I recall being really wasted on acid with a buddy of mine back in the good ol 90's; middle of summer in SUBURBIA and his street backed onto about 100 acres of forest at the town limits...we both put a copy of TAB in our Diskmans and went for a walk in the woods under moonlight. As we got deeper in the woods we became hopelessly disoriented and got lost. Stumbling around, fuckin shoes all muddy and shit, cryin and laughin the whole bit. A truly inspirational tribute to the word: "Psychadelic". Something that i heard when i was 17 (still a virgin psychalic mind), this brought me to that chaotic beautific love i needed to be in half an hour. Pure perfection that cannot be rivaled. I play this track to friends and even now they wonder where they've been all these years. To them this song is like starting all over again, ALL HALE THE MAGNET

sometime in the 90s, in some cruddy campground (just a big clearing in the woods, basically) with around a thousand other "campers" on that May 24th long weekend, I dropped some liquid acid in my eye, and sat down by our campfire, after cueing up this song on repeat on our very adequate stereo system we had set up. I then produced a garbage bag that my friend & I had filled up with our latest harvest of primo BC bud, and started rolling.

This is not and they are not "stoner rock" this is literally space rock. SLEEP is stoner rock. Every stoner rock song is just super fuzz on top of fuzz on top of overdrive pedals and GREEN amplifire. Every song is just fuzzed out dronning guitar and lyrics usually kinda have a chant or cadence to it. Space rock sings about cosmic shit alot of reverb and echo and delay guitars are pretty normal as I heavy rock sound but not like Sleep. Space Rock birthed stoner rock. Check out lemmys band hawkwind before motorhead. Listen to "Sace Is Deep" you will basically hear late 60s early 70s monster magnet sounds. Not trying to be a snob but every one makes that mistake and Space Rock gets forgotten and called Stoner . It was stoner rocks Dad😅. Space rock is to awesome to be forgotten and misidentified. Think about all those space travelers that died for our listening pleasuwe. Can we can't just leave them floating out there forgotten LOL Also, I've literally heard Dave say in interviews. Mcbain is one of the legends, right up there with Jimi and Tommy Bolin-at least for me.

Absolutely. I hate to be one of those people, but after McBain they definitely got less experimental/psychedelic. Ed Mundell is a fantastic guitarist, but the material suffered from McBain’s departure. The long spacey drones were mostly replaced with kinda schlocky borderline “cock rock” elements. McBain-era MM had an unique sound and pushed the envelop musically. After that, while they’ve never been bad their sound got streamlined and sounds like any number of “stoner rock” bands following the formula. While they are certainly amongst the pioneers of that genre, after Spine of God they lost a good part of what made them unique and great in my eyes. The focus changed from an ensemble exploring the outer reaches musically to more traditional song structures and Wyndorf’s “character” and singing became the focal point. Oh well, at least we got TAB.

@@Tyrannosaurine 110% agree with you. Monster Magnet Without McBain lost the spacey jammieness of it. It would be like Yawning Man without Gary Arce. I always said that Queens of the Stone Age should’ve kept McBain along with Alfredo Hernandez and gone a much more stonier spacey jam direction. You can hear that on the early Qotsa demos.
