Yep, like you said, I'm not looking for a Sim but I'm also not looking for the ridiculous physics of older MJ games. As some comments have pointed out, it looks great in some respects and also ridiculous in other departments. I don't want to be able to do backflips just willy nilly. ST series was guilty of that, looks like Showdown will be guilty of that too. I appreciate that they're adding in air control because those big beasts can do that, it's just WAY out of reality. I don't mind SOME wacky-ness, I just don't want utterly immersion breaking boofoonery. The power sliding looks great, the way the trucks crush under acceleration or braking also looks great. The camera shake helps with the feeling of weight. But then you see things fall apart with freestyle. I ain't no game designer but I can imagine there's a ton of stuff working under the hood to make the stunts and stuff work with the physics engine. But there's no denying the devs can iron and polish it out. Also, I have yet to see the trucks really bounce from heavy jumps. That's a cardinal sin if you don't have bouncy monster trucks; they wouldn't be doing all of these stunts if they had independent trophy truck suspension. We've already seen a Monster with independent suspension and it's kinda boring to watch. Ultimately this is what I'm hoping for; we're watching very dated gameplay of a dated build. Which is, I would say, 100% likely. Your "alpha" isn't even really a legit "Alpha" and neither are "Betas". Also it comes out in 3 months so we're likely getting close to Crunch Time or, hell, we may very likely be already there. And, yeah, like you said, I still really want to see gameplay that isn't just super fast cuts.

Very well thought out reply. I couldn't agree more. Some wackiness is totally OK, but just like in the movies, you can only suspend your disbelief so far before you're like "OK, that's a little too much..." I think you're exactly right, the footage we're seeing is out of date and HOPEFULLY the current build looks a lot better than what we've seen so far. But yeah, it is crunch time. The game has likely already gone gold (final build before they start burning physical media and shipping for launch) and unless they have some huge patch on launch day, there better be a lot going on behind the scenes that we're not seeing, or we may be in trouble!

Not sure how to feel. Sometimes the physics look awesome(like in most of the outdoor racing gameplay, the website clips, and the trailer), other times I can't help but think that it's treating the trucks like toys. The graphics aren't too bad, then again I'm not really a graphics guy. As long as it looks decent, I'm usually happy. The roster of trucks is the best we've had, and while I believe the Megalodon freestyle clips are just their accountant holding the throttle while finishing tax reports, that Grave Digger clip is concerning. Not just the physics, but also that if all the outdoor racing has a supercut like that, then one of Steel Titans 2's strongpoints is going to be weak. Thanks for getting the TikTok footage! Would love to see more of the game in a longer format. Maybe a game mode showcase trailer, like Urban Assault or the original Monster Truck Madness trailer. Sorry about writing an essay, just hoping this one isn't inactive online like Steel Titans 2.

From what I've learned, the game is obviously still in development and they're hearing and working on many of our concerns. I'm not sure if they're really understanding the root of our concerns though.

IMO, this game looks like it is taking a step backwards from MJ Steel Titans 2. The physics look incredibly arcade style and very unrealistic, floaty, stiff, weird bounces etc.. I feel Feld has completely done away with any attempt to make this a "Sim-Cade" game tailored to a wide audience and has marketed this for kids as you see in the driver vs kids videos. The reality is the kids that you see in the videos do not care about the realism, and of course Ryan Anderson will say it's the best game ever, that is what he is paid to do. IMO, there is no reason why this could not be a Sim-Cade style game that can be played by kids, but also be realistic and challenge adults as well. A perfect example of a great Sim-Cade game IMO is World Of Outlaws: Dirt Racing which can be played by everyone. The game was hugely praised by the Dirt Racing community, and they are releasing a 2nd game. After many years of these swing and miss Monster Jam games, I am not sure why this unrealistic approach is always the way the MJ games are made.

You have a lot of fair and valid points. I too would like there to be a wide range of accessibility in showdown. While I agree that kids don't care about simulation (upgrading parts, managing crew, i.e. the minutia of motorsports) I do think kids instinctually do care about realism. They can tell if a truck is moving in an unrealistic way. I do think there should be driver assists and handicaps in place to help younger players do the cool tricks that they see on TV, I don't think anyone, kids included, want to see monster trucks flying through the air like superman in unrealistic ways. I also agree that you would think that FELD would have learned their lesson from Steel Titans, but, as I said in the video, I am keeping a healthy dose of optimism. It's got to turn out better than the first Steel Titans did!

@@ToucanPlays Well said, I think we are on the same page. I want this game to succeed, just the physics have me worried and can make or break a game IMO. ST1 was super unpredictable and you could cartwheel multiple times at any moment. ST2 was a lot better, but you could not slap wheelie and had to land in a wheelie. Beyond having realistic racing and freestyle, I think the offroad tracks are fun and should be included, it's a video game. But this continuous approach of Mario Kart meets Sonic the Hedge Hog type course tracks, then lets thrown in Monster Trucks has been the repeated main ingredient of these games. That was a great run, especially with how awful the physics are in ST1. And yes, I completely understand the amount of control it took to keep the truck from spinning out wildly. For the most part it was very realistic too, just a couple wild backflips and that one crazy front flip! I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a hard time doing slap wheelies!!! It's the stiff suspension! That's what I'm worried about in showdown, it looks even more stiff then Titans!

Mine does that too... If you're using a controller, click in on the right thumbstick to reset the camera, that usually resolves any whacky camera issues for me.
