Walking tour in Monteleone Sabino (Latium, Italy).
This medieval town has ancient origins, dating back to Sabin times, before the advent of the Romans, when it was called Trebula Mutuesca. There are various legends surrounding the origin of the name Monteleone (literally Lion-mountain), one claims it is because of the numerous Roman statues of lions that were found scattered around town, another because the shape of the mountain where the town rests looks like the one of a lion; most probably it is because the family of Brancaleone dominated the town in the XIV century.
From the end of summer to autumn, the town organizes various festivals, among them local food tasting fairs, where you can enjoy the famous fettuccine alla trebulana or it’s typical sweet ciambelletto all’anice.
