Greetings and thanks for another thoughtful great review. I recently picked up this beautiful pen. Acrylic green is gorgeous. Stub 1.1 nib, wrote right out of the box without any adjustment. Very wet, no dry out issues. Using Noodler's Heart of Darkness ink. An underrated, under appreciated pen gem.

A suggestion for the problem raised at 5:43 - it helps against stripping the threads if you first turn the "screw" anti-clockwise until you hear a click and only then start turning clockwise.

That's a good suggestion, thank you

I have to say, Stephen, I am really enjoying the new review format you've chosen here. It works out really well and it allows us to see the pen in more detail whilst following a logical structure. Kudos to you.

Claran, I agree. I've always enjoyed Stephen's reviews but with the new format he doesn't have to repeat as much for clarity.

Beautiful looking pen ! I don't own a Monteverde myself, but they've definitely caught my eye more than once.

Stephen. Another fine review. The pen is a bit of a chunk'ster for me, but an absolutely beautiful color. You're spot on with that ink (gotta get me some Schaeffer green!). Personally I like a green that stands like your writing sample. For a second I was mistakenly thinking a medium nib would solve the dryness issue, until I read another post and see that may not be the solution.

Like you said at 5:54, I also prefer when the threads are of the same material (i.e plastic on plastic). This is one thing I think lamy does very well because on all of their models it's either metal on metal threads or plastic on plastic. The alstar and studio both have plastic inerts with plastic threads and plastic threads on the section and the aion has metal on metal threads. In my opinion, it increases the durability of the pen and feels as if more thought has been put into the longevity of the pen; it's the small details that counts. Anyway, as always it was a great video and a pleasure to watch, thank you!

Watched this ages ago. Finally found one on sale a few months ago. Had a it a day and ordered two more. Both fine and medium nib are nice. Good all around pen. Been working well with Noodler’s El Lawrence.

Funny thing is, this pen isn't on the Goulet website anymore. It was on closeout. Hopefully it gets brought back. I like mine in the brown version a lot.

Welp, after watching your review I tried to order a Monteverde Giant from Goulet Pens... but sadly, I was told by their customer service department that they have stopped selling that pen due to lack of interest... :-( guess I'll have to buy it from some other retailer, which is a shame, because I really like Goulet Pens. Almost as much as I like Gourmet Pens... but, that's another problem all together! :-)

I was thinking of putting some Noodlers sequoia green ink it with a medium or stub nib.

Mine was scratchy and dry, since it was one of my first pens I didn't really know how to tune it properly so I ended up buying the new omniflex jowo nib for this unit and since it's been smoother and wetter and even has a lil line variation.

Thank you sir. This pen has been on my radar ever since I saw the first pics. Unfortunately, no supplier in Holland yet. If you get the chance, try out Monteverde's 1.1, the Yafa stubs are great, not sure where they come from but they feel as good as Jowo. With regards to the size, it fits our German motto: länger ist lecker aber dicker ist schicker :-)

The nibs seem to be hit or miss on this pen. David at Figboot, Larry at Larry's Fountain Pens, and I all had problems with ink flow and needed to do some nib work in order to get good flow. Since I fixed my Sequoia (also green in a medium), it writes well.

“I’m a lumberjack and I’m ok” 😂 Any MP fans out there? I think the pen size and width are very nice. Said that, I don’t care for the section design that I find it to be lazy. Nice observation about the metallic/acrylic threads interaction as well. I cut down trees...😄

Would ANYBODY here pay 1100€ for this or any other pen, including Mr. Brown? I enjoy watching these reviews because I know this is as close as I will ever get to these beautiful but ludicrously extravagant pens.

Kind of damned with faint praise. Combine that with the fact that now - less than 2 months later - the pen is no longer sold by Goulet (which provided it to SBREB), tells me that this is a middling pen. Somewhat overpriced for what it is. A $3 Jinhao 159 with a $15 Jowo/Bock #6 nib would equal this pen in size and writing.
