new UA Eberron are quite OP (right now a 9th-level rogue with +5 Dex could have 20AC), so I hope they re-tune them a bit, but overall i think the flavor change is a really nice addition.

The Warforged wont have disadvantage on stealth, though that might balance that a bit better. The armor class feature of the Warforged will set that rogue at 11+Dex+proficiency bonus since rogues have light armor proficiency, this is the Integrated Protection: Darkwood core. So it will be 11+5+4=20 AC, at level twenty that Rogue with a shield would have 22 AC. Just about every class if played as a Warforged has the potential to have 22 or 24 AC, with shield, without adding fighting styles or feats, only Sorcerer and Wizard will be less since they have no Armor proficiency without Feats.

I made a character like this with the first UA warforged. Except instead of only being able to shift into creatures he had seen, I instead flavored it as he collected pieces from things he had killed (organs, fur patches, ect...). Then when he wildshaped into a beast form that specimen of flesh would rapidly grow out to cover his mechanical skeleton. Leaving his forms in a grotesque, tumorous, patchy version. It was super gross and super fun.

TBC, despite popular misconception, Warforged are not robots. They are magical golems that are composed of varying amounts of wood, stone, and metal.

@@stellaraevum799 I am aware of what you are getting at but the concept is similar in a literal way since golem is synonymous with robot. But I digress, it's the idea that something that was designed to be a golem and it suddenly gained sentience. It makes roleplaying them interesting as they try to determine their place in the world outside of war and deal with their newfound will. A race that was created by happenstance and is now dealing with the existential questions other races have dealt with for millennia.

To me a Warforged with the right mindset could realize that "I was created as a weapon, a tool of war, but more specifically combat and otherwise life threatening situations", realize this and you open the doors to what you can do, you can seek employment as a body guard, an adventurer, an explorer of uncharted lands. You are built for danger, you were given your battlefield by others, now you have been given the freedom to choose the one that you want.

As others have mentioned, that's already a thing. Eberron as a setting has existed in D&D since the early 2000s, so it's pretty easy to find the fluff online. Which is something you'll need to do, as WGtE is so light on fluff that if you don't already know the setting well then you don't actually have enough info to run a game in it. It's a decent player resource, but nearly useless to DMs.

In the homegrew game I am playing in my character is a warforged paladin created by Dwarven artificers. He really struggles with being raised to worship dwarven gods, have dwarven ideals, but also BEING a dwarven creation. He's trying to both have the faith he believes in but also find his way in this world he's found himself in.

Dwarves dont love their children the way humans do, but rather the way you would love your greatest creation. So I think dwarves would not treat a child and a warforged they built much differently.

Oath of Protection is what he was originally going for. He naturally moved in that direction specifically because he equated himself to a shield and shields are used to protect. Because of story related things that have happened in our campaign he has actually taken up the Oath of Vengeance but I'd like to think he'll make his way back to Prot.

Ouroboros_13 So Envoy is more like a specialist, you get to choose what to put your subclass attribute points into and you get to have a tool profeciency built into you. This adds language and skills Skirmisher is dex and the main thing is you walk faster and when traveling at normal speed you still be stealthed. Juggarnaut is strength and a stronger unarmed strike

I just recently started a campaign with my Warforged character named Sam. Its a basic name but one that was given to him by the blacksmith that took him in. Sam wasn't created in the prime material but in the Nine Hell's by devils. He was meant to be a template for mass production of Warforged in the Nine Hell's. The Warforged project started because of the current blood war and the devils want to bolster their ranks. Sam escaped the Nine Hell's after a raid on the castle he was held in being taken captive by the demons. On the River Styx his apparent power to summon his ancestors (he's an ancestral guardian whose ancestors are the failed models that came before him) manifested and assisted him in defeating the two demons that were assigned to guard him. As the toll was already paid the boatman offered to take him where he wanted to go. That's how he got to the prime material plane. However, as it would turn out in the first session of playing myself and the rest of the party found out that this campaign is set in the Nine Hell's. It's also not just anywhere in the Nine Hell's we started in the Fifth layer which is where Sam happened to be created. Needless to say I freaked out. The only reason I knew before anyone was because after our escape from prison we came across a boatman by a river who looked very familiar to me in particular. By this point I was already nervous because of the climate we were in. So when I saw the boatman that sealed the deal. It also happened to be the boatman that brought me to the prime material plane. After the session I talked to my DM about it and she said she was rolling on the floor laughing when she read my backstory. I've only meet her in the past few months and she's been working on this campaign for about a year, so the fact my backstory turned out this way is a complete coincidence. When we meet again I'm going to ask what she was thinking when I pitched my character idea to her.

This video was helpful to me, because I've created my own version of the warforged for my own world. Rather than constructed for a specific war, they were constructed for conquest by a fire giant with efreet ancestry. He is trying to turn a kingdom of fire giants into his own City of Brass while pushing the kingdom's borders to conquer the world. Part of the story is the fact that he's enslaved Azer, and has found that the azer can create a hundred warforged in the time it takes to craft a singular azer, leading to a big push to turn these new weapons into an army. If the PCs manage to defeat the fire giant, recently freed warforged might seek refuge among the civilizations of my world, leading to a sudden and dramatic consequence to my player's actions (if they take them) that could lead to the warforged becoming a playable race for my characters in the next campaign or if a character dies later in this one.

the most fun thing about warforged...is the fact that you are a living construct,and thus inorganic...it is completely possible to modify thier body,making one of the only playable races you can give new natural weapons to as you progress in a campaign.

My Warforged name is Simon and during the war he was created to serve as an Guardian/utlity Golem for one of the old Wizard of House Cannith. He was never made for war unlike his other crafted Brothers, but to simply serve as a guardian. When the Warforged were given freedom he to was also told to find his place in the world. But unlike his brothers who were gifted in war and very much sort after by other adventures. Simon must prove he can also be of use to adventures willing to give him a chance.

One of the things I did for my warforged character was basically say that Warforged gained their sentience through something I just call Soul Tethering (if you're familiar with Full Metal Alchemist, its a process similar to how Alphonse got his soul transferred to the suit of armor). Where basically a soul from the afterlife is drawn out from the ether or a recently dead or killed person, and their soul gets tethered to the body to grant it sentience and a personality beyond the normal strong tendency towards lawful alignments that they normally head for.

Just made a Warforged character! He was created by an aspiring Dwarf tinkerer to serve and protect him, until House Cannith found out and invaded them. They killed his creator, so he was filled with rage and killed them, ravaging their corpses. When he got to the nearby town of Ebonwood, he changed his name from Menace to Crow Pierce, learning the very basics of Common. He only knows one and two syllable Common words. Also he's a Crimson Bloodhunter.

Going off the aspect that a lot of races might be uneasy about the warforged theres the Lord of Blades to think about. A warforged who never really let go of the resentment that the other races treat warforged as a "tool". Its too bad that adventurers league only allows non-evil alignments. But in your own campaigns with friends you can capitalize on that route if you wish. Keith Baker really made a fun world full of interesting possibilities. Wonder if theyll work on Dael'kyr any or symbionts.

People tend to stereotype the warforged as a robot and that is so annoying. They're a lot more than that. They are magical constructs with perhaps, a sole. I play as a sort of a broken beaten juggernaut that turned to pacifism and is still haunted by the war. He later became a druid. As the DM made a world were powerful builds medium creatures in 5e are large in his world. My character is pretty much a walking tree. His armour is comprised of some remaining metal bits with the rest being covered by stone and wood and tons of liquens and the such. He has 19 str thanks to an attuned item (Thanks DM) , wisdom at 18, a good average on the others and at level 10, he has about 78 HP and far from being a tank, he's quite resilient. It's really fun to play the big lumbering giant that tends to be calm and collected. For now, what's missing is a properly trained and skilled player and that's not me so I'm working on that. Druid tend to be seen as the lesser class and to a point, yes. It is not as flashy as the warlock or as brutal as the barbarian or as sneaky as the rogue or some of the other classes but it's one of my favourite roles...... I also enjoy raging..... and ale.

Trying to find a DM that actually let's me play as either Changeling or Warforged, two of my favourite races, is a freaking nightmare. Which really sucks because the role play potential for these races is REALLY GOOD!!

epichamster96 I've never heard of this ritual or artifact. It sounds like a something a DM would do, not something that would be in an official sourcebook. "Dragonmark" can also refer to the symbols in dragonshards and signs left in nature that hold information about the Draconic Prophecy, maybe you're thinking of those and not the magic birthmarks that sometimes appear well after birth.

In 3.5e (the original iteration of the setting) it's a hard no. In 3.5e, the dragonmarks can only appear, for the most part, on their chosen races. Some rare exceptions can occur, such as a true half-elf (one elven and one human parent, which is highly rare in Eberron) taking a human parent's dragonmark. But this is extremely rare. Additionally, even Aberrant dragonmarks only occur on typically dragonmark bearing races, and it's possible they are caused by interbreeding among members of different dragonmark houses. Furthermore, as Dragonmarks are at least partly a genetic trait, this makes the idea of Warforged having them even stranger. If a Dragonmark did somehow appear on a Warforged, it would be a world changing event that could be the focus of a whole campaign. Dragonmarks appearing on a race has been a way that certain races, like the Khoravar (half-elves that usually only marry within their own race), have become legitimized as a race. This coupled with the social, scholarly, and religious implications of these magical golems being part of the dragonmark prophecy would be a huge game changer.

In my game I DM warforged are a servant class that will do almost anything you ask unless it involves hurting people. In the last age of great wars of magic the warforged were created to be living prisons for war criminals and members of the side that lost. The warforged would give their prisoners inside them unnatural long lives and aware of what's going on in the outside world. If the warforged was ever to die so would the prisoner inside. But now my players have just ran across one who's warforged is breaking down and having the players gather ritual items so he can free himself from the warforged prison.

I was a warforge in a recent game till it all went to hell. In that game world golems and warforge had a war going on and it had ended with no party wining. But I would tell people I wasn’t made for war but adopted to it quite well, as I had social skills and the ability to break into places being a sabotage style character

5:56 gotta say this, robot only has 1 definition that mentions programming and even then its not a definite part of it: "a machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one programmable by a computer." and in a world were magic is the equivalent to technology the warforged would technically be robots, but even just from the origin of the word which is derived from the czech word "robota" meaning forced labor and was coined from a play called "Rossum's Universal Robots" from 1920, and the warforged literally being built for specific purposes and forced to fight in a war id say that how we use the word "robot" would describe the warforged well, but i feel it would realistically be like other words we've had for other people in our world that was chosen for them without their input or consideration like how Christopher Columbus tried to find africa but landed in the Bahamas and wringly called the native Lucayan people "Indians" for example
