of Sharn being strong advocates for the illegal hate crimes committed against the sentient robot race. However there is rumors that Marriex the grandson of the original Merrix Cannath has used the power of the Mark of Creation to break the rules set by the Treaty of Thronehold and started up one of the Creation Forges and is creating new Warforged in secret. But the most well-known recurring villain in Khoravire and probably the whole setting of Eberron is the rouge Warforged Artificer that is known as the Lord of Blades. Now the Lord of Blades' true identity is unknown with the main theory surrounding the Lords of Blades' identity being that the Lord of Blades' true identity being Bulwark a Warforged soldier who went crazy during the Last Great War after seeing many of his brothers, and sisters-in-arms die during this war. Now the Lord of Blades main base is in The Mourninglands this is due to the fact the Warforged have an innate immunity to the magical radiation in The Mourninglands and has set it up as a Warforged nation. Now it has been confirmed that the Lord of Blades has found a Creation Forge and is using it to grow his army by creating new Warforged, along with recruiting the Warforged sick and tired of the racism, and hate crimes that the "organic races" are committing against them with the Lord of Blades' primary goal being total domination of Khoravire and possibly all of Eberron using the notion of "freedom from the oppression, racism, and crimes committed against them by the organic races" as his method of insuring his followers loyalty even though he's shown that he is willing to go to any length to achieve his goal including murdering innocent Warforged who refuse to follow him.

Not really Warforged are sentient beings with personalities, emotions and feelings, and a soul where the personality, emotions, feelings, and the soul comes from is a mystery. The closest thing to the Warforged in Pop Culture is the CASTS from the Phantasy Star Universe games to be more specific Phantasy Star 0 because of this quote "Just because we CASTS don't have a physical heart it does not mean we are heartless."
