One important thing for new hunters - STOCKPILE ITEMS. During the early missions of the game always grab supplies from the Item Box and use those. Doing so allows you to save up on your normal Potions, Meat, Etc. Traditionally, one you reach High Rank/G Rank the game no longer supplies you with items, so if you aren't prepared or used too many items then you'd have to go out and purchase/farm more which is no fun.

The cost to forge plus value of the item is less than the cost to buy and I doubt anyone’s going to be regretting the use of a single small bone or iron ore.

New players should make a habit of stealing everything from the supply box on solo outings (not in multi lol). You cant keep things like firat aid meds or any EZ items, but all that ammo, empty phials etc can be stores in your box for when you decide to try gunning. You can very quickly amass a stockpile of your basic ammo types and gunpowder by doing this and harvesting everything you see in the world. You should also ALWAYS have something cultivating in the botanical research center once it is unlocked. Either might seeds for money, or stuff like honey that is used constantly for crafting. Low rank is nice enough to give you supplies but traditionally high rank doesn't get any until a random time in the quest (not sure 100% on world yet, still working there) so it's best to start stockpiling now to avoid having to farm mats later. Finally the crafting list has a very useful feature now where you can set specific items to auto craft in your inventory, take advantage of this out in the world to craft ammo, potions, etc on the fly.

You have to select the weapon you want to upgrade. For example if you select iron katana l but you want to get a bone shotel ll that won't work.You have to select Bone shotel 1 and than you can upgrade this to bone shotel 2. Note: if you have the wrong weapon selected it should say" Cannot upgrade this node" When I started I got stuck on for a long time. I rlly hope this helped

Should I always go for forging a newer, better armor piece? Or should I prioritize upgrading? I figured that newer armor sets would, in the long run, overall have higher defense; why would I want to spend materials upgrading older sets, aside from wanting to have specific elemental resistances?

skills. Some older sets will have better skills than new armors you may have unlocked, so that's a pretty good reason. Materials can always be farmed back. I say forge only for skills or looks. making armor for small defense increase but with bad skills or is ugly is worst then spending a few spheres I would say.

simply get the materials, which is usually by just progressing story. you've eventually unlock everything by just facing new monsters or gathering new materials from new maps so yah, just progress :p

im so confused still, i main the insect glaive and im just using the bone III glaive but as im fighting bigger monsters its not really getting me anywhere as it takes me 30-40 minutes to kill one monster and the game gets boring. i want to get bigger better weapons but the upgrade tree wont let me upgrade anything.

I have the bone hatchets III and I'm trying to get the madness pangas I from the Jyratodus tree. I have all the mats more than enough currency. Everything is in white except the bottom it says cannot upgrade node. I can only forge the 2 beginning weapons. When I go to the "zoom" tab it says a can't do anything but rollback an upgrade. What am I missing? I do have my latest weapons the bone III equipped. The only thing I can think of is I have to upgrade the entire bone tree before going to another?

xodus 9 no, you need to go back one level to bone 2, then you can upgrade to the jyrutodus dual blades

My only question is about the tree. The parts that have "?" Meaning not found yet, does that mean it's from an area you haven't been yet so you can't collect it till you've been there?

just means you've never gotten one of the parts needed. Could be gathering stuff, could be monster parts. if it's monster, it could be you need to fight certain monsters more to get the parts needed. for ore or bones, yah, usually gated by area/story progress to be able to gather.

How do you find out the unknown or question mark parts for some gear for crafting?

just progress, kill stuff, gather, etc. the only way to find out is if you actually get the part. Sites don't have much info yet, so you mostly have to go in blind and just hope you get a missing part.

You need to go in order of the tree, so you'd need to have the prior form. You also need to pick the actual weapon you want to upgrade from the box when it shows the box after selecting "upgrade weapon". Its kind of annoying.

As a Monster Hunter, I forge even the basic set of weapons I use. Why? Iron and Monster Bone Small floods the material box so quickly that it just is cheaper to craft them, than to buy them. (It is like 180 zenny difference, not a huge deal, but it is just what I do.)

Romas411 for capping lure the monster into a trap when it is weak (limping) and hit it with 2 tranq bombs. To craft traps its trap tool (purchasable from the vendor) and either thunderbug for shock, or net for pitfall. (Nets are made using ivy and spiderweb, both found out in the world and all purchasable at some point inbthe story usually). Tranq bombs are sleep herb + parashrooms. Low rank quests will give you the trap and bombs for the capture, but it's best to start stockpiling early because high rank traditionally does not.

Romas411 as for elements, different monster resist different ones. You can look at the armor sets to determine weakness or check out the monster feild guide in your hunters notes, it will indicate specific weakness once you have enough research on the monster.
