Montessori Ten & Teen Boards

I enjoy using Montessori materials with my children to teach them basic concepts. The Montessori Ten and Teen Boards are a great learning tool and teach numbers past 10 in a solid manipulative based learning style. Although I am not a Montessori expert or educator, I'll demonstrate how we use the ten and teen boards in our house to understand quantity before the number.

Hello!! The single beads are the most effective as you also show them exchanging the units for the ten bar when you move down to 20. The beads should be on the left as it makes it very hard to slide the numbers in the slots. Quantity always comes first then the symbol.

you can make the beads with string and any other beads at a craft store. Thanks for sharing!

Another thing, could you teach them how to count by 10s using the gold string of beads? Even if you have to reuse pieces they could still see it as adding another ten bead string is adding 10 more numbers to that number. You know what I mean?

Oh that's a great idea! The montessori beads are used in a lot of counting activities, I'm sure that is one of them!
