I remember watching this video before I bought the game, and seeing how cool it was; the weapons, the armor, the monster. So I bought the game and started playing it... and then I realized that I was the same weapon as Ruikhan, I was fighting the same monsters, wearing the same armor. I found it so cool that I was on a similar level. I don't know how to describe it but is was awesome. Thank you Ruikhan for helping me enjoy and appreciate this game.

Very nice video! Question for you, does the colour of phials effect the amount of charge you get for your sword and shield. For instance is it better to wait until you are about to start bouncing to charge your sword? Or have full red phials before charging your shield?

Actually you get 1 phial per sword swing that connects, so 5 swings and reload

One thing maybe worth mentioning about charging the sword - the only requirements for charging the sword is to have the shield charged - you can have 0 phials and a white phial gauge and still do R2+O > T(hold) and the sword charge will still work. Obviously you'd rather be charging phials when you're doing it, but in a pinch it works fine as long as the shield is already charged.

To add to this you can keep your sword and shield charged with 0 phials as well. Makes it easier to keep the buff going into multiple different fights easier as you charge them up in between as long as you charged the shield.

Phials affect the duration of the Shield charge (30 sec per phial). The Sword charge however always lasts for 45 sec regardless of phials.

When you're in axe mode u can hit triangle and circle to do the amped element discharge right away and right after you do a guardpoint u can hit triangle and circle to do the same

This tutorial was beautiful. I am a HR 50 player who only played dual blades, hammer and long sword before attempting this... simple weapons. After searching for tutorials on charged blades for an hour I found this and am now a charged blade player after 30 mins of watching. Love the streams. Keep up the good work Ruri!

Thank you, the one and only charge blade tutorial that actually explains anything not just shows flashy combos without button prompts. Why in the holy hell one of the most important moves to this not even listed in the tutorial and require an animation cancel....

It is though because you are canceling your discharge animation into it ( referring to the shield charge), just like the sword charging move, but the real issue I had with them was without these guides there is no way to learn these as they are vital moves to even the basic use of the weapon and they are not even mentioned in the game, maybe for a split of a second in the middle of the phial fill and discharge animation but I'm not even sure of that.

I started this game with dual blades, then went to sword and shield, and now I've started using this finally. It's such a good weapon. Really I wanted to use it the whole time but I wanted to get a grip on monster Hunter in general first and now that I have God DAMN this weapon is so satisfying. You just wreck monsters like it's nothing sometimes (as long as you know your monster and know your moves). This video made it so easy for me to learn thanks Rurikhan! Rurikhan thanks so much for this video, it really helped me get the fundamentals down for the charge blade. I don't know if you knew this, but after I found out something neat for setting up that S.A.E.D. After you do an overhead axe swing you can roll backwards for set up, and immediately go into it. Your character will stay locked facing forwards even though you rolled backwards. This enables you to get that full S.A.E.D swing damage in because of the better positioning! Thanks again!

I'd like to point out something you didn't go over that I think is very important to know. While attacking in Shield you can press Direction+O to Command Dodge (game says it's called Sword:Sliding Slash). I don't know how strong the invincibility is on it however I've never been hit while doing it. It's really good at sliding under and around attacks that your Step Dodge just can't get around. It will always end with a Spinning Slash so keep that in mind when the charges are full. Also on still monsters/downed monsters Charged O>Triangle+O can loop into itself making gathering quick phials really easy. Last but imo most important, phials effect the Guarding Frames of attacks in a much better way than most people know, especially Impact Phials. If you learn how to use the Guarding Frames properly while your shield is charged you can KO a monster for a free discharge on their head. It's very important to know your phials as you can abuse them in different ways. It really makes Charge Blade shine in many different styles of play.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi The Super Discharge? Abit new to the names since they just added them. You can't change the direction of your strongest discharged once you start it. I usually aim for my weapon to miss so all the phials will hit. I might be using it wrong though. I hope it helps ether way.

I am still getting to learning CB and so far fighting the Rathian and dying hilariously 😅. Only the morphed axe mode can hit its tail , otherwise I have to use sword/shield to be mobile and try to hit its head

Good video man. Ive been using the Charge Blade since the beta and man-o-man it is very technical and very satisfying when you hit a monster from head to toe with the elemental discharge. One thing i did get out of this video that i never do, which im going to try to incorporate is axe mode. It never came to my head charging my shield and then using axe mode to do damage to air monsters or a downed Rathalos, and trying to break something quickly. Good vid man.

I use the Hammer and the Kinsect Glaive most of the time. For people complaining about how complicated the Charge Blade is, but want to do massive damage while still having some mobility, the Hammer is fairly easy to pick up. I tried figuring out all the diffent combos, but I didn't realize that I actually had to interupt an attack I was already doing to unlock an entirely new mechanic of the weapon. One shortcut you didn't mention: when in axe mode, you can just press triangle+circle to go straight into the (super) amped element discharge, without having to do the circle attacks first. Also, triangle and circle attacks can be mixed together in axe mode. Since the second circle attack does more damage, you can do triangle, then circle, instead of circle then circle, to save yourself from using a phial. Lastly, after any attack, you can do a side hop, by dodging to the side, and after any attack (or a side hop) you can push the stick in any direction and press circle for a sliding slash. This attack has a guard animation at the end, and so does the 3rd triangle attack in the sword and shield chain, or the triangle attack after the hold-circle charged attack.

Few more tips on using the charge blade: after charging ur phial, u can press O again to go straight into the first phial attack and following the blocking animation (guard point) u can press △and o to get into amped elemental attack.

You're the first person on KZbin I've seen talk about the charge move (circle button) in sns mode with such great detail... I never knew how important the timing was and was wondering why everytime i tried using that move it looked so lame and ineffective. I wish there was an easier way to charge your shield (i heard best way is right after r2+triangle gp, but that is tough to pull off), but cb is insane as it is so can't complain. So couple things like if you want to charge your phials and there are no monsters around get your teammate to hit your guard and your phials will charge another this is when your in ace mode and a monster scream staggers you mash the amped discharge and it will come out much fast this may be a bug but I’ve done it multiple times to counterattack a scream and it helps a lot also gets you killed to so know when to use it.

Also another thing about the charge blade is you can instantly go into the amped element discharge (either one) right after charging the phials or at any time really by clicking Y+B at the same time while in axe mode

Having phials stored during the super amped discharge will determine the size and range of the last hit. 0 is just a powerful melee, 3 adds a single row ranged elemental discharge and 5 sends the blast out in a cone shape if it's an elemental phial type

You can go straight into an SAED directly off a guard point by pressing tri+circle it’s one of the primary reasons to use a GP. Also a more efficient version of your final combo from a positioning perspective is sword charge, fade slash backward with circle followed by an SAED.

You missed a few things. If you think you don't have enough time for a super amped discharge but you're in the animation for starting it up, you can pull back and hit triangle/Y to do a normal amped discharge and only use one phial. Alternatively you can refresh your shield charge by hitting R2/RT. You can also go straight into a (super) amped discharge in axe mode by hitting triangle + circle /Y + B at any point. Those blocking frames on certain attacks are called guard points, and any input while in the guard point animation will put the weapon into axe mode with the appropriate move being used INCLUDING (super) amped discharge.

Also if you critical block using the block frames you can press circle+triangle to immediately go into amped elemental discharge. It's a great way to retaliate after a block.

You can also go straight to AED or SAED after guard point(the blocking animation) too by pressing Triangle+Cricle after successfully blocked the attack. This make CB really good at counterattack the monsters. You can do this with just normal block too as long as the your character don't lose the balance after blocking the attack(that might not work against the heavy attack that blow your character way too far.).

You can still use AED with red shield if you hold back (it is dependent on where your hunter is facing) instead of blowing all your phials on a whiff

I'l be coming back to this video when I decide to use this. Thanks for the tips. I'm using the Insect Glaive as my first weapon and really enjoying it. I like the idea of the kinsect as a secondary weapon and have figured out a few things just from playing. I like to try and get my 3 buffs and then hit the monster with the back of the glaive or shoot it and just let my kinsect go wild with the dust. It's been great when I respond to SOS flares so people can hit them themselves for ailment damage or for healing. I love it when there is another person using it and we're both flying through the air hitting the monster at the same time, it looks amazing. This is the first time I've really played MH. I tried one of the older ones and didn't really get it but I'm addicted to ths game. Once I have all the Glaives and Kinsects I think I'll try the Switchaxe next after watching your video on that and then maybe try this one after I have mastered those.

im glad i chose this path of weapon, this is now my fav wep to use now thanks for the guide it was hard to figure things out at first but i had to understand the things to PC keys. thanks again

Took me forever to get the hang of this weapon, but as soon as I did, it become my favorite by a wide margin
