There are those of us who believe in the "afterlife," a state of being in which the consciousness and personality not only survive the death of the animal body but travel to other vistas for new journeys. The ancient Greeks, largely under Pythagoras (who was influenced by the Egyptians) and Plato's tutelage or influence, taught that we are astral beings learning new cosmic lessons in our present physical incarnation. In other words, don't be surprised if Jimena has already heard this song...even though she died first.

This song makes me think of two times in my life, one as a child, and one as an adult. They are dreaming of each other and what might be, and what once was. Sort of like looking in a mirror and seeing yourself older in one reflection and younger in the other. The child is looking at all the possibilities life holds, new experiences, and a long fulfilling life. The adult is looking at the child knowing it is full of pain, fear, and a dread of a long lonely life.

It is not, if you’ll try to hear. But even if it is. There always is a sense in art and things are not added to music just for... extending it? Such repeats are often used for you to feel lyric hero better. My mother said I was always afraid of the dark, but I’m not, I don’t mind having a ghost in my bed. This phrase means much if authors have given it such a big part. Here, this repeat gives you an opportunity not to “loose” this beautiful music earlier, than you want. Cause it’s so good, and if you did like the vibe, you’ll not want it to stop. Also such repeats are often added to make you long for the most emotional part (have you ever listened to post-rock?), but that’s not the case.

I am crazy in love with this music. I didn't even hear them until the Netflix show, 'Sweet Tooth'. Even then, I just kind of wondered who they were. Then, jump a few years and I heard, 'Dirty Paws', again while nursing my girlfriend from a shocking/devastating break up with her man, that gave her a stroke, I thought she would enjoy, 'Sweet Tooth', it was easy to watch. I looked up who did that song and listened to them .... Of Monsters and Men is the just about the only music I play, (loudly), here at my house! I'm of Norwegian decent and they help me feel connected to that somehow, lol. I turned my Finnish friend on to this great band and she loudly plays this music now at her house too! Even my hard rock, biker type guy friends are really into them, after hearing them at my place, like every time they'd come over, and now can sing all their songs. My daughter turned me on to this band a few years back. After a short period of dismissal - I'm 62 years old and am a blues-jazz-sometime-rock drummer; this band have kept changing and doing what they want. I am entirely a fan now. Nanna and "Raggy" and the rest of OMAM are superior songwriters and musicians. Some fans will always wish for the familiar sounds they are used to hearing. I think that they (OMAM) have been true to themselves and for that they will have a fan. Indie...pop...any label people want to put on them doesn't matter to them. Just like my past musical projects, we were true to our art, no matter how it manifested itself. This is one of my faves from these kids. I am a loyal fan.

Lyrics : Let's not make this Complicated I know you Last night I had the Strangest dream That you knew me, too But you need to wake up I can't have you disappear Just like my parents house I've become, a visitor In the night you say That you go underwater You won't take me, no You won't drown with your lover You told me that I wasn't available I guess I wasn't, I wasn't capable I want to do better this time But I guess you're better in the back of my mind Oh you need to wake up I can't have you disappear Just like my parents house I've become, a visitor My mother said I was always afraid of the dark But I'm not, I don't mind Having a ghost in my bed My mother said I was always afraid of the dark But I'm not, I don't mind Having a ghost in my bed My mother said I was always afraid of the dark But I'm not, I don't mind Having a ghost in my bed My mother said I was always afraid of the dark But I'm not, I don't mind Having a ghost in my bed My mother said I was always afraid of the dark But I'm not, I don't mind Having a ghost in my bed My mother said I was always afraid of the dark But I'm not, I don't mind Having a ghost in my bed

While the sound of the first two albums is what made me fall in love with them, I can appreciate that they wanted to adapt their sound and evolve as a band. I'll miss their old sound a lot but I look forward to what they're going to do in the future

I suspect they'll come back in time to their older sound. They haven't really moved that far from it anyway. Just a few tracks trying a new direction.
