FYI the Blitz Scroll has an odd interaction with the silkbind turret. It doesn't necessarily make them fire faster, it makes them recover between volleys slightly quicker (each volley is 3 shots). Overall it ends up being a minimal gain if they're constantly attacking (which requires you to be constantly attacking as they attack when you attack). The Throwarm scroll actually adds the most damage to a Palamute when doing this setup.

For anyone wondering, Attack Up L gives 20 raw damage, and S gives 10. The same goes for Crit Up: 20% and 10% respectively. A level 50 Palamute with no skills and a 255 weapon will have 335 attack. 20% affinity only gives 16.75 damage on average which makes Attack Up better in this instance for the paralysis choice (even more so for sleep). The highest raw damage I was able to find on a weapon was 295 on Ibushi, and that only got to 18.75 on average. You'll see a similar thing happen with the S versions of these skills, the Raw just isn't high enough to crit to outpace it. Edit: I should probably put clarification: this is only on a skillless companion. My palico's 410 damage (with range up) would put 20% affinity at 20.5 on average, just barely better. I'd need to get back on to check with the dog to see if there's similar results.

Except you're missing few things: 1. it's chance to deal extra 25% damage. There are many variables and depending on your luck it could be better or worse. 2. extra 25% damage bonus stacks *multiplicatively* with other bonuses like ranged attack up, throwarm scroll, deamon powder, etc... Lets do your avarage damage calculation with ranged attack up slotted! 3. there are weapons with natural affinity. Lets do your avarage damage calculation with extra +10% affinity. Anyway I would prefer folks like Shikafu to think for themself instead of providing them with some conclusions.

@@AkantorCZ 1: That WAS taken into consideration. 125% of the palamute's damage was is an additional 83.75, but for Crit L is 20% of the time, so you get 16.75. 2: Yes I had to edit that. For my Palico it was just slightly better than just Attack Up. It Is worth doing your own Calcs. 3: Do the initial one again with affinity? This time we'll do Astalos with 255 and 15% affinity. Assuming no other skills (again), Average of 364.3125 with Crit Up L, and 368.125 for Attack Up L. As far as I'm aware, Crit is only worth investing in if you're a ranged build, and I have no idea how the palamute tool works with its damage or whether it can even crit. If you're melee or bomber (explosives for some reason scale with only melee, even the ones they throw), just increase Raw attack. Not everyone is going to want to go through the trouble of calculating things.

Some people might prefer consistent damage some poeple might prefer surprise in form of sudden burst of damage. 2. ranged attack up isn't only percentage bonus and It stacks multillicatively with *all* attack bonuses. So the difference could be much higher.

My palamute has attack up L, range attack up, piercing attack up, and buddy partbreaker paired with large shrunken and the silkbinder. Teammed up with the skala hunting horn with rally and a fighter cat with power drum and buddy power up. Palamute just casually hits kushala for casual 100 numbers per tic usually hitting for 400 to 600 per shot

One thing to note, the amount of dps the palamutes deal depends on if youre attacking. I use a dps overlay and found that using a switch axe with 2 palamutes they would often deal around 35~40% of my damage but with a great sword because of its gameplay style, the palamutes only did 15% or less. So status palamutes is the most efficient if youre using Hammer or Greatsword.

And if you’re going that route, might as well make it a sleep palamute for GS and Hammer. Of course, your preference should always prevail over what is considered meta

yeah thats something I realized in base rise already when I swicthed to GS, my Palamutes often just barfed and jumped around, just hitting once when Im done with my charge then flip back. with Dualblades they are hitting insanely often

I like using the heal blade scroll. It's definitely underrated as ppl don't know that when it's active, if you ride the palamute and attack with it, you'll heal to full extremely fast. And I'd consider still using support centric to proc heal scroll and silkbinder more often, even if damage goes down. I would assume that it doesn't affect how much status you do. It probably actually helps you proc more, even if their overall dmg goes down. Not that I've tested it yet

For the status options, I recommend choosing based on your weapon as well. You cant go wrong with para in general, but an example would be that bow benefits moreso from status and a GS benefits moreso from sleep. Hammer would be based on if you’re an impact crater/burst. Crater benefits from sleep moreso than burst would

Throwarm scroll is better overall for damage with silkbinder. Another note, silkbinder can wake up monsters, so choose paralysis over sleep in any case.

Ranged centric is a palico skill. So you need to scout a palico with that skill and then palamute to learn from them

Yes, this is awesome 😄 same as my current Buddy setup: Double Palamutes (Gear: Jelly, Silkbind, Blitz Scroll). (Skills:Status,Range Up, Range Centric,Atk up). These 🐕🐕pups ⭐️stun⭐️and silkbind multiple times ^_^ (When I tried Sleep option, sometimes Buddies accidentally wakes up the monster).

I went with a slightly different approach. Ibushi weapon for highest ranged atk. + Silkbinder + Shuriken + skills: Ranged centric Ranged Atk up Pierce up Buddy Partbeaker Atk. Might not be the *most* optimal but two of them shave off parts like nothing else. Great for farming materials

as soon as i got the silk binder turret i was running 2 palamutes, at first it was just because i have a thing for turrets but i learned quickly that as a tank player my hunts were quicker, so i altered the skills and gear a bit and hunts got even faster. Palamutes do WONDERS acting as the sword to my shield when solo. Though i will say i tried using things like buddy friendship and the healing salves that are supposed to heal me when close enough and none of them seem to work, what am i missing there?

I don't know if there's a weird interaction with Buddy Friendship, but Healing Salve has worked for me when riding a Palamute, rather than being near it. Yours is a complicated position, though. I understand you'd rather run two Palamutes, but the Healing Salve can be a bit of a hard sell; it hasn't been all too reliable for me. You might want to consider improving damage, after all, DPS is mitigating future damage.

I use blast weapons and found out that against nearly every monster blast is a good part to use, as such i put it on the dogs with this set up, haven't tested it yet but i will and against something that blast isn't too strong against like a bazel

@@Rhymeruru I ended up play testing it. Didnt track dmg numbers an compared what puts out better dmg. However Setting it up for status buffs, giving the doggo blast and part breaker. The dog completely rips monsters apart. It's very easy to break all the parts on a monster before the hunt ends. So if you need materials from breaking parts I'd recommend it.

I would say if you’re at all in the process of gathering materials to forge weapons or armor, then yes, it’s better to stick with Gathering Palicos as they can almost give you half a hunt to a full hunts worth of extra materials and while Palamutes speed up your run, they don’t speed it up by 33-50% which would be needed to equal the same amount of mats gathered. However if you reached endgame and got pretty much everything you need, don’t really need mats, and are just playing for the fun of the hunt, then it makes sense to switch to Palamutes just for faster/easier hunts. It would also be arguable if you’re mostly farming for Afflicted parts as Gathering Palicos can’t Pilfer Afflicted parts so their usefulness goes down if those materials are all you want.

The gun is from a side quest, can't remember which one. You don't NEED the favoring range perk, but it makes the more effective attacks happen more often.

Palamute gear (silkbinder, throwarm scroll, large shuriken, etc) are not affected by ranged centric skill. Support centric affect palamute gear instead. However, support centric decrease palamute attack power, so its counter intuitive on a damage build palamute.

Theres a sub quest where you need to increase 3 of your buddies to max 8 memory slots. After this you will unlock the "learning" option which will appear in the menu.

Range centric is actually a palico skill, so you'll have to go get a palico with it and level it up to be able to put it on your parameters. Luckily it looks like a lot of palicoes come with it

I haven't tested Blitz Scroll since vanila game but for more status procs Large Shuriken works really well. It's decent backup when Silkbinder is on cooldown. Anyway it's kind of sad that there is single best in slot gear for palamutes. I don't get why melee attacks are so weak in comparison to range attacks. Honestly that doesn't make any sense. Why should palamute snipping across the map deal more damage that the one who needs to chase monster and risk getting hit more frequently. I mean I would like my palamute to be something more that just a turrent but there really isn't any choice.

"Insane" is a bit hyperbolic. They still do less damage than a Gunlancer, but they also still do a sizeable fraction of a player's damage- Ranging from probably about 1/4 to 1/8 as much as a player using different weapons optimally.

Was having the same struggle. The trick is that skills aren’t mutually exclusive to palicos and Palamutes. You can teach palamutes skills from palicoes and vice-versa. So find a ranged-centric palico and teach it to your Palamute from them.

[Repost because I misunderstood the question.] At some point in master rank the buddy handling cat will request that you max out three of your buddy's skill memory. To do this, get nine eurekacorns in master rank by doing certain optional subquests and hopefully getting lucky when sending out master rank meowcenaries. Then go the buddy handler to use the buddy dojo where you can spend them to give three of your buddies three memory slots each.
