Monster mangrove snapper on the surface!

Fishing offshore in the Gulf of Mexico we found a school of very hungry and aggressive large mangrove snapper! Using 40-pound Shinsei Fluorocarbon and freelined live bait we had some amazing bites. When the surface bite slowed I showed how to get them using cut threadfins for chum.

Favorite type of fishing. Had the same thing happen a few weeks ago. Biggest mango was on the flat. Question, every video shows scamp but I've never caught one and don't think I've seen you on video either. Are they tougher to catch? Keep up the great work

Scamp are pretty much everywhere. They aren't quite as aggressive as other fish. Usually we get them first when other fish aren't biting or last when everything else shuts down. Most of them are on jigheads pretty much to the bottom.

Is that a go pro you send down to the bottom or is it something else? I have been trying to figure a way to see the bottom other than a sonar.
