lyrics: Wild roses on a bed of leaves in the month of May I think I wrote my own pain Oh, don't you? Down by the creek, I couldn't sleep so I followed a feeling Sounds like the vines, they are breathing (Oh it sounds like, it sounds like, it sounds like, it sounds, oh) And I've seen the way the seasons change when I just give it time But I feel out of my mind all the time In the night I'm wild eyed, and you got me now Oh roses, they don't mean a thing you don't understand But why don't we full on pretend? Oh, won't you? Before I closed my eyes I saw a moth in the sky And I wish I could fly that high Oh, don't you? A serpent on a bed of leaves in the month of May What do you want me to say? (Oh it sounds like, it sounds like, it sounds like, it sounds, oh) You keep me still when all I feel is an endless direction When I think I'm losing connection I see you In the night I'm wild eyed, and you got me now Dim the lights, we're wild eyed, and you got me now Oh roses, they don't mean a thing you don't understand But why don't we full on pretend? Oh, won't you? Before I closed my eyes I saw a moth in the sky And I wish I could fly that high Oh, don't you? Oh, don't you? Oh, don't you? *One of my favourite songs off of the Album.* It makes me feel a small kind of hope for personal freedom. I feel so trapped in my own life sometimes, I always find myself looking up into the sky and wishing I could just find my own place, away from the system, away from the endless crowds that I never fit in with. To just live in a small home of my own making by an isolated beach with someone I love and finally find peace. I get a serene feeling when listening to this, hopefully one day I can find the peace I’m searching for in my life and be free of the fakeness, the drama, the chaos, the loneliness, the numbness, the feeling of not belonging anywhere and wondering why I’m even trying to maintain a life I’m not happy with. At the end of the day, our own freedom and personal happiness is what’s most important. No matter what kind of life you end up living or who with or where you are. Money, status, materialism, it’s all worthless and meaningless in the face of just finding peace and feeling happy. This song’s beautiful and grants introspection, thank you Of Monsters and Men.

Well damn if that didn't just hit the nail right on the head for me. Relate to every word. I don't want anything fancy or glorified, just contentedness with someone I love in a place that I know is not at the mercy of someone else's decision. Somewhat ironic, since it's such a solitary, introspective feeling, and yet you say that and people respond and agree with you... Always makes me wonder why it's never more of those people near me instead of the usual crowd. I choose to believe that we'll get there one day though, and look back on these comments years from now proud.

One thing that makes this video so great is that her hair is not dry, Hollywoodish, stylishly blowing in the wind! Its wet at the start, like she came from the water, like she's of the water. She's so natural and that makes her so much more appealing. And her clothes, or lack of clothes, so sexy, but so tastefully done. I really think this song, and a major theme of the album, is that there isn't some cohesive underlying metaphor or story and that should be okay. They still feel inspiration, frustration, and triumph even when those things won't take definable forms. Lots of lines may allude to this, given the right interpretation. It's like she's just saying things that sound symbolic as examples: "a serpent on a bed of leaves in the month of May-- what do you want me to say?", "Before I closed my eyes I saw a moth in the sky, and I wish I could fly that high. Oh don't you?", "All I feel is an endless direction, and I think I'm losing connection". I think it's a reassurance that other people go through that too. The real inspiration isn't in the metaphors themselves, they're just the language that gets in the way but also makes communicating the inspiration possible. Once you go to abstract, people still yearn for a bridge of context to get there too, even when there isn't a convenient one. "Where is my head right now? Uhhh I saw a moth a while ago, and it would be cool to fly like that? What do you want?" Edit: Things like "oh roses, they don't mean a thing; you don't understand" also call to mind a line from a Motion City Soundtrack song: "You're extrapolating nonsense and it really hurts."

This song really captured me from the very beginning. Every time it gives me the same indefinite and powerful feeling as it was the first time that I listen to it.

So I had a dream involving this song last night... I was walking through this massive older plaza/shopping mall area, some big city somewhere, I didn't recognize the place...there was a sort of college-age marching band/choir in red and white costumes, practicing, that came up on my right side in formation, no more than a couple feet away, and they started singing this song, and I joined in with them. And when the chorus hit, the formation broke into dancing...if you could imagine for a second some 200 college kids (and me, a man who the years have taken far from his college days) dancing around a parking lot and singing this song in perfect harmony...it was a most beautiful dream.

I don’t think I wrote my own pain. Who would willing sign up for 20 years of sheer brokenness uncomfortableness rejection always being lead down the wrong road intentionally no one. So the place we’re in now makes perfect sense when I break down how an undeserving person got here. But it is what it is.

I slightly agree, i think they lost what made them fantastic. This song is okay but nowhere near as good as the old album. I dont know just seems lacking. I do hope that other songs include more vocals by Ragnar as their combo was fantastic.

Support them guys. Artists need to evolve over time and to do so they need to experiment with music. I Know we all are attached to their old style but this isn't bad, it's good too. Try to understand, it takes a lot of hard work to make music.
