This was one of the first pieces that turned me onto the music of the late 60s - while it was all happening around us . . . The excitement of a Brave New World was palpable. We all felt the 'revolution' just around the corner. I still sense all that excitement today (in my early 50s) when I crank this track up! Thanks for the post conkyjoe!

This man had one of the best voices to come out of the 60s. What a talent was/is Eric Burdon. And he could sing more than just the blues. How many can do that!? A legend.

In the 1960s, Eric Burdon was known for singing lyrics that conveyed societal issues. I grew up in the 60s and his music empowered me to move forward and not give up in life…At a time when I was powerless, vulnerable, had no money and no real advise from a positive fatherly-figure…Eric through his wonderful music showed me that I can be anything and do anything I wanted…Today I am successful in life…Thanks Eric, mom and a special school teacher who believed in me…

Love this so much! I was only 5 or 6 when my parents took my family to Monterey pop so my older brothers could see Ravi. My Mother & I spent the day wandering the grounds people watching( she knew enough to point out Michelle Phillips & we saw Micky in his headdress). The air was scented with jasmine, patchouli & nag champa. Lovely! It wasn't until recently that I realized the great Eric Burdon was there (floored me!) & discovered this song. Can't think how it took me this long to come across it!! The words capture the festival perfectly. I've never forgotten the magical feeling of that amazing day.

Thanks KZbin, I now understand this, a song I've heard about a billion times since it came out. What a fantastic homage to all of the great bands at Monterrey Pop Festival. It's truly a sonic snapshot of the 60s and a salute to great rock music. Also, its incredibly complex musically - not in the droning, driving bass, but in the "performer imitations" of Hendrix, Who, etc. I can't imagine how difficult this would be to pull off live. The bass and the vocals keep the tension up - GREAT song!

"His Majesty Prince Jones" was Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones. I used to have a 45 of this song but I could never understand this line: "the Grateful Dead blew everybody's mind". I saw a concert at Tanglewood with The Who, Jefferson Airplane and BB King. Before it started I was wanderering around and came upon The Who who were in a little shack they were using for a dressing room, and got to talk to them a bit. Security was a lot looser back then and The Who were very young, kids really. The concert was very good too, very professional.
