Do you know the story behind different editions of the score saying either "Andante moderato" or "Allegro moderato" for the 1st movement? (They both say a tempo of 112.) Is one known to be a typographical error? Or did the composer change his mind at some point?

I have a strong gut feeling that after the composer Vilmos Montag sent the score to his brother Lajos, he let him do whatever he wants with the score. Lajos changed tons of dynamics in double bass part, usually increasing it for 1-2 grades. In my personal opinion it wasn't really an improvement. Tempo mark could have similar story in the background. For my gut feeling, this movement feels like "Andante". Vilmos Montag emigrated with his wife and daughter to Sweden after SSSR army invaded Hungary in 1956 and Lajos stayed in the country. I always wanted to contact composer's daughter and ask her if she knows anything about the piece, but I didn't manage to organize it while she lived in Germany

@@bozoparadzikcom Thank you so much for the reply. That explanation makes sense. It feels more like Andante to me, too, but most performances and pretty much all the commercial recordings seem to have used the score marked Allegro. The dynamic marking changes could also explain why some parts sometime feel a bit loud (or that it stays too loud for too long, in a way that's kind of overbearing). I was looking at the finished CDs for an upcoming release and noticed it said "Andante" and thought I'd made a mistake! I knew I'd referred to at least the first page of a score to confirm the tempo marking, and when I looked again I discovered the two variants.

@@ModusVivendiMedia Nice 🤗 I'm never listening how other people are playing, I try to feel what composer wanted without being influenced by any other musicians. I'm trying to develop my own feelings and my own ideas of every piece I play, listening other people can bother a lot for that
