18:30 Monster Hunter Rise isn't exactly arcade-like, but it's designed around combat and its core gameplay loop rather than immersion, as seen in Monster Hunter World. Rise features the most intuitive and advanced combat mechanics in the series, with each weapon offering three sets of two switch skills that are interchangeable, dramatically altering how the weapon performs (e.g., Surge Slash for the Great Sword). Additionally, Rise maintains the colorful and uniquely designed weapons and armor that are a hallmark of the series, embracing a more traditional "local village hunter" setting and also brings back popular monsters like Gore Magala, Valstrax, Mizutsune, and Amatsu. Rise also improves build crafting mechanics significantly, making almost all archetypes of armor and weapon builds useful and easier to obtain(ignoring Qurious Crafting) as the game features the traditional crafting of decorations and RNG charms, unlike World’s system. Moreover, Rise boasts fully traversable maps and some of the best-designed monster fights in the series, such as Primordial Malzeno. Many criticisms of Rise seem unfounded. For instance, the fact that it released on the Switch being a issue despite the franchise historically releasing on mobile consoles . Additionally, the "cartoon-like" art style is consistent with the series' previous aesthetics before World. It’s important to note that each Monster Hunter game builds upon its predecessors, striving to enhance the classic formula. If you’re trying to form an opinion on Rise, consider that those who have only played world or played a insignificant amount of time on Rise might not fully appreciate its merits. -In short Rise is 5th Gen classic monster hunter and World is the black sheep of the franchise.
@csg1lcolonel5285 ай бұрын
I'd argue that World is much closer to old gen mh in its continued emphasis on positioning and consequential combat. Rise differs in its comparatively non-restrictive movement and combat, and uses a wide range of invulnerable moves and counters to make good timing the main key to improvement. While the same moves and movements take away from the consequences of bad positioning, combat is still equally fulfilling thanks to resource management via wirebugs and faster-paced combat. This makes Rise an excellent gateway for action game players to get into MH, as well as a way for long-time vets to experience the series in a completely new light.
@rattango98195 ай бұрын
Rise is definitely arcade-like. World couldnt keep the original more colorful designs due to needing to model a better hd model for the next gen console. That's why players were content with what they got for worlds (that doesnt mean there werent any complaints that many of the beloved monsters didnt return and the models for weapons and armors were too boring). While world removed tracking with paintballs, it replaced it with actual tracking for early game and once the player has hunt enough of a certain monster the tracking becomes automatic. Rise however had a brilliant idea of removing it entirely and have a tracking function on an always displayed minimap that shows the whole map. I think when people are complaing that rise is too arcadey its not a disservice, or a complaint towards the game but telling people how they see the game. A lot of people just felt that Worlds had a better display of hunting it self in preparation, tracking and slaying/capturing the monsters. Even during battle with a monster, monsters were something so be respected in Worlds. The camera panning into the fight between two monsters. The third one coming in bombing the whole area. You either take three of them at once, or throw dung to clear up the area. Positioning becomes more cluttered as more monsters come into the battle. In Rise, it felt like most monsters were just spongier bigger monsters as well as a weapon to be used instead of the monster that it is. Positioning wasnt that hard to do due to the forgiving nature of wirebugs and how mobile all weapons are. While most of what I stated about gameplay can't be stated for post-post-game content, but getting there certainly feels more arcadey in my eyes. MH worlds feels more closer to MH 1,2,3 to me than it is 4 and above when compared to rise. It just feels unnaturally fast. I liked both games though.

CB is harder then IG because there is much more emphasis on timing to execute the weapon correctly and there are higher skill ceiling techs like guard points that just don't exist with IG. IG is hella fun but the hardest part about the weapon is consistently gathering your extracts so you can just continue wailing on the monster. I do agree though that hunting horn scares me more then CB does but this might just be me never really giving the weapon a true attempt.
@randommortal33835 ай бұрын
@@kylesmith987 honestly, glaive has severely underrated damage potential. Half of the weapon is the kinsect. Powder type kinsects that are set on auto attack paired with powder vortex can dish out obscene damage. Especially when well timed leading to dunks and enormous burst damage. Also, effectively aerial and ground movesets and fighting styles are two completely seperate things resulting in a weapon with effectively 3 parts to it. Thats my reasoning in saying they're of similiar difficulty. The glaive is no walk in the park to get the most out of, just like CB and GPs.
@vampuricknight15 ай бұрын
My two favorite weapons are the Switch Axe and the Lance but they require very different approaches and mentality. The Switch Axe is all about aggression, you need to play with the mentality that "you aren't trapped in the map with the monster the monster is trapped in the map with you". Its a weapon that rewards hyper aggression and learning the monsters move set so you can take advantage and be even more aggressive without getting hit. In the right hands its one of the most aggressive weapons in the game. The Lance is all about patience, you need to play with the mentality that "you near invincible and eventually... inevitably... you will slay the monster". Its a weapon that you need to learn to block often and early, you need to master your weapons limited move set, and you need to learn the monsters move set. Its probably the most defensive weapon in the game.
@csg1lcolonel5285 ай бұрын
I have the opposite opinion of Lance. I see it as a hyper-aggressive weapon that never needs to back off for any reason, be it danger, positioning, cooldowns, or resource management. Shrug off everything and keep poking in situations where another weapon would either need to dodge out of the way and reposition or use a long counter animation to retaliate at the cost of positioning. Even when the monster tries to flee, just hug its back legs and keep poking. Only thing that can stop a Lance main is sharpness degredation.
@vampuricknight15 ай бұрын
@FullmentalAlcoomist The easiest weapon to pick up traditionally is the sword and shield. It is the only weapon that allows you to drink health potions and use items without first holstering your weapon. Sword and shield gives you the best mix of defense, dodge, and utility. Its move set is quick to pick up but mastering it requires a lot of effort. If you end up not liking it after your first few monster kills then i'd suggest going to the training area (there is usually one in your home or the hub area) were you can test out all the weapons and figure out which move set feels the most natural. I'd avoid the charge blade though... it is renown for being the most complicated weapon to use properly with several meters and vials you need to keep track of which can be difficult for a new or even intermediate player to grasp.

@csg1lcolonel5285 ай бұрын
Literally nothing like clutch claw at all and I have no idea where you got it from. Focus mode has attacks that can capitalize on the wounds you already inflict automatically, and actually synergizes well with each weapon's movepool. The only difference between it and a regular move thay just happens to deal bonus damage on a cooldown is the novelty of being able to aim it. No drawbacks, no need to spend 20 seconds trying to grab onto the monster and successfully use a move without getting hit, just another way for a weapon to make use of longer windows of opportunity. Helm Breaker on LS is similar: always available, but naturally becomes viable over time, and allows you to exploit big windows with a big move. You're just suffering clutch claw ptsd, and I hope you recover in time to enjoy Wilds. 😊

In response to the fluidity of motion he's talking about: the animations get better every generation and it looks they have improved again with what we've seen so far; perhaps not drastically but we can see the polish.
@csg1lcolonel5285 ай бұрын
I think it's less about the animations and more about the hunter's immediate range of motion. After a greatsword charge slash, for example, your only options are to continue the combo or roll in one of three directions (at least, that used to be the case). New players, especially ones coming from fast-paced action games, are usually used to omnidirectional movement at all times and aren't accustomed to having significant consequences for throwing out attacks, so being locked into a limited range of motion (especially with how slow hunters are to begin with) can definitely feel clunky. Once you do master good positioning and conservative movement in Monster Hunter, that's when you realize that the combat wouldn't be nearly as rewarding without it.

When it comes to the guns theres some great guides from Phemeto and AngBata but i'll simplify 1 - Check the Recoil and Reload of the ammo type you want to use. (pick one from Normal 3/Pierce 3/Spread 3/ Sticky 3) 2 - Prioritize getting that one ammo type to low/lowest. 3 - only bring extra ammo for no more than 5 ammo types. 4 - Bring the materials to craft that main ammo type and the gun becomes much easier to manage.

I love the Charge Blade just for the fact you already have 2 very different weapon in one. People keeps saying that it is an expert weapon, but that's only true if you want to use all the extra features like instant block, etc. Using the very swift sword & shield + the heavy & brutal axe is quite simple, and the only thing is to remember to discharge the energy into phials ... which become almost automatic after a couple of hour (you tend to charge de phial even if there is nothing to charge). And once you're confortable with the main features, you wan look into charging the blade (never have to care about sharpening your weapon anymore), position where the instant block is avaible, etc.

You're oversimplifying the use of focus mode greatly. It's not just an accessibility feature for new players, but a blend of some new and past sytems without being clunky. It has so much baked into it like stance changes, mobility options, animation lock workarounds and tenderizing support. All on top of the increased utility that the enhanced aiming provides. You might not use it, I've seen how little you tenderized and tackled in World, and to each their own but I feel high level players will definitely be taking advantage of this in Wilds.

wdym they nerfed blast? The majority of endgame sets in Rise include blast via armor skills because it's incredibly efficient damage for the shorter hunt times in that game. Paralysis is still broken af. Poison is weak but only because monsters die too fast. Sleep is also similarly weak because you lose more time than you gain to setup wakeup for double damage bursts.

The focus mode actually looks neat, like it will open up some of the team play when grouping up. Anyone can "wound" a monster seemingly anywhere if they hit that spot enough times. Focus mode attacks deal better damage to those wounds and also weak spots. For example a team could hit the tail a lot and then have a great sword user try and cut it off by hitting several wounds all in one go.

Asmon really just be yapping and not knowing anything💀they removed the clutch claw tenderize mechanic for focus mode. @csg1lcolonel5285 ай бұрын
"Fast and done" like you don't automatically tenderize the monster for free now. Also, clutch claw finishers seem relatively weak compared to focus mode attacks, so having to spend time clutching to a monster and praying you don't get flung off just so you can wound a part is in no way easier or better than a big-damage move that'll likely be your best option during large windows anyway.

I think that you are wrong about Focus mode, it is not to make the game more accessible to new player. The way Focus mode is supposed to work is like a hunter eye mode, first it serve at making hit more precise on specific parts of the monster with the reticule to aim at that part. By example you want to hit the horn to break it, you go in focus mode and with the reticule you aim where you want the hit to hit. The second use of Focus mode is to show you the weak points of monster that you have hit or as i should say wounded. Here no clutch claw to tender the monster parts, like they explained you just need to hit the weak point multiple time to tender it now and that wounded/tendered part will glow when you are in Focus mode. Also, about Focus strike is just special attack with more damage specific to hit the weak point also wounded part of the monster, like you have wounded the tail of a monster and need a little boost damage to maybe cut it or break a horn. So i think that Focus mode with make the hunt more tactical and precise on where and when you will hit the monster, so for me it's more like adding a other layer to the hunt, so not sure if that will make the game easier to new play, I'm sure though that veteran like me will sure use it to be even more effective at breaking the monster part by part. Just so you know that i know what i am saying, I played MH4U like 3 times, MHGen like 2 time with hundred of hours on them, I got just one playthrought of World/Iceborne but i am around 1570 hours of gameplay. For Rise/Sunbreak last time i check i was at 750 hours of Gameplay. At the end of my time in Iceborne i has mastered 6 of the 14 weapons. So i dare to call myself a veteran when it come to Monster Hunter. Sorry if i am totally wrong in my explanation but that is how i understood it.

@ZhuRan12395 ай бұрын
As an OG MH player from the PS2 era, the accessibility for new players is great...but it also opens up more issues between veterans and new players because of the move towards casuals. In the originals you couldn't move and use items, you didn't have mounts, hunts were harder generally outside of that etc. and World/Icebourne and Rise have made the series quite casual and easy in comparison. All of that said, I don't see it as an issue because I still play mainly solo - and when I play with people it's my friend's. What I think MH and Capcom can do to combat the casual comments and such is to find a good balance between the new casualness with extremely difficult monsters and battles.

7:00 - I fell in love with the Charge Blade on my first character in "World", and though I used a few different weapons over my time between that game, and "Rise", it remained my favourite. Sure; Insect Glaive/Dual Blades look fancy and chip pieces off the monsters, Hammer and great Sword are nice big-hitters. To me, nothing beats the style, grace, and utility of the Charge Blade. Tanky as fuck while staying mobile with the shield/light weapon combo because you can block everything incl. Status effects as long as you keep your stamina up and direct your blocks properly. Smooth animations that have often even allowed me to dodge attacks just by me being mid-swing and hit-boxes being nice. Let's not forget the extreme satisfaction of charging the axe for a full spinning head attack, and watching the charged explosions ripple through the monster as it collapses. People rip on Asmon for only really using Great Sword and just big-dicking it front on. For me, because I had never really used the Great Sword or the hammer initially - I found it a challenge getting used to the slow movement and subsequent vulnerability - seeing him just charge up and swing away like Jaoquin Phoenix in Signs actually inspired me to try the heavier weapons, and I learnt to enjoy them.
