@zeno4538 I think it could be argued it's for the general 90s but the city was safer than it is today, crime was on the drop, and optimism across the city was going up. New phones and devices were coming out left and right but didn't disrupt human interaction yet. Cars were cool, the overall atmoshphere seemed more nieve and cheery. Everything changed mostly after 9/11 and just descended

@@snusemcgoose1001 the growth of the internet and smart phones really changed everything, in some ways good some ways bad. I took like a month of all media, except radio when driving. It felt good for a bit, even nostalgic, but i work and study a lot so my life was getting a little too boring. Don't have much time for social stuff. Had to pic up all the media again, it fills in the gaps well, i get inspiration and motivation from it too. So there is some benefit. Also learned a shit tonne from it, youtube included.

I don't care what other people say about this movie, I love this Godzilla so so much. He was my introduction to Godzilla, I'm a nineties baby so I grew up with him. I was 8yrs old then and even at 33 going on 34 I still cry everytime he is slain. For me, I see him as a Dragon without wings. His features almost mimic one. I mean his hands, his feet, scales...they all say Dragon to me. Yes he started life as a marine iguana but after the transformation...he is no longer one. Him and Legendary Godzilla r the best lookn Godzillas.

It is a great movie, but people don't realize it was meant to be a trilogy. The creature we see in this movie is actually Godzilla's mother and the mutational changes were to continue with Godzilla himself in the second one. The nearly indestructible Big G we're more accustomed to. Since the sequels weren't made, the plans were adapted into the animated series. It's highly worth watching if you haven't seen it!

Especially what he said about it that it's a true Kaiju film and definitely has the dark moody depressing vibe in spirit of the original 54 all disguised as a light hearted sci Fi summer blockbuster... He basically saw it for what it really was and it is a monster underappreciated masterpiece. And before he said anything the Godzilla dorks back then who panned it finally came around admitting " Zilla" is a pretty fuckin cool design with a lot of potential and considering all the reinterpretations we've had so far he's definitely the most interesting but was awfully utilized thus came the birth of the Godzilla: the series a short lived literally american anime adaption on Fox kids that was truly Godzilla in every sense of the word which also director of minus 1 loves.

I watched the heck out of this tape! But then I got the first episodes of Godzilla:The Series and watched it more. Than I saw Godzilla 2000, and was confused by why it didn’t seem to have anything to do with the 98 movie. And then I caught Godzilla Vs Gigan and Mechagodzilla in a double bill, and finally worked out that Godzilla had been in a lot of other movies. I think a lot of new fans came about because of the Emmerich movie, even if we all agree it’s not the best incarnation of Goji ever.

In this movie Godzilla is a animal looking for a safe place to lay his eggs. Then tries to protect them. The military does just as much damage to the city. Godzilla views the humans attacking him and his babies as a threat just as much as the humans see him as a threat. Its not a monster movie. Godzilla only goes after the humans after they destroy his babies. And the only humans he did go after are the ones he thought did destroy them. The rest of the time he was just trying to defend himself and protect his eggs. The people see how dangerous he is and what threat he is posing, what damage he is unintentionally doing. I feel for both sides. It brought a realizm to the Godzilla movies.

so many people focused on the design issue that they missed all the brilliant filmmaking moments. Name another Godzilla movie that has an entire practical street move and all the cars move as it walks? The entrance with the old man was made so brilliantly. Yeh a lot of shots haven't held up but iv always appreciated moments like mentioned above,

I like the more realism of this Godzilla and Godzilla 2014 than the new movies. I know it’s a giant lizard which can never exist, but this movie, and Godzilla 2014 shows Godzilla from a human perspective which makes it feel real. The new movies have gone to the silly action realm.

I admit but this is arguably my favorite part of the movie. The perspective with the characters forced to look up on the ground level and watch this monster move. That plus the music and sounds make it great and I wished more modern Godzilla films took advantage of shots from the human view on the ground. I also just felt so sorry for the old man in this scene. He was so helpless and just wanted to fish, then out comes this gigantic beast that likely killed him as he desperately tries and runs for he's life. I think its he's age that causes the feeling as he is pushing his body to the limit and yet it isn't enough to save him.
