For anyone visiting Afan: DON'T TRUST THE MAP OF THE SKYLINE TRAIL!!! The maps are outdated and say its 19km with 316m of elevation. The actual trail has been modified but the maps haven't been updated, its actually 46.5km with 2000m of elevation. We blindly followed the signs expecting a 19.4km ride, and after we were still heading away from where we started after that distance, we googled a bit and found out the truth. We had to head back over the gravel roads and wasted so much elevation because we couldn't find a proper shortcut.

From what I remember before the trail centre opened, the steep fire road climb up to Bryn betws Lodge was referred to as 'the Wall'. Used to race xc there back in the 90s. My local trail centre as well

#AFANTRAILCREW 🏴⛏️💯🔥🤘 there's much better trails in afan than the official ones, most of them are off piste and built by the locals like us yewww 🤘 plus can't believe you missed out on the duel slalom and the 4x track just up from the skills park 🙈

YWall and access to the enduro trails is STILL shut due to taking longer to deal with larch disease and everyone is really annoyed. Better off starting at Glencorryg up the road and ride Blade& Whytes for now

There is an alternative route to ride Y Wal. You can still ride 95% of the trail at the moment. The NRW signage is pants so pop into the Afan Valley Bike Shed and they will point you in the right direction.

Hey, I don't know if you have contact to whoever makes the maps, but it would be great to update the maps to reflect the new layout of the skyline trail. From all the maps and GPS files we found we had expected a 19.4km ride, and only after following the signs for about that distance and realizing that we were still heading away from where we came from we googled and realized that the new layout is more than twice as long. We had to head back over the gravel roads and killed all the elevation we had gained during that first part of the trail, which was a bit frustrating.

Just head into the Bike Shop that was just in view of Rob's wee van. They'll show the way to get round Y Wal or advise on other trails located behind the shop, Penhydd and Blue Scar. There's other trails further up the valley too such as Whites Level, Blade and Rob mentioned the epic, Skyline (which as a mid fiftees bloke, I've ridden twice this year on an acoustic Giant Trance and took me and my son around 5 hours to cover the 50kms from the Trail Centre, although in winter I'd recommend riding an ebike and certainly with other riders.

you can use a mix of peroxide, vinegar and soap to clean up "biological" smells. My cat went through a pee on everything phase, and this was critical. For gas or other non water soluble stuff, you can use some other oil like olive oil + baking soda which can mix with the unwanted oil. Then use lots of soap and water to lift the loose oil.
