Wow... this is one of the most ON POINT and HONEST reviews of a national selection, and I am saying this as a Montenegrin. What is important to say, it is really hard to be a musician in Montenegro, as it doesn't pay bills at all. This is why young people do not venture into it, so there is no 'fresh blood' and musicians capable of creating contemporary music. What is left are 'musical dinosaurs' and this can be heard in every musical arrangement of every song that comes from the Montenegrin market. I had EXACTLY the same reaction as you did. Song after song, the same repetition, unoriginal, very early to mid 90s. And my top two were exactly Kejt and Verica Culjkovic. Just for me the order of the top 2 is reversed. 'Čuješ li' is a BEAUTIFUL song that completely surprised me. Kejt put me off a bit with the unnecessary English part. I would be proud to have Verica's song represent Montenegro, as realistically it's the best song out of the ones offered. Unfortunately, it will not win. Montenegro is notorious for set-up competitions and you need connections to do anything there. Verica is also completely unknown in general public, I heard of her first time with this song, so audience will not vote for her. People will vote for names that are familiar and not for the song, which is very unfortunate. Great review of all the songs! Amazingly on point!

The Kejt song stood out the most when I listened to the short compilations. But, when I listened in full, some parts were a bit high-pitched. I hope it can be improved.

As from a foreign observer, ESC received a rather interesting review. Usually the minus of any ESC reviewer, they just try not to offend, so it's boring to watch, and find the local reviewers for me (I 🇺🇦) very stuffy and I like the balance between negative and positive. Regarding the selection, to be honest, the impressions are quite positive. Again, with all the limitations, this is already a leap for Montenegro (I study the music markets of all ESC member countries, and Montenegro does not have such a market). I liked 5 songs in total and only 3 of them really have much potential to qualify, namely Baryak, Kejt and Isak. Isak has the best chance because it's pure televote material, especially with well perfomance, and as far as I know he has the finances to do it, so... And so I'm for Baryak. When was the last time there was good Balkan rock at the competition? But I even forgot if there was such a thing, but with a good performance it can lead to the top 15 of Montenegro

might be, than it means that Eurovision has very low credit in music industry also in general... so depends on the perspective.

Agree with review. But not with winning song.

I don't usually listen to these selections but I listened to the one you had as number 1, for me nothing special - I would give it 6/10 max, and you were annoyed by the English in the song, I think the song would have had more potential only in English 😀

see, not all the rules must be rules if done like this... and ofc thats subjective

I dont agree with putting Baryak - Dva Srca in the group of no potential for Eurovision. I think this sound is becoming more popular in the rock scene right now with bands like Sleep Token. Neonoen, Glumci Bend 9 do sound dated. The only problem for me with Dva Srca is that verses sound a bit boring. Dont know what it will sound like live. I think a lot of the songs you put higher in your list are decent songs but definitely have low televote appeal.

it sounds a bit like Deftones, but not even close and this is 30 years ago... nothing for me. Might be for anyone else :)

@@JanBors Listen to bands like Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Spiritbox, , Architects. Each of them have a couple of million listeners each month on Spotify. Major gain in streams last 3 years. This sound is becoming more popular again.

This is why I'm sceptical about national selection in my country Slovenia: I'm afraid of hearing a parade of mediocre or eager-to-please OK-ish songs. And even if there is a great song, the public prefers something bad. I support strategic approach and internal selection. Yeah, you can argue that it's good to have a promotion of artists. But who needs a promotion of boring artists, like the ones in Montesong? It's just the waste of time. I do hope I'll be proven wrong.

but this should be a task of television, ro commision proper stuff. Artists in general receive less opportunities in TV, its to make a bridge. Internal is kinda strategical, but also its a lazy decision. Its resigned decision, despite the fact, you can have better control of outcome (which is lazy basically)
@borutpetrovic72032 ай бұрын
Having a national selection with underwhelming songs sounding similar is also super lazy!
