Hi Kevin :) I think you shouldn't cut the runner yet. The best way is air-layering each node in sphagnum to root them, and when it will grow a lot of rooted nodes cut it into single node cuttings and they will grow new grothpoints 100x faster. i bought a unrooted node 4 months ago and it is not growing for me, so i bought a rooted cutting with small leaf and she is currently pushing out the first leaf in my care in leca ^^ I cant wait to see it grow.

For whatever it's worth, my growing tips: keep it in lower light (I struggle with this too) until you get it on a pole because it'll throw out runners to find shade, add regular water to your nutrient solution when it runs too acidic as most tap water is a 7 or even more basic, retest pH as needed. Also, when you get it on the pole, make sure the aerial roots are right up against the pole so it "senses" it. I think I've shown you, but I have literally started to use scotch tape on my monsteras because sometimes they need the extra help to "sense" the wood planks I use.

For what it's worth I would like to see it on a plank. It would be interesting to see how large those leaves could grow in your care, Kevin. Thanks again for sharing this!☺

I truly enjoy all of your content. You're definitely in my top 3 favorite plant KZbin'ers, and these are my favorite types of your videos! Fern is right up there too, lol. The updates, total care, changes you've made, even the seasons you are working in at the time. All this is everything you could ask for in a care video. And your excitement matches mine which is awesome to see! I feel like we're doing this together, lol. My obliqua is coming in the mail and you've taken all the fear out and left only the excitement 😁 Thanks so much Kevin and keep up the awesome work! It's truly appreciated. Happy planting 🌺

I LOVE your videos! I personally think obliqua’s run because they aren’t attached to a moss pole or some other form of support. I’ve had one about as long as you have. I secured it to a stick immediately after I potted it and it’s put out FIVE leaves, each bigger than the previous, and it hasn’t run (yet). I keep it on my orchid shelves with all my other aeroids (directly under full spectrum LEDs) and it’s doing amazing!

@@kevin. now that the leading growth point is a runner, you’ll have to chop it to activate a lower growth point. I wonder tho if you could get a moss pole in there and wrap the runner around it to see if it will root and produce another plant 🤔

Thank you so mutch for this video! I have an obliqua peru and did not do the research 😅🙈 and it was shooting out these vines and no leaves! Couldn't find the problem and people on forums said more light/water 😂 so safe to say that didnt work at all! Now i decided to dig a little harder and found your video! I now put it in a place with lower light and hope it will safe the plant! Also don't cut the vine before they have good roots because it will do nothing when you try to propagate! :(

Kevin, I literally feel the same way with my Agleonema Pictum Tricolor. I haven't done anything special humidity wise, and its been pushing out a leaf for me consistently every month since getting it. I had to say goodbye to the original 2 due to shipping stress and winter, but I have 6 leaves with a 7th on the way, and the only recent damage was due to me having it on a shelf under a glass mason jar that had some cuttings in it and the sun MAGNIFIED using it and faded a perfect eclipse into one leaf, so I had to trim that part of the leaf with scissors... but long story short, I agree- experiment, experiment, experiment!

What a great video! I remember a few years ago when the obliqua was kind of the "god plant" amongst the plant community, and we were all too scared to get one in case it didn't do well! Your experience is a reminder that plants often do better than we think! Also, I've read that plants put out runners or seek shade until they realize they're climbing - it's a way for climbing plants to find a tree (in the shade) and then once they attach, they tend to exhibit the opposite behavior and start seeking the sun, which helps them climb towards the top of the canopy. I would love to know how it fares if you gave it a pole to climb!
@femmebitale

yep! you're exactly right. monsteras exhibit negative phototropism until it finds something to climb, then it seeks the light.

most monsteras actually seek lower light because that usually means there is a tree to climb. I think this is correct, because mick mittermier said so, but idk

If you read the label on hydroguard, and compare the bacterial colony counts to other products, you quickly realize that you're basically buying just water. Check out "Tribus Original", it's got the highest bacteria concentration that I could find. Worth every penny.
@LarsLarsen77

And when I say just water, I mean it. One milliliter of tribus has as much bacteria as a thousand gallons of hydroguard.

How would you trouble shoot the yellowing of the leaves, I'm dealing with 2 of my plants looking like getting chlorosis, and don't know whether to up fertilizer ratio, or cut it in half vs check ph all the time, vs mess with lighting. Do you troubleshoot one thing at a time or just throw a kitchen sink at it with all possible solutions at once and wait for a few leaves to see if it worked?

I believe you have a monstera adansonii. Your leaves may be yellow from too much water or fertilizer. Also, that is a climbing vine that you are calling the runner of a Obliqua. You can propagate the vine if you cut between the nodes (that one is rather small). There has to be a node for the new roots to grow from.
