If motogp has transitioned from a niche sport to mainstream broadcasted worldwide it's mostly thanks to him, it would have taken at least 20 more years, if ever, without him, to get the sport where it is now. If most motogp riders are millionaires nowadays it's mostly thanks to him, he has done to motogp what Jonah Lomu has done to rugby, a feat only an handful of athletes across the eras have been able to achieve. Such an iconic status . Look at average attendances when Mick Doohan was crushing the competition...

I remember Troy Bayliss saying in a documentary, when Rossi announced to leave Honda for Yamaha, that: "If he (Rossi) wins with the Yamaha, he would be one step closer to god." Rossi won it four times. He is the last 500cc World Champion and I wonder how many of the so called "Aliens" would have survived a 500gp season. But that's only my 5cent.

Phenominal. Whether you're one of the many that love the guy, or one of the few that don't... What this man has achieved is outstanding and will never be accomplished by anyone else. Realistically, he deserved the title last year too, and to still be at the absolute top of the sport at 37 years of age is an extraordinary achievement and should be respected and celebrated. The sport will be a far worse place without him. The greatest of all time, Valentino Rossi.

NO ONE is EVER going to match this guy for style, charisma, passion, and enthusiasm. He has redefined world motorcycle championship racing. He has influenced, in fact has caused, the current generation of younger riders who wish to beat him, or be like him. He has given us new standards of what it means, to be a world champion. For me the biggest reason he is the GOAT is the manner of how he wins races. It is always a battle, overtake, a show. You see this with Marc Marquez, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Marco Simoncelli. They just always wear you down or overtake you in ways you think you're eyes fooled you or no one has done an overtake there. miracle Pole positions and almost bizarre, insane skill in the WET/cold tyres/pitting. Always a battle

Anyone over 30 years old knows that Rossi is and always will be the greatest and a legend. He's the guy where it doesn't matter if someone has better stats and/or more wins than him he will still be the greatest of all time for everyone who lived in the generation that he raced back in his prime. Just like how Michael Jordan is the best basketball player of all time, it doesn't matter if someone comes in with better stats Michael will always be the goat because he defined basketball for the generation who watched him. That's exactly what Rossi did. He defined MotoGP for the generation who watched him. Back in the day you couldn't think about MotoGP without thinking of The Doctor. Most people still can't including myself. Everyone knew who Rossi was. EVERYONE. I bet you $1000 if I walked up to my mother and asked her "hey do you know who Marc Marquez is?" She would say "no, who's that?" But then if I asked her "do you know who Valentino Rossi is?" She would think for like 2 seconds and remember "oh yeah that one bike racing guy!". I don't care what numbers someone has, how many wins another guy has, Valentino Rossi, The Doctor, #46, will always... ALWAYS be, the greatest of all time and will always be the face of MotoGP. Marc Can't live up to him, Larenzo cant live up to him, nobody can live up to him. He'll always be the Michael Jordan, the Babe Ruth, the Michael Phelps, the Tiger Woods, the Christino Ronaldo, the Ken Miles, of MotoGP. Period.
