Me too. The first time I saw him I didn't even know he was on the bill. I was close to front row smoking a big doobie and the cops were coming to get me. Eric looked at me and made a gesture to make a move and I made one. Slammed that doob right down on the ground and squashed it. The cops stopped and the concert ever even blinked. The show was great. He must have been at the hip show the day before because he started singing locked in the trunk of a car. I was buzzin on shrooms too. Lit like a light bulb. Probably why they took notice of me. Eric too for that matter. Ahhhh those was the daze.

Each generation has to make their own music. Think of the parents of teenagers at the time. Their music was Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams and of course Frank Sinatra. Just old shit. However, Frank Sinatra has an enduring quality that's not found in the others. He could be considered the first rock star, even before Elvis.

I got something different after seeing this video. Growing up with parents who went through WWII, who had PTSD, I couldn't be a kid and I wasn't treated like one. The war broke some people, everyone wasn't the greatest generation, it wasn't until later that the grief was over. I played adult because I didn't want burden my parents - I knew they had suffered - and this was a very common thing on the other side of the tracks, when the cure for PTSD was alcohol. When I got older, I had a chance to be younger. Remember that England civilian population endured terrible times (as did the German civilians) a story forgotten by the film makers. And if your parents took the war hard, life was probably hard, and rooms were cold, and England was broke, yes, they won, but....and you lived and learned on the street. Those pilots in the video were young and they had to be old - that's another parallel theme. Britain was saved by those young men. And living during the 50's - in the shadows of World War III, if you were working class, you were probably going into the service, and you were probably going to die - and that was duty so you thought to get in as much life as soon as possible. Again, speculations, but it's great music, tone, execution, authenticity - I've added to the view counts since finding this.

I am old now. This song echoes the feelings my parents had after returning home from WW2. My father was an American pilot in England. My mother, an English maiden, struggled at home counting planes landing at night after raids, wondering who had been lost this time. There was no messing around. Life was tough. People were proud of their nation and identity. They were willing to fight. Very different. Very purposeful. Looking around today they would be bitterly disappointed.

Kudos to The Animals for honoring their own parents in not just this video but even more so in their song, "Sky Pilot".....one of the most under rated songs of all time.

Because the anti-war anti-soldier trash by CCC out-marketed it and the songs Eric wrote and sang were HIS experiences and a more true history of those dark days. The War was about total domination. If NAZI Germany had developed nuclear weapons before England and the US, it would be a very, very dark world indeed.

This is my favorite Animals song , because it reminds me of when I was young . The lyrics are perfect for when I was 13 and 14 . I ran wild . Pain was more painful and laughter was much louder . It's a special time.

@@Music-lx1tfRespect. That was hell on earth for everyone involved, ARVN, US, Kiwis and Australians and of course the VC. I am currently making a video with this song, and footage from the Vietnam war after digging through hundreds of hours of digitalized footage from the national archive. I love this song, and I am glad I am able to share that in common with someone many years older than me. My hat is off for you, old timer 😉

There aren't really the right words to justify how remarkably brilliantly talented these guys are. Such amazing music and lyrics. Eric's voice and seemingly casual nature of belting out in his distinctive amazing voice is stuff of legend. The music world eternally will play their music and let it be played loud.

@Eric Burdon Cheers! I was born in '54 and as time keeps on passing, the music and lifestyle of the 60s and 70s goes further back in time yet seems more and more appealing. My parents were children during the war and it is only in more recent years has it really hit me how awful WW2 was, and how terribly people suffered in concentration camps, occupied countries, from deaths in action, etc.... After those years along came a new generation which had people like yourself hitting a new groove, so to speak! All the best to you from the island of Gozo where I now live as an ex-pat.
