Im building toward Focus 1, Burst 2, Critical Eye 4, Wex 2. I feel like eliminating the negative affinity or even tilting it to the positive side is really valuable. Its 50% increase in damage from -ve to +ve affinity. Considering its unrealistic to always hit the weak spot, pulling up the damage in non-weak spot shouldnt be overlooked, especially in 8+ star monsters when they are all in berserk mode

Idk what Niantic was smoking when they designed this bow but the more I think about it, the more incredibly strong it seems compared to other weapons currently in the game. Does it actually get the full special charge rate on charge 3? Because I think that’s something to consider when calculating the dps of this bow

Yeah if you were to shoot a charge lv 4 shot, the pierce 4 dmg is exactly the same for a charge lv 3 shot pierce 4 dmg.

Only issue is that it’s a bow. Usually takes me 7 seconds to slay a 5* monster with a g5 gunlance, but takes me 40 seconds to slay the same monster with g5 galebender. It could just be skill issue I guess.

Hi Shawnzy, giving the Azure rathalos is coming, do you think it is good to correct the -30% affinity to 0%, and the build like that? Azure Rathalos Helmet Pink Rathian Mail Rathian Vambrace Pink Rathian Core Kulu Greaves Focus 3/Affinity 0%(from -30%)/Burst 2 need your help to calculate it is really worth to correct the affinity from -30% to 0%.

It's good! But if you want to, you can also ignore the negative affinity and go with focus 5 burst 3. That is slightly better(even after accounting for the negative crit) Azure rath helm Pukei/pink rathian chest Rathian gloves Rathian coil Jyura boots

It seems like Zinogre Helm and Legs gave Burst 1 each. You could swap out the Helm with the Zinogre helm for Burst 4 and Focus 3, or add the Zinogre legs for Burst 5 but only Focus 2. If only there was a Chest piece with Focus 2...... Also - isn't Focus generally better since you fire shots off faster? It may not be the damage potential, but maintaining the DPS that could be the key. At any rate, appreciate the video mate!

hmm yeah i get what you mean. but the thing about bblos bow is that you already save time by not having to charge it up all the way. not too sure if focus 2 will be enough. Will have to give it a go to know!

@shawnzyplays it seems with both Zinogre Helm and Legs the total Focus is only one (1), as only the Chest (Pukei or Pink Rathian) has Focus 1 whilst the Helm, Gloves, Waist and Legs have Burst. Looks like I should leave the math (and YouTubing) to you Shawnzy!

I have been able to beat a 8 star girros using BD Bow 6 1/5 with shots to the head and build is atk boost 2, rising tide 3, focus 2, burst 2. Have not been able to even do much to a kulu annoying little thing but honestly feels really good luving this bow probably my favourite weapon so far and also tested with part breaker 5 it is very fun recommended for lower star lvl monsters comparative to your bow so works better on a 5 star oppose to 6 star but it does work you just need the dmg so making sure you beat timer and hitting almost on point. For some reason I can get out 3 special shots so long as the first one is available at the start so not sure that's for all of you that use the bow. I am disappointed I didn't record the fight where I beat the girros but hopefully I see one again and can do it like I did this time. But yeah that's my build.

Love the vid. I too crunched these numbers. What's missing is: you didn't show any math for "attack speed" or in this case "focus". (It's very hard to assign factual numbers here because "Focus" is in the form of a % and is not assigned a specific "time value") I too found that Burst > Affinity But using estimations I also "estimated" that focus (attack speed) > everything else! This doesn't mean I'm right. It's "time" to ditch the estamations and assign an actual time value to a base charge and each level of focus so we can get some real maths going. Thanks Shawnzy!

Yea the calculations on focus in terms of time taken to charge and all are done by stampeder and Joseph. They're the real math dudes. I just make lame videos.

how do you aim farther parts of the monster? i can only aim up to 30% in the middle of the monster, same with bowgun, i want to aim the tips like wings but can only hit it when they are down or flying, when they raise their wings i cannot aim very high even with gyro and try to reset

Is your gyro set to semi or full? In a hunt, look at the top right corner of the screen. Make sure to tap it to change it to full

Im wondering would a Part breaker 5 build be strong. I know that breaking part deals a certain extra damage, but Im not sure if that unknown amount of damage is worth the trade-off with general fire power

@@shawnzyplays yeah I think this nerf hits black diablos bow specifically more than other current pierce bows. Electric is still good against wings, and fire is still good against wings/jagras belly… spread is also getting hit for the same reason as pierce but also spread has a way shorter critical range so the range nerf will hit it hard. IMO rapid comes out a winner with a fire speed buff and the other nerfs don’t hurt it too bad. Which is lame to me because it’s the easiest one to use in the first place and they said they’re trying to emphasize skillful gameplay… I think the nerfs won’t hurt poison/the pukei bow much which is what most people are complaining about I think. People will still cry OP and the bow will get nerfed again in a few months time. I think if they want to change poison, they should make the poison elemental value affect the damage so you have to invest some armor skills into it to do the same damage.

How did you double dodge? A perfect evade, then another perfect evade before taking another shot?

You know how you could charge-evade(some calls it charge sidestep)? After a perfect evade, if you were to tap and hold, you will start the animation for charging. Just like how you would do a charge-evade, you can charge and sidestep from that point. Perfect evade -> tap and hold to start charging -> charge-evade so it looks like im sliding around twice before shooting, but actually its not :)

At what attack values does WEX 2 becomes more valuable than Rising Tide 2 (from Jagras chest)?

Rising tide 2 gives 50 attack at 25s and another 50 at 50s. so you get 50attack from 25s to 75s(50s) and another 50 from 50s to 75s(25s). On average, you get 50 attack throughout the hunt. 50 div 0.25(crit chance from wex) div 0.25(crit dmg) = 800. Anything above 800, you're better off with wex 2.

Does anyone know if burst duration (4 sec) is long enough to charge the bow to lv 4 and fire assuming we have focus 3 and we charge right after burst is activated? I want to know if it is physically possible to proc burst on a charge lv 4 shot as I most shots were charged to level 3 in the video

Nope! Rising tide 2 gives on avg 50 attack. Wex gives more(indirectly). But it's a good idea since you don't hit weak spots all the time ... hmmm thanks for the idea !!

@bakajelly2698 heroics and guts build is not something you want to use at all times. Each time u use it you'll end the hunt either in a fail, or with 1 hp. It'll be great to use for urgent quests tho

Actually the smart guys tested it and said that it is actually better not to use powershot. Just charge and fire! I tried to do it but I've been using powershot since my first bow in mhn. It's really hard to switch so sometimes I'll still fire powershot

For black diablos bow, charge 3 shot and charge 4 shot both fires off pierce lv 4. So you don't need to be fully charged to deal the max dmg
