Golden Great Shield. Not so op that it makes the game boring, but 70 guard boost blocks all bullshit design attacks. As it has no skill of its own you still have your l2 as well. Super fun shield.

11:26 storm blade actually got mad busted this dlc, cuz if you have the dancing lion talisman and also wear the headpiece you get 2 boosts to the damage done by it, not to mention you can also use alexander's talisman.

My only issue is theres no bestiary where you can read up on enemies and what theyre strong vs weak against and what (if any) elements or imbued attacks they use. For example, theres a lot of enemies that use attacks that are labeled as magic that dont necessarily look like magic. They arent obvious blue glintstone or carian oriented.

Honestly these games are just poorly designed. Compare them to Doom. That game constantly checks your skill but along the way, it does an amazing job teaching you everything. The dlc is harder and adds two marauders, but it’s feels so appropriate. Doom actually is a good teacher. Fromsoft games are not good teachers and instead expect you to teach yourself through brute force

The idea is to chain your jumps, rolls, parrys, guard counters and everything to make a unique combat sequence. Its like a puzzle fighting game, you keep doing the boss until you know all his moves and their 100% counters. So when you do it all correctly it makes this insanely fun and cool action fight sequence

I still haven’t gotten good at guard counters because I just generally don’t like using shields, but once I started playing Elden Ring like it was Pokemon, it made a massive difference. The resistances some bosses, like Mohg has to fire is insane, and his weakness to bleed is such a big help

they arent s, if you play pvp you will know that spamming jump is a terrible idea and you can get hit airborne easily from many weapons from the ground, its a special state where half of your body enters that makes it so certain attacks ignore that hitbox, thats how from coded most of ground AoE attacks so jump can actually be used in combat, otherwise you would get hit by all those attacks, there are also instances where you simply jump over the attack, because of how tight some attack hitboxes are, like the duelist iron ball thing

You can, watch loopine's video called "Stop complaining about Waterfowl Dance", he shows that even if you are finishing a fully charged zweihander R2, you can just 2H your weapon and sprint away, jumping when she gets close and you just dodge the entire first hit. It's WAYYY easier than the circle run under method.

Also a cool tip: If you dont feel like playing with a shield, give colossal weapons a try, especially the "guts sword" greatsword. Most of them have very respectable guard boost similair to fully upgraded medium shields and very fairly high physical negation. So you can make use of guard counters without even using a shield.

The damage resistance talismans and incantations don't seem to be working in the dlc for me. I stack all the defense I can and the bosses do the same damage. I think maybe the scadtree damage resistance is conflicting with the talismans and incantations. I stack fire resistance up to 80 and a pure fire attack still 1 or 2 shots me.

Another thing a lot of people don’t realize is with a huge weapon like the new meteoric great sword you can block with 60 guard boost and 80 percent physical reduction. It’s super affective for last second and fighting new bosses and better than a lot of shields and I hardly ever see anyone do it.

When I started using dual greatswords as I went into NG+, jump LB/L1 became my primary mode of attack. I noticed that quite often I would jump over an attack that would normally get me, and then punish it while the attack was barely finishing. I then began posture breaking at an alarming rate and most fights became cakewalks. I'm not suggesting I knew the jump meta before others, but I definitely felt its presence in a lot of fights early on. The trick was to play the game like Bloodborne or Sekiro and not Dark Souls. I only found jumping to not be as great against Malenia, Messmer, and Rellana. As they are smaller characters that typically don't swing low....also they just don't stop swinging.

So many miss out on consumables and elemental types in elden ring in their pursuit of maxium poise/ heavy weapon and get clobbered as a result.

Its been a known strategy since at least the original dark souls to not lock on to most bosses and typically youd lock on and off to reorient or to attack if you needed. Most bosses are large enough that you dont really need to lock to hit them.

because they were stuck in darksouls meta, elden ring is different and they ( the elitists ) never figured out the devs and trwon the math around entirely....also consumables and elemental damage+magic ( either sorcery or faith ) solves ALOT, it isn't hardcore enough than go 1 on 1 melee in their heads though. Don't use them much but ashes are your friend if your build needs that bit of a push or you just get stuck. Don't get stuck on a single 1-3 summons...there is a reason the game have over 20 of them.

@@staskozak8118 nah spells give you options...everyone hates caelid but just 15 in faith and you get access to fire spells, various less damage spells, flame clence me ( removes scarlet rot ) anti poison spells healing AND buffs. I cruised throug caelid thanks to faith spells. You can use sorceries to ease it in other ways. Use your tools seriusly it is an rpg and pure melee purists need to leave the darksouls meta behind for elden ring. Or atleast not impose it on others

I have 900 casual hours on this game, I've tried SO many different builds. I've been using these Undead killer weapons against undead, holy pots too. And many other weaknesses exploit. Honestly, From Soft is really nice at giving us so many tools to beat the game. But some people insist on not using them or their wits to beat bosses. Then they complain the game is too hard.

@@Fmakegeo6 Because you have to learn when to use it... it's not meant to turn you into Sekiro, what you're supposed to do is find attacks that you can follow up with a guard counter after doing a pefect block, such as combo ends. The Ongbal video the comment above mentions showcases it very perfectly, if you notice he doesn't parry all time.

Unlike Sekiro, deflect itself seems to do nothing (even if it does, seems negligible). You need to follow up with a guard counter to make any progress. As a result, you can probably get more hits (while being more susceptible to hit) with dodge and attack than from deflect and guard counter. So, it seems to be more like a slightly better version of blocking, nothing as crazy as Sekiro deflect. Secondly, ER, like other souls games, have animation commitment. So if you deflect within a short window after an attack or a dodge, it's very likely that the deflect won't work and you'll get hit. That's something you don't need to think about in Sekiro. Finally, despite being locked on, some of the enemy attacks (Rellana as well, in my case), will hit you simply because they connected on a certain angle not covered by shield. So you might just get hit while deflecting/blocking even with a lock on. So far, exclusively deflecting (and guard counter) seems to be a very slow approach to me (closer to blocking with a shield). Maybe I should mix up attacks as well. Then again, deflects are not as reliable immediately after attack (as mentioned in 2nd para). So, not sure what's the best approach.

Yea I actually figured this out a while back. I don’t roll a lot of the time. I either jump an attack which actually makes me move faster through the air in one direction so it’s good for gaining distance on an enemy. A lot of enemies I honestly just strafe or back up out of the way. Most of the time the best evasive action is just simple movements. I like using rolling to dodge and get into a certain position. I love walking around to Mohgs back too. It’s so funny because you can see essentially keep him in a perpetual turning motion.

That's because FS has had bad cameras in their games for a while. Sekiro is one of my favorite games ever made, but at times the camera in that game is garbage. Same with Elden Ring. Forcing players to not use a core mechanic because the enemy is too large and your camera sucks is a design issue.

If you look at a lot of those jump interactions (like jumping through falling swords), they don’t look like they should work at all and hence aren’t intuitive. Most players who jumped will think they’re just lucky instead of the… actual mess going on lol

Godrick was the fight I realized jumping was so strong. It felt amazing jumping over half his attacks, especially early on in the game when everything is still fresh. I also used a shield and guard counters the whole game, and was never punished except for malenia. Some people are really bad about experimenting. A lot of the items are pretty useful, like it was explained here. I used ironjar aromatic quite a bit when I played with ultra-greatswords. It just lets you beat down on whatever you like.

I could totally see this being the case. Here’s an example from OSRS: there are enchanted crossbow bolts that each have different effects. Back in the day (Pre-EOC RuneScape, so like, 2006-2009), only the sweatiest/best players used or even KNEW about them, but today, they’re ubiquitous. Unless you have BiS, they’re basically the range meta for quite a few bosses. Those bolts would have been meta back in the day too, but the normal/casual players were too noob to know. lol

Rolling is totally viable if you know about the timing. Practice makes perfect when it comes to rolling. A lot of people either press the button too early or too late and end up getting pancaked lol. Timing is everything.

Bleed builds at launch were broken and OP, so why would people switch to something less powerful if they didn't have to or didn't want to as an example. People play how they want to play. This is why I love Elden Ring so much, so many subtle details and things you can do to counter your enemies. The Nox enemies with the whips that ride the ants underground, the Nox are mind controlling the ants. If you throw a sleep pot at them, the Nox and the ant start fighting because the ant is no longer under it's mind control, then you don't have to deal with that combo anymore

But isn't it funny how all these fanboys are out here pretending like jump has never existed in any game, ever, and that it's this amazing thing that FS did that no one else can do. But in reality, it is poor game design. There absolutely should be attacks you can jump over, but most of the attacks he's showing are broken. Try jumping over a thrust attack in Sekiro. You could be 10' in the air above the actual attack and still get hit. I would argue that could also be seen as having bad hitboxes, but there it's intentional to make you do a mikiri counter or something else. They specifically don't want you jumping over those attacks. But of course ER is so good and nothing it has in the game has ever been done before, by anyone. Ever. In the history of the world.

No wonder my jump attack str build made my first playthrough so easy. All I did was have jump attack talisman, turtle stamina talisman, ruins greatsword, greatsword, and armor with lots of poise. I was the true jump L1 warrior.

I've been under the impression that anything that you can do to get out of the way of an attack works.. Jumping, rolling, running, back stepping, using skill as defense like Bloodhoud step, raptors of the mist.. This game really lets you play it how you want to, basically create out own mechanics..

Newbie question here, because I used rune farms to get 187 back about a year ago but never actually tried to GIT GUD until now. Is it logical to learn to combine dodge rolling with jumping? I saw some guy showing a slap button technique to avoid panic rolls, maybe that's the secret sauce? I wonder if it's possible to get good at parrying, guarding, jumping, maneuvering around the enermy and dodge rolling? Maybe combining everything can make you basically unstoppable once you know the patterns? I donno, I'll be lucky to beat the game with a perfect build, armored to the max without fat rolling and some maxed summons.

With the frist fire guardian you get the upgrade for marikas vial that lets you play like in sekiro, you can just parry everithing by blocking even if you are using a dagger, you wont get any damage. You wont need to roll unless there is an explosion or something.

As a side note, the crystal guys you were referring to are weak to ANY strength weapons provide they do high poise damage. With great sword for example basically 2-3 jumping R2s poise break.

I was selling everything, ashes of war, spells, incantations even weapons after I decided to use bloodhound. 100 hours into the game, and now I'm stuck to that final boss altus plateau. I also did the mistake to reach endurance to level 40 and vigor to 70 instead of stopping to 60. Dexterity is 50. Should I start a new playthrough if I wanna beat the game?

For the holy pot on the deathbird, yeah it can be 1 bonk. But checking his talismans that do extra damage on consumables or pots is recommended. That most likely is getting a on hit. but i dont remember. And on which deathbird. Plus I dont recall if pots scale with stats on anything. I do know I watched a consumable only playthrough once and this is where I remember seeing it.

Most thrust attacks in dlc are jumpable. You can easily react to rennella's delayed thrust and punish with jumping heavy, yes, she will do follow ups, but the first one will miss if you just stay there

To be fair, they do make it clear some attacks are low sweeps so you can jump over them. But you can also roll away from them, so its easier to just spam roll rather than switching between jumping and rolling ir spamming jumping.

I see most people also still use the lock-on target system, which makes fights harder than they should be, the moment I started jumping and not having lock on I saw how weak enemies actually are, most of their attacks don't even aim at you if you're moving without lock-on, you can fight someone like Maliketh who usually launches barages of attacks that you need to focus on dodging, with just moving to his right while sprinting and dodging all the attacks by default. The DLC reminded us we can't just cheese the game anymore, you actually gotta play properly this time around, unless you want to spend weeks on bosses.

I learned to use jumping on Crucible Knight at very beginning of game when he stomps the ground =/... I'd just jump it then immediately setup for the easiest parry.

I found you can use Hoarfrost Stomp to trigger Malenia's waterfowl dance from a distance. If she hasnt used it in a bit, you can run really far from her and stomp at her (not always triggers but she will either do the waterfowl dance or a slight charge at you so keep stomping till she does) and let her do the attack, then stay away from her right after cause she will follow up with another attack right after finishing. But this will make it so she doesnt use it for a small amount of time and gives you time to attack without worry for it.

I noticed this primarily with Rellana in the new DLC, I was spamming Jump attacks and was so confused how I just wasn't getting hit lol
