Kevin Leahy has reached his finish line and received his Montane Arctic Spine Race medal.
We challenge you to think of a harder-earned medal than the one he has around his neck now. Kev has blazed a trail along the Kungsleden, setting a standard for anyone intrepid enough to take on this race in the future.
Kev was the last person standing and has been alone on the trail since Ed Sellon finished the Arctic Challenger course in Kvikkjokk more than 2 days ago.
Since then every kilometre he covered has been a record, and every hour that he remained out there has been a miraculous achievement.
As the person who managed to comfortably cover the furthest distance, Kev is our winner this year. All future editions of the Arctic Spine Race will be a search for somebody able to build on and surpass his incredible performance.
Typically humble for Kev, he described the extreme challenge he's overcome as 'good craic'. At the finish line, he talked about the good moments, the scenery and the tranquillity, not the tough times which of course there must have been out there. Though we took his skis for him, he insisted on dragging his pulk over the finish line and to our cabin behind the finish line.
Massive congratulations to Kev from the entire Spine Race Team, and the #SpineFamily at large who have been following his lonely dot on that tracking system for over a week.
1 pizza has already been consumed and the next is being served. The beers are open and Kev is with our team talking through his time on the Kungsleden.
Whatever beverage you might have to hand right now, we hope you'll join us in raising it to Kevin Leahy.
